    Truss Frames 1900-1920's

I'm fairly sure that Red Wing only made truss frame bicycles. I think that they just flipped the frame over to make a girls bike.

Preferred modern wheel for 28" bikes?

There is another option that I learned here on the Cabe. I believe that Bikewhorder first posted it. You can groove old metal clad wood wheels to take 700c tires. Then faux wood grain them. I've picked them up at swaps very reasonably, the metal cladding adds enough strength to the side walls...

What bikes did you add to your collection in 2023?

Just this old Colson, I couldn't resist.

What bike did you ride today?

A balmy upper 40s in southern New York yesterday. Took a ride out back, the stream was pretty swollen from the recent rains. A little challenging getting these 52 volts across.

    Sunday's Show and Tell ...12/3/23

Picked up this little table for next to nothing. Moving sale, said that she got it from an Italian restaurant in N.Y.C. & they had used it for a TV stand on their deck. Looks homemade, repurposed, asian influenced? A lot of work in any event, thought it was interesting. Probably going to add a...

    Sunday's Show and Tell ... 10/22/23

I have to admit that I haven't been feeling the love lately. Kind of burnt out on the hobby. That all changed at Copake. Nothing like an old Colson to get me back into it big time. Many thanks to a good Caber for selling it to me & another good Caber for passing on it. The great news is that I...

Been working at this cool old estate not too far from home. Truck broke down, so I had to ride to work a couple of times. Took the scenic route.

    ArtDeco eBike Build

Beautiful job all around & a lot of attention to detail. I can see some of the influences that you mentioned. @Miq brought up a good point about the cranks. I've been debating that on one of my builds, into these retro E bikes myself. I hate to admit it, but I'm with Shawn, @Freqman1 on the seat...

    Help Identify Please

I don't claim to be an expert, but believe those are metal clad wheels, coffin chain ring. Guessing 1930's or close to it. That handlebar stem looks pretty unique. One picture can tell a pretty good story.

How I Modernized a Delta Torpedo and What's Wrong with Most New Bike Lights

Beautiful, functional, great job, all around. What you said at the beginning about the causes of the mishaps with these batteries makes a lot of sense. I think that they have to me treated, somewhat like a loaded gun, with mucho respect.

    Stonework Saturday

A nice Saturday afternoon ride across town, thru the bush, back & then some. This is the Hamilton estate chapel. When Alexander Hamilton's grandson married J.P. Morgan's daughter , they called it the merger of the two major banks. They built their mansion, stables, gate house & chapel just south...

    Stonework Saturday

I don't know when this building was constructed, but it sits right behind an outcropping of this pink granite. Evidently all the stone was quarried pretty much on site. Probably about as old as my Colson.

    Penetrating oils.

A lot of great info. on this thread. This is by far the most difficult thing that I ever had to take apart. The handlebar stem rusted into the front fork. Unable to heat it up properly because of the frame. Months of soaking in PB & ATF/ Acetone. Used a couple of sacrificial bolts, washers, & a...

    Stonework Saturday

Another throwback, old limestone mine Ulster county, N.Y. This area is loaded with them from when they made cement out of cooked limestone, before Portland cement. Removed the bottom of the mountain & left a couple of support pillars.

    Stonework Saturday

A throwback from a previous ride. I always liked this carriage house. Part of an old estate in the northern New Jersey highlands, with a lot of interesting & diverse stonework. Local quartzite mix w/ some cool features.
