The biggest difference in a Typhoon VS a Deluxe Typhoon was the DeLuxe lettering on the chain guard, standard front rack, and longer front fender. Up until 66 they had painted to match fenders and just had the pin stripes the entire length of the fender. It didn't have a white tip on the end...
Apparently the builders stamped their signature in the bottom of the bottom bracket when they left the factory. This is a pie with a slice missing or a cheese wheel or a pac man. Kinda cool!
I'm ashamed to say I only got this out maybe once last year. Those that know what this bike and frame are, know. 1974 Sports Tourer with factory original parts.
Also yeah I know the seat is high and looks goofy....but I'm 6' and sometimes I ride this and don't feel like putting the seat down just for a photo. I have a long seat post in it from a sting ray.
As a Schwinn enthusiast I am saddened by the news of the ending of an era. As someone who has seen a Waterford bike and have met Richard Schwinn; no big loss.
I thought about that sitting there today....I'm betting if it were more it wouldn't bring as many vendors bc they could think they could skip one for the other etc.
Also there is a similar swap in Royal Oak MI in September.
2nd annual swap at Monroe and it was just as great as last year. I really like these grounds for a swap show. IMO good turnout. There were some sprinkles throughout the early morning but those gave way, the grounds dried up, the sun came out and it ended up being a great day. I submitted...
The best thing they did when they were in AA was eliminate the mini bikes riding around and generally being a nuisance. Hopefully re adding them won't be an issue. As far as the flea market goes; it's beginning to sound like a large garage sale with a bike shoe swap attached. Guess we'll see...
At some point someone ran it through a huge glob of tar that I only found once I inverted the bike for storage last year. It isn't really visible when it's being ridden or stood on the kickstand. Today is a snowy cold day, perfect for some detailing. It was on the underside of both fenders...
I've got the road lighter on my 1961 Jaguar. Needs a lens although it's hard to tell.
This thread makes me miss mine being outside. It's in my basement so it's not far away but it being out in the sun is where it belongs.
Thanks for the pics of your bikes, Tim.
Keep in mind if you want to make it a 10 speed again the front derailleur on a ST is a bigger diameter where it clamps on the seat tube than any other electro forged bike.
I have been kicking around the idea for a dedicated camping/campground bike for a while. I've taken my 74 Sprint in years past for long rides outside of camp but it isn't that practical for the actual campgrounds. (Getting firewood, ice, using the bathroom building, etc). This year I took...
Been crushing on my 58 Spitfire lately that I got in 2012 as a Christmas present since I haven't been riding my Dad's Typhoon as much.
When I got it I replaced the bent bars, added repop chubby grips, a new headbadge, a softer but still somewhat accurate saddle, correct pedals, added the rear...
It could be too tight, a broken bearing, a pitted bearing, a pitted hub, needs greased/overhauled (cleaned out and greased) has too much old grease, dirt got in, etc. The list goes on. They aren't that bad to work on; I find them fun. Tedious and make a mess to clean out but satisfying to say...
A small update on this thread, but unfortunately I forgot to snap some photos...
I don't ride this much but it does get out from time to time. I was on a 10 miler and it developed a clunk from the bottom bracket. I immediately thought the adjustment cone was out of spec but the crank didn't...
