Nice looking arch bar with some great original tires and grips plus documentation. https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/bik/d/vallejo-1916-mead-ranger-superbe-arch/7723024955.html.
This is a local estate sale but there are so many catagories of collectable I thought the CABE community might enjoy the cruise through the hundreds of photographs. From Star Wars to the Civil War, Southwest souvenirs to a 1950s Scintillating radiation detector. Matchbox, Hotwheels, toy trains...
My office mate of 30 years and boss for about 20 contacted me a couple months ago saying he needed to find a home for his Burning Man bike from the 90s. He rescued the bike about 1992 from becoming scrap metal at the dump in San Francisco. It was in amazing original condition. He's 6'3' so he...
My old bottle digging partner from High School has been on a road trip with his wife. Today he sent me a photo of a nice Shelby Supreme for sale in an antique store in Paso Robles California. Unfortunatly he only sent the one photo. Next time I'm down that way at teh In-Laws I might have to stop...
Hi all,
I need one of the knurled nuts that sits on top of the threaded cone and locks it in place under the truss rod ears. Demension is 1" inside and 24tpi. In a pinch I can use a thin hex nut like the second photo.
Thanks,
Gary
I know many have been using the Rubena bead less tires on G&J clincher rims. Are there any tips or tricks to ease the process of getting them seated in the rim?
Thanks for any and all advice.
I thought this deserved it's own post for discussion purposes. Anybody know of any surviving examples of this child seat? Any surviving relative of this child? 😄 The child probably would have been just 7 or 8 in the 1906 earthquake.
After a couple years sitting on this frame I'm finally starting to do something with it. The truss rod ends were pretty badly damaged when found. Slowly massaging them into roundness again but the inside threads are pretty bad. I'm wondering if anyone knows what thread count was used by...
An excerpt from the article.
After a long struggle with the park commission, San Francisco bicycle clubs won greater access to Golden Gate Park's excellent roads in the early 1890s. Every weekend, packs of cyclists rode through the park to Ocean Beach, where a section of the Great Highway had...
This came up on Facebook as part of a collection in a local museum in Port Huron. Poster said it originally was used by the local police department. They were looking for any information on it. I grabbed the photos but then facebook did a hiccup and now I can't find the original post to copy the...
This Mead Ranger has a really cool airless rear tire. Located in Covington Washington. It's posted on Facebook Vintage Bikes for sale. The poster says it came out of a barn loft.
Across the street from our house in a sidewalk that may date as far back as 1900 there is this bit of tire tread fossil. I wonder who the kid was and what era. There are sidewalk steps in this neighborhood dated as far back as 1898. Zillow says the house was built in 1906 but could easily be...
Chanced on this great old bike safety film from 1939. Hopefully not already posted here. There are some really great bikes, just too bad it's black and white. Don't ride like Willy and blow the Christmas savings on hospital bills. No fine bikes were actually injured in the filming of this motion...
Now this looks like a nice womans rider for cruising around town. Might need to get rid of those heavy baskets and put a nice wicker basket on the front. For $50 a steal compared to some modern big box rider costing $500. Like to find a boys in this good a shape for $50. ;)...
Add says this was a project of his 93 year old dad. Looks pretty well preserved as he must have been working on bikes at that age. WE should all be so lucky! Very nice brooks saddle and tool bag. Much better deal than the repainted 60s girls Schwinn 3 speed a local bike shop wants $600 for.🙄...
When we started working from home in March 2020 I began taking early morning bike rides since I was no longer doing my commute most days but I still woke up by 6. I met a group of cyclists who live on Bay Farm Island and meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Bay Farm Bike Bridge. They...
Someone in Portland is selling a collection of 1953 mini license plates that apparently came in Wheeties. Lots of 1953 American state plates listed too and reasonably priced.

Thanks to Jesse for sharing a link to this fine website and some nice stories about bikes. This one seemed like it would be popular on this thread. https://www.dahlquistcycleworks.com/story-of-america-in-two-bicycle.html.
Attaching a couple photos for archival purposes. Great bikes!
I've been leaving for morning rides in the dark lately and wanted to be able to light the carbide light without the heat and mess. I found these 1.2 inch 'puck' lights on amazon, 5 for $12 bucks. Cut a piece of double sided peel and stick velcro tape, stuck one piece on the back of the light and...
Thought this might come in handy for someone with a reflector that has lost its threaded post. Pete, (tocatahula) had this nice reflector for sale a while back and kindly let me be the next caretaker. I sent a photo to my neighbor who is also a bike (and old bike) person and also happens to love...
Has anyone posted this already? Wonderful story.

This looks much earlier than the date they're giving, maybe a 56? There seems to be a license number stamped on the seat tube that the seller might be thinking is the serial number. Great looking ride and that cool Bendix 2 speed...
There are a number of sidewalk bikes on Bay Area Craigslist today, and this one is free and looks like a candidate for an OA bath.

Hello Caber Family,
I need a lucky 7 seat post for my 20s Westfield Motobike Frame, 15/16s diameter head tube. Condition can be 3-7, no nickel left, no problem. This frame has less than 1% of its original paint.
In trade I'm offering this Glass Pope Paperweight. I'm located on the west coast...
Someone posted this photo on a UK Vintage Bike facebook group. Really interesting history and way of introducing pilots to the concept of formation flying. I love that there is a group of re-enactors complete with fake mustaches and pilot nicknames carrying on the tradition. Where do we sign...
Chanced upon this short film from 1915 of a mass bike ride at the Panama Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. The Prelinger Archives is a great source for old film footage and fortunately all the originals were donated to the Library of Congress. A friend of mine has donated a fair...
Hi
Just had to share this nice find an old high school friend who lives up in Washington got for twenty bucks at a garage sale. It must have been stored inside it's whole life. I have yet to stumble on a garage sale find like this, someday. ;)
Looks like this could clean up well. Cool wartime LA bike license.

This bike is in really nice condition and for the Bay Area seems a decent price for this condition. What I can't tell is the size of the rims from the photos. Assuming its 26" but might be 24"?

Grand reopening of the Marin Bike Museum, and they're having a swap. Email that they sent out said all booths sold out quickly. Giovanni already posted in another thread but it deserves it's own thread just in case.:)

Overpainted bare Schwinn ladies frame for $125 on FeeBay. A real project...just like a few I've taken on and have waiting in the wings. ;)

Can anyone tell me when and on what bikes Schwinn used the Westwood style S-5 rims with a Bendix coaster brake hub? Were these used on some lightweights like New Worlds? Travelers?
Thanks!
