I bought what was left of a 1959 Jaguar which had been heavily coated with red house paint. All that’s left of it is the rear rack. I’d like to try to salvage the rack but I’m afraid that anything I’d use to remove the paint would destroy the plastic housings for the reflectors.
How do you...
I recently bought a 1959 Tornado 'Twin Straight Bar' bare frame. I had enough spare parts to put together a complete bike, or so I thought. It's all painted and ready to assemble, or so I thought. Tires went on the wheels, seat on the seat stem, seat stem into the seat tube, crank, etc. I...
Is the title of a Danish Infantry bicycle unit dispatched to the front lines to help holdback the Nazi invasion until reinforcements arrive. Base on actual events. Subtitled but easy to follow.
I recently ran a wanted ad in the classifies for some pedal frames for 4” pedal blocks. I got a reply from a CABE member saying he had some. I sent him $25 for the pedals and shippin. They arrived today. 4” to the end of the threads, not for 4” pedal blocks.
The main reason for me posting...
I finally found a Dayton Huffman frame and built this tribute bike. I’m still waiting for a bracket to mount the tire pump to the seat post, some pedal innards for the wood pedal blocks I have, and a tool bag. I’ve also attached a photo of an original 1942 built for the military.
I have the 4” wood pedal blocks but need some rebuildable pedal frames. 1/2” threads. Finish is not important as long as they’re rebuildable.
Thanks, Ed
I just picked up this bare Dayton Huffman frame and need some help dating It. Attached are pictures of the serial number on the bottom packet and the head badge (which is my only clue as to the manufacturer.) I’ve removed the head badge for paint prep. Thanks, Ed
I’m looking for a mount for a military bike tire pump. The mount attaches to the seat post and holds a tire pump parallel to the seat post. Here’s a picture of a pump and a bracket. I have the pump, I just need the bracket.
A number of years ago I built a military tribute bike based on an older Elgin frame. I then decided that I wanted an original Elgin so I put all of the OD parts on a Monark frame. I finally found a correct looking Dayton frame and will pant it OD and move the OD parts to this newer frame...
I found a bike frame with fork and chain guard that a guy in Madison has for sale but won’t ship because it’s “too much of a hassle for him.”
I’m looking for someone who’d be willing to pick it up and either pack it or take it to a bike shop and have them pack it and ship it to me in Shawnee...
Has anyone tried/thought about spraying chrome nail polish with an airbrush to try for a chrome finish? On a lady’s nails it looks like the real thing.
Who or what is the easiest way to ship a bare bones, stripped frame. Can a frame be shipped just by putting a shipping label on it and not packaging it? I've shipped car bumpers like that.
Thanks,
Ed
I know that this has previously had much discussion. I’ve expressed my own results but I’ve now found sone documented proof that I’ve been doing the right thing all along - saving a ton of moolah $$$$ and getting the best results.
Question: how many of you will try this and how many will...
I found this one a month ago. Same year and model as a couple of others but with no tank and incorrect seat. So I now need a reflector and lens for the tank which I had, a correct seat, and a taillight. Any help out there? I now havevthree bike all the same year, same model. One boys with a...
WTB front fender brace for a JC Higgins Flightliner ( Sears Spaceliner may be the same) that has this unique bolt hole - I’ll take the washer inserts as well. I’m not sure if it’s unique to the springer fork or whether all Flightliners had this brace.
if necessary, I’ll take the complete...
I picked this 1961 Flightliner earlier this week. Needs some TLC and some parts.
It’s compatible with a couple of others I have. Three consecutive model numbers
I paid $10 for a Schwinn middleweight the other day to pull some parts and try to resurrect them. Lots of thick paint covers every inch of the bike but I’m trying to preserve A few things. (Amazing how really thick paint keeps things from rusting.) on of the things I want to preserve is a front...
A message on FB says that the Military Museum in Vincennes Indiana is looking for a WWII Japanese bicycle for one of their displays. Anyone here have any leads on one?
It seems that the fork for my ‘55 Hornet has disappeared. I have a couple of forks from Schwinn middleweights in which the fenders seem to fit fine. Is it going to be obvious that the fork is not correct?
Well I did it. I started unlacing the front wheel of my ‘40 Elgin before studying it well. What I’ve come up with using the remaining rusted in spokes is a 4 cross using 10-19/32” spokes - all over. After I realized my faux pas, I studied the rear wheel. Same spoke length and 4 cross. Before...
Can anyone give me information as to where I can find stencils for this style of Schwinn tank? It’s for a 1958 Starlet. I’ve checked all of the sources that I’ve used previously. TIA
Ed
Does anyone know who sells/makes a stencil for the tank for a 1958 Schwinn Starlet? Nothing on eBay at this time.
Here's a picture of the style tank that I have. Thanks, Ed
As I look at the bikes that have pictures posted then look at the Schwinn catalog scan of the same bike, I see bikes in the catalog with white sidewall tires but pictures of the same model for a given year with black wall tires. Or vice versa. The catalog shows black wall tires and the pictured...
I bought a Franken Schwinn the other day and it came with fenders that were painted like this. I don't know if they are Schwinn fenders or off something totally different, like the wheels were (in the picture are some odd S7 wheels I had) If these If these fenders are something odd, I'll paint...
I haven't been able to find any OEM taillights (battery boxes and lenses) for a couple of 1961 JC Higgins Flightliners that I have. Does anyone know of anyone who is reproducing them?
Thanks,
Ed
I've been using CRC Brakleen to get rid of old built up grease in bearings, etc. CRC is having problems getting a solvent they use in their Brakleen so it's backordered until ?????? What are you using for degreasing and cleaning old dirty, grimy, hardened grease from bearings, races, etc...
I got a bunch of stuff from a guy whose father passed away. One of the items was all the innards for an Elgin rear hub - except the shell. I've compared the innards to pictures of Musselman rear hubs so I'm pretty sure that's what I have. I posted Elgin in the title because that's what's...
I need a front fender brace for a JC Higgins Flightliner (Spaceliner) that has the springer fork. The brace I need connects with one rivet to the fender and to the swing arm on the fork, not the front axle. It has a big "banjo" type hole in the front for connecting to the swing arm. PM me if...
This bike is for sale locally and I'm trying to identify it. The seller says it's an Elgin and I have no doubt, but I cannot find anything like it in my Hurd and Gordon "Collectable ...." book. Can someone tell me what they think? I think it has the wrong chainguard and a wrong wheel on the...
Know that the middleweight models come and go and necessarily built the same year to year but does anyone have an opinion as to what might be considered the model that produced in more numbers than any other? I ask because I seem to see a lot of threads on Typhoons.
A friend of mine in the Riviera Owners Assn. cleaned out his late father’s shop and found a bunch of old bicycle parts. I paid the shipping and he gave them to me. In the batch of parts were some parts that I’ll Never have a need for. If you want them and will pay for shipping (3 lbs), they’re...
A friend of mine through the Riviera Owners Assn. is going through some of his late father's affairs. His dad was a bike collector and had this part in his garage. It's brand new red S seat. It's now listed on eBay. Hopefully this is not against any CABE rules. He offered it to me but I...
I got this bike as part of a foursome. I painted it, got Crawford's to make the graphics, and found a good set of tire. I had a box of parts. I would hand the part, the hardware, and tools to my grandson (senior sneak day so he spent it with Papa) and he assembled it. He even shortened the...
I bought a Schwinn middleweight boy’s frame and fork at a swap meet a couple of weeks ago. I brought those items home as well as trading a blue chain guard for the correct color green one. I was selling a bunch of other stuff and found everything else I needed to complete the bike in my own...
A couple of years ago I bought two Murray Westport bikes thinking that I would make a quadracycle out of them. I robbed parts from one, and got rid of what was left of it. I now have this one and I'd like to sell it but can't figure out the year. The bike rides on 26x2.125 tires. The serial...
