I picked up a 1955 Jaguar frameset a few years back and i had forgotten that i had stuffed it into the attic. The wheels that it came with were not the original 3 speed but just single and it didnt have any fenders. I think it used to be red or maroon but the sun faded it so bad it appears...

I have a flightliner i am rebuilding and the headset cups are trash. I need to replace them. They measure 34mm and i cant seem to find any headset that will work. Is there a go to headset for 1 inch forks that have 34mm cups? I know wald mades an oversized headset but it is only 32mm or so...

Anyone know what the seatpost size is on these? My caliper gets 20.8 if i measure mine. Do they make 21mm seatposts or 20.5? Ive got a frameset with a stuck post and i am likely doing to need a replacment once i get this one out.

I must have something wrong. It wont tighten the the nut keeps turning. That likely tells me the wedge is stripped perhaps. The bolt threads look fine and i dont think the entire wedge is spinning. It cant be. I am going to pull it apart and look at the threads of both parts with a magnifying glass.

Is this the correct wedge for this stem? It seems to bottom out on this strange lip and not tighten properly. No sign of stripped threads on the bolt. I am wondering if this wedge is wrong for this stem and or the wedge itself is stripped. I got it second hand in the parts bin at a local bike...

Which order do they bolt up? DO the truss rods go on the front axle first or do the fender stays? I have seen pictures of bikes online that have it both ways. I would think the truss rods would go first and then the fender stays over that....and then the axle nuts. Perhaps not. Perhaps it doesnt...

i tried 1/4-20 and it was way too big. I also tried standard and fine m5 and they were way to small.....slide right in. For the heck of it i tried an m6 and it went in and tightened up nicely. I guess i will run that. It probably doesnt matter much. I am almost certain they were not metric back...

Thanks. I am probably going to go that route. Seems cheap enough. I have completely derusted my old chain and it looks great. I soaked it for about a day in white vinegar and water. There are a few links that are frozen solid. I cant get them to budge much at all and i have been working at it...

This might be a bit of a dumb question. What size chain fits a old 1950s balloon tire schwinn. It isnt skip tooth in this case. II have the old chain and it measures ~10.18mm at the pins and 8 or so mm at the skinny inside plates. I may or may not need a replacment. The orginal chain is...

Heck...i found a guy that sells old hose by the foot........for a bit less then $3 a foot. That should work fine.

Update: I got the stem out. I had a buddy who worked with a guy that did it. I had cut the head off the stem and gave the fork to him for removal. It was quick for him. He had a vice and a hammer. He didnt even need the torch. The wedge is out and the stem.... Then he was able to get the broken...

yeah.....the wedge. The bolt for the stem is long gone. The previous owner must have snapped that trying to loosen it would be my guess. I did run a punch down inside the stem hole but didnt have one long enough to bottom out at the bottom of the fork. The fork has no outlet hold on the bottom...

Thats exactly what i did. I used a dremel and ground away at it carefully. Fender came off and i didnt even nick it with the grinding wheel. Piece of cake. It was harder to get the extension cord out and plug in the dremel. I need to get myself a cordless one some day. So much handier. I am...

hmm......i do have a buddy with a welder......but im not sure he is up to this. I will ask him. It all depends on if i can get that pesky stem out. Thats the next order of business. Here is a picture of this thing as i picked it up.

hmm.....and it looks like im done. I was removing the rear fender/wheel and stripping the frameset to prep to get the fork out. 2 cracks somehow on the same side.. one above the brake bridge and one down by the dropout. It appears to be rust related. I am not sure how this is even possible...

i really really like the firehose seat cloth idea. How did you attach it to the rusty pan? i have a simular condition bike and need to do somthing simular here and this looks fantastic. Did you skin the hose and sew a couple of pieces lengthwise to get it wide enough?

Ah those tires look great. Thats probably what i will go with provided i can get this stem out. Thank you for the link. I have had that style of chain tread tire before and they are nice. I believe that is what i have on my Monarch Rocket.

I should also mention the stem is rusted in extremely bad. I have been spraying pb and kryoil on it all day. I am going to let it sit for a few days. I have tapped it with a hammer etc. I am hoping it will finally break free with enough time.

i took a meaurement on it and it appears to be 16mm? So i have a 16mm solid seat post that is too short. 1. where do i source one of these that is longer? 2. what seatpost clamp fits this thing? I have never heard of one so small.

Ive got a rather short seat post for my amf road master balloon tire bike. IT is solid. Where can a source a longer one. THe odd thing is i think it is smaller than 20mm. Ive never seen one quite so skinny. I think what im going to try and do is build it up and then sort of if ill need a laid...

the drive side cup is out and out came the crank. How do i tell if it is bent? Laying it flat on a bit of wood that is just a bit wider seems to show that it is straight. I have never run across a bike you have to remove a cup to get the crank out. Odd. IM out of ideas. Ill put it back together...
