I started this restoration a while back for @New Mexico Brant but never started a build journal. I have been taking pictures all along so over this next week or so I'll be posting as I can to get it up to the current stage.
Alright tricycle experts, what did I buy?
The frame and fork are made from half-round solid steel. The saddle could be either very hard leather or maybe some type of fiberboard. I haven't cleaned anything or inspected it closely yet. Just got it an hour ago and took these pictures. Looks like...
I have been working on tooling up to reproduce the Shelby No-Nose tanks since earlier this year and I'm happy to report that production has started!
I took the first tank from the molds and used it to build this Shelby for the RatRodBikes build-off competition.
The build-off work has ended...
Looking for a boy's Mercury Pacemaker frame in any condition. Mainly looking for a frame but will consider anything from bare frame to semi-complete.
Thanks, -Jim
I just finished this custom Shelby this week for the annual RatRodBikes build off.
No original tin was harmed in the making of this bike. 🙂
You can see more pics HERE.
Does anyone know who the designer was for Shelby during the late 1930's and early 40's?
I've found a good amount of info about some of the famous industrial designers like Harley Earl, Alexis de Sakhnoffsky and others, but haven't been able to tie any of them specifically to Shelby. The Airflow...
A little over a month ago I jumped in the RatRodBikes build off with this X53. It was a nice distraction from my other 'real work' when I could squeeze it in. The bike had been abandoned for decades and needed to be put back in service!
Here's how it looked the day I bought it.
All of the...
I've been restoring this 'his and hers' pair of Shelby Airflows for Mike Ford (@mfhemi1969) and decided it was a good time to post the progress here.
This is how they looked on the day that I got them in the shop.
I'll post pics as I can get to them over the next few evenings until I'm up...
I have a fiberglass Airflow tank that I bought a while back for a project but have since changed directions.
I have no history on the tank and it has no internal parts, just the tank and inserts.
The tank is listed on facebook as a raffle.
Chances on the raffle are only $18 each and if you...
Any Shelby owners or experts out there? Working on a slightly warped chain guard and need to know if the face is flat or curved in any way!
Thanks in advance!
This is a collaboration project between myself and Brant Mackley (@New Mexico Brant ). Brant pieced together all of the parts necessary to build a 1938 Hiawatha Arrow and passed off all of the painted parts to me to do what I call a 'regrestoration' on them.
All of the pieces will be media...
TRM Mullet Fenders!
Patterned after the very desirable Elgin Bluebird fenders, the fiberglass TRM Mullet Fenders can be used on Bluebird or Skylark bicycles or custom builds.
As seen on our TRM 'BLACKBIRD' custom Skylark.
1935 Silver King $1275 delivered to your door (CONUS).
Mostly complete bike, just missing the battery tube. I have just finished completely tearing this bike down, cleaning, polishing and rebuilding it from top to bottom.
There are no signs of any cracks in the frame whatsoever.
The stainless...
Looking for three double butted steel spokes 9 7/16 (240mm) long. Surface rust is ok.
Rebuilding a 24" wheel set. I would prefer to use the original spokes but two were broken. Just need two but three would give me a spare. Thanks!
I realize that anything other than a concours restoration would be considered sacrilege with a rare bike such as a Skylark, but I thought some of you might like seeing what else can be done with one!
Can anyone with an Elgin Skylark measure the hole pattern on the rear drop outs as marked on this photo?
An accurate measurement from center to center would be greatly appreciated! -Jim
Edit: I have the measurements now. Thanks
Got this yesterday. Looks like someone did some fork swapping many years ago.
Can anyone help with the serial numbers? Looks like MOS-L but then below that looks like MOD.
Just started this last week. I'm planning to finish it in time for the Get-A-Grip show next weekend in Cleveland TN.
Here's how it looked when I brought it home...
TRM's custom Elgin Decoluxe from last summer's Rat Rob Bikes build off got a very nice article and cover shot for this month's edition of Kustom Bicycle Magazine!
Go to Kustom Bicycle Magazine to see more photos and the full article!
The new TRM Christy Saddles are now available!
This is a fiberglass reproduction of an original 1895 Christy Saddle.
It comes in black with leather seat pads and is ready to use out of the box or can be painted.
The introductory price is $150 with free shipping (lower 48). Quantities are...
TRM will be offering a fiberglass Christy Saddle in the near future. It obviously will not replace an original metal Christy for a concours restoration, but will make a great option for a TOC style saddle that can be used for a daily rider!
This is my 1941 Elgin girls bike with a TRM Convertible Tank that I entered in the RRB build off. I call it 'Decoluxe'.
This is the fifth different frame that I've used for a TRM conversion and it's my favorite to date!
It's been said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Such is the case with the 'Raceliner' bike that I built a couple of years ago.
I had been Google searching images of the bike looking for one that I have misplaced when I spotted what appeared to be some slick black and white...
I built this one last summer. It started as a girls 1962 Columbia Firebolt. I added one of my TRM Convertible Tanks, some 700c wheels and some modern components to create a commuter bike.
This is where it started.
This is where it finished.
I have listed the Raceliner bike on eBay that was built using one of my 'Spaceliner Convertible Tanks'.

Here's the link to the tanks that I have for sale...
I was asked to post some pictures of the shift linkage that I made to replace the original cable shift for a Dana 3 speed transmission on my Raceliner bike.
Here are some pictures and a brief explanation of what's going on.
This is how the tranny looked when I opened it up to rebuild it...
TRM Convertible Tanks
These original tanks where designed to convert girls frame bikes into a unique boy's tank bike without any modifications to the original frame! The original tank was intended for a Spaceliner bike, but it will also fit many other frames including Elgin, Rollfast, Columbia...
