For me, the best thing about this is that the bikes went to someone who cares about them and appreciates them.
I'm getting to the age & point that I'm going to have to start getting rid of my collection.
I fear that many of them may go to college students who are just looking for a knockabout...
Agree with WillWork4Parts above.
Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to cold set the rear triangle from 120mm to 110mm.
You would need to do the string check though as I've read that one side moves easier than the other and you want to keep everything properly aligned.
Any decent bike shop should...
I'm with Freqman & Vincev.
If I have to ask the price of something, it usually means that I can't afford it, so I walk on by, unless it's something that I really, really want.
You have my dream bike!
Back in high school I had a '67 T100C and a good friend had a '67 Bonneville. We used to ride together.
I wished that I had the 650cc TR6C version instead of the 500cc.
Years later I realized the I probably couldn't handle one of these off road, so no point having the...
I think a brand new saddle on the bike will look out of place and stick out like a sore thumb.
To my eye the saddle you have on there looks just right.
That was a lot of labor to pay for. The bill must have been substantial.
I covet your new SS spokes.
Personally, I would leave the Brooks on the bike, unless the shop owner wants it back.
The only white lithium grease that I've used is Lubriplate in the black & silver tube.
My experience with it is that it dries up and becomes ineffective fairly quickly.
I know that it's been around for ages and had a good reputation back in the day.
Are there better & longer lasting lithium...
Back to the ad again; I had been under the impression that the LE suffix meant that it had clincher rims & tires rather than tubular.
The ad seems to contradict that. Perhaps it varies with the year.
I own both but both are in storage so don't have easy access to them right now.
Best I can do is from my pic files.
Here is a '62 in Radiant Gold and a '63 in Terra Cotta.
I think the best description for Terra Cotta is "tomato soup"
I particularly love that Varsity!
Great job on the photography, I haven't been able to get the hang of it yet.
Shooting in the sun I generally get so much reflection that it obscures a lot of detail, and even in the sun I can't seem to capture the "glow" of the candy colors.
Your photos are...
I don't think I could get along with that saddle angle.
On all my Brooks I have to have the nose up a bit so I don't feel like they're trying to dump me off the front. These are drop bar bikes though, so I'm leaned further over.
I had a Sky Blue '65 Varsity tourist(bought brand new) and it looked just like the bike in the catalog photo.
The saddle was black.
This is my re-creation of that bike. I lost track of my original one many decades ago.
This one is not quite correct because of the white wall tires and the wider...
Here is a bike that Schwinn actually called Radiant Gold. It's a '62 Superior.
This is not my bike, but I do have one. The paint on this bike is better than mine.
Although it looks like Coppertone in the pic, if you stand it next to a Coppertone bike you can see that it's a different color.
I'd like to recommend Gus's work.
He made me some sets of custom decals that were exactly what I wanted. The artwork is spot on.
I haven't applied them yet, but I'm sure if I follow his detailed instructions they will go on without a problem.
Thanks again @Gus
Something to watch for with the seat tube panel decals is the company name.
Almost all the re-pops that I see say Schwinn Bicycle Co.
As your photo shows, you want one that says Arnold-Schwinn & Co.
I'd take a close look at that stem.
It looks too high, and one that likes to crack around the wedge.
I suggest pulling, inspecting then reinserting making sure a safe amount is inserted into the steerer.
Does anyone know what font Schwinn used for the Varsity decals in the mid-sixties to early seventies?
About the closest that I can find is Liberation Serif in bold, but it's not quite the same.
Here are some actual Varsity decals
And here is what I generated on my computer with Liberation...
I guess that I have a bit different focus than member @Real1.
I've never been a racer, so I was never looking for a real racing bike. My focus has been on a "sport touring" bike with as good a ride as possible at a price that was affordable to me.
My only Raleigh is a '62 Blue Streak, so once...
Of course there were better & lighter bikes being made at the same time, but when you make comparisons like these you should do so at a similar price points.
How much did those high zoot Euro bikes cost?
I have several of the Greenville bikes from '87 & '88. LeTour, Prelude, Tempo, Super Sport, & Circuit.
I don't know how they stack up against the European(or Japanese) bikes, but there's certainly nothing wrong with them that I can tell.
This '87 Circuit is one of my favorites.
Circa 1972-73 several of my friends bought the Gitane Tour de France model.
They were the "affordable" Reynolds 531 framed bike at that time.
It was a real eye opener for me comparing my '65 Varsity to those bikes.
I own the '62 model in the front of this pic showing a '62 & '63 in Terra Cotta. This is the seller's pic.
It currently hangs in my garage as a frame set.
Only if it's a good fit for you.
You'll get a good bit of money stuck into repairing & refinishing.
I don't think that makes sense unless it fits you well.
That's one of my favorite paint & decal schemes.
Saw a pic of a Paramount that was done up with this scheme(but had the chromed head lugs) years ago. Wish I had saved the pic.
