It looks like it might be a Raleigh-built for Xmart. It's got a Shimano hub.I know that much for sure.Sure wish could make out that headbadge. It might be a Murray.
I was saddened today by the news of the passing of Sheldon Brown. The cycling community has lost a scholar and a gentleman. He will be missed by many.He touched alot of lives with his devotion to the bicycle.
May the wind always be on your back now Sheldon.Ride Cap't Ride!
Are you sure on the year?Looks more like a late 60s early 70s.Check the date code on the hub.The reason I ask is it doesn't look too much different than this 1971 Sports.
You could pay as much as $250-$300 for a bike that clean in some markets.
No,I don't think they built a specific military model. The ones seen buzzing around England during the 2nd World War were donated by CCM but they were just regular production models painted flat O.D. Green.
I was told by an old British gentleman that he used to see alot of the twin bar or motorbike style CCMs around England during the war.Similiar to this 1941 CCM Rambler.....
There's a bunch of different opinions on how the pedals should be synced(is that a word?).I believe that they should be set so the stoker and the captain are pedalling on the same side.I find it's good to know that the rear pedal is up(same as the front) when going around a corner.Less chance of...
The odds are pretty good that your bike is NOT made out of aluminum. The easiest way to tell is to use a magnet.Magnets don't stick to aluminum. The rust on the springs of the seat will be hard to re-do.You're better off finding another spring seat.Same goes for the handlebars. If you're thinking...
The Auto Mini was built in Austria(by Puch,I believe)for various dep't stores. Some of them came equipped w/SturmeyArcher 3speed wheel. They're a pretty well made bike IMHO.Here's a pic of my Executive Auto Mini(sold through Simpson Sears)........
You can tell what year it was made by the serial number.A picture goes a long way in helping also.:)

Don't give up,you're almost there. We've all had to deal with stuck seat post and handlebar stems. The trick is perserverance and using the right lube.I use a special concoction that was shown to me by a little Italian mechanic:) .It's Dextron II transmission fluid mixed 50/50 with Varsol and it...
It would help to identify your bike if you had taken the pic from the "curb side".Then we could see what the chainguard looks like. It's the details of the bike(especially the chainguard on some models)that can help identify it:).
Hey CCM Doug, glad to see there are other CCM collectors out there. That I'm not the only one.
Are you sure on that tire size?Like 37fleetwood said, that's the Schwinn size. The ones on some of mine are 26x1 3/8 tires(EA3).The rest are 28 x 1 3/8.You should get some pics up here so we can see your...
I picked this stand up at a garage sale. It's made by Minoura and works pretty well. The only limiting factor is the way it clamps to the down tube.If the bike has extra thick tubing(like a mtn. bike) or it has a curve in it you can't clamp it in.The BB of the bike is held in a rubber cradle.It's...
I went out for a 20 mile ride yesterday.Just a light cruise around the dirt roads out my way.Well I came across a small yard sale that a farmer was having. Not much there(lots of pumpkins) but then I spotted this tricycle sitting under the table. He was asking $10 for it(I talked him down to...
I ride one almost everyday.I don't have anything newer than mid 70s(that I ride) and try and get each one out at least a couple of times a summer(I have close to 30 that I can ride going back to the 20s).I figure that's the best way to keep them all running properly. The worst thing you can do...
Welcome. You've come to the right site.Quite a knowledgable bunch. Can you change the size of picture your digi camera takes?I found it was easier to change the size there. You can try ImageShack. You can resize your pics there.
That's very interesting. It's the same frame minus the pivot.Raleigh sold bikes under different brand names(RobinHood,Glider,BSA,Triumph,Dunelt,SuperCycle). The folding version rides pretty well as good as a regular bike,so I guess they decided to try it as a non-folder.Cheaper to build and still...
He's got a lot to be proud of, nice looking ride.I must say it's refreshing to see a young lad into the old stuff. It must have been interesting with those blade forks. They off a tandem?
I have seen lots of pics of some really cool bikes. How about pics of the enthusiasts responsible for their continued existence. If it wasn't for us they would be in landfill or remade into ashtrays or something equally uninspiring. I'll start.....
Nice bike. You got a really good deal on that one. Too bad about the chrome on the front fender. Sweet ride anyway. I think that this bike might actually fall into the balloon tire/heavyweight category. What size are the tires?
If I was you I'd chrome the pieces seperately and then put them back together. If you had to ,for whatever reason, remove, replace or move the cross brace you'd have those spots unchromed. Originally they were chromed seperately and then put together.
Amazing find. Cool trike. I found this on the net....
" 1872 to 1941
Founder: Pierre Gendron
Specialty: In 1872, Pierre Gendron made the first "Pioneer" vehicle in a small workshop in his home near Toledo, Ohio. The company was originally organized with the purpose of manufacturing wire...
I imagine the first thing would be getting some sort of appraisal from a recognized antique/bike dealer. You have to be able to prove the bikes are worth that kind of $. I remember when I was into antique cars there was certain appraisers that were not reputable. You spend the money and then the...
Cool bike. It looks good. It's too bad Stelbers have that BB set up. I don't know if you know this but Stelber worked with George Barris and came out with a line of bikes badged Iverson. Really cool muscle bikes.
I've had this bike for a while now but didn't give it much thought. I was wondering if anybody had any info on Road King. As far as I can gather it was Eaton's dep't store brand. The main thing that originally caught my interest was the chainguard. It has made in Hungary painted on it and the...
I came across this while searching for bike info and had to share it. I didn't catch the builders name but I know it has a Shimano hub in the rear and a Dyno-hub in the front. It is a beautiful looking bike. I really liked how he incorporated the chainstays with the extension all the way to the...
Ride something that no one would want to steal. You see I like to ride classic bikes. I have between 10-15 bikes that I ride that aren't any newer than 35 years old. But the nuisance at always worrying if someone was going to steal or wreck your prized possession bothered me. So I started an...
I don't know if this will help. It may apply just to Peugeot badged bikes.
"Peugeots are typically marked with a serial number on the underside of the bottom bracket. Bikes built in the 1960's have the numbers stamped directly in the BB shell, and often have Nervex trademark and bottom bracket...
There are definately similarities between the two. I'd say it's a safe bet that it is a French bike from the late 40s or early 50s. As for the value. That's pretty lucrative. I'd say it could range from $150 to ?. It might be worth more in France. It's really hard to say. I am waiting for a...
It would appear to be a bike built by Peugeot. Or at least from a french bike builder. What is the name on the derailleur? Can't make it out in the pic. Does the side of the rim(where brakes meet the rim) have knurling? What size are the tires? Your bike has a lot of the same styling ideas as...
It's definately an obscure make. Royal Knight? It looks like another Raleigh sub-brand. Not that there's anything "sub" about the quality of the bike. I'd have kept it whole. I like the more obscure brands. Not that they are neccesarily more valuable but interesting. The Sturmey Archer hub...
