When I do one of my restos, I usually simply oil with the pedal in a paint mixing cup threaded side up. Let gravity do its work to get the innards lubed up. I don't see any good reason to potentially destroy the end caps on rare pedals to grease them. Its not like pedals see a lot of rpm anyway...
NICE! You find the cleanest bikes. This was a scratched up 77 Sierra in blue originally. A couple interesting observations, I notice the handlebars have a different shape, caused by the 26" stem? My handle bar tape is a better matching non-Schwinn tape sold as magenta. Yours should have...
Business as usual for me as well.
Been looking at what guys are saying about this on other websites associated with my hobbies and it does appear to be a consensus of relative calm and going about ones hobby undeterred. For me I'm buying parts and supplies as usual trying to get things done as...
I repaint almost everything and I wouldn't clear an original paint bike, don't see the point in it or the improvement. I do however wish touch up paints existed that didn't make things look worse on the old Chicago Schwinn lightweights with the trans colors.
btw, that black car was obviously a...
I don't see the logic in removing functional shifting gears in favor of single speed unless of course everything is worn out or damaged in someway and you are trying to get back to riding on the cheap and easy. All bikes with gears are single speed if you refuse to shift them.
I looked into using dry lube and it seems to be a lot of work. You've got to take the chain off and make sure it's spotless clean and dry before application. Guys that are into it seem almost fanatical with there maintenance above and beyond what most bikers would be interested in doing. You are...
Here is Chestnut. I have used this paint in a different shade and it worked out well. You can read how I did it in the restoration forum "how to Schwinn show quality paint start to finish"...
If that works out be sure to post some pics of the touch ups. LOTS of campus green bikes out there that need touch ups. GOOD LUCK!!
I never found Testors to be a good match for any of the translucent Schwinn colors. Quite frankly I don't think it's possible for any metallic or pearl paint to be...
There is nothing preventing anyone from marketing their own paints that color match Schwinn paints. There would be a legal problem using the Schwinn name on paint cans but I can see ways of getting around that quite easily.
Half pints of paint went from Pete's $52 to Koolestuff's $70. Considering it takes more than a half pint for a factory Schwinn match, you're looking at $210 for the base coats alone to paint a bike. One half pint of aluminum is enough.
It was already expensive, now it's outrageous.
Someone was selling some new schwinn continentals I believe, with bad batteries. Checked into new replacement batteries, whoa! big money, queered the deal.
Great topic for a change.
I can't help but notice the author started it off with an air of hostility but truth be told we all have plenty of that pent up inside admit it or not, and we all share a certain level of insecurities. I have been in the trades my entire working life, from home...
Yes I have some left, $12 shipped per pair
The down tube decals are standard decals for other models, he should have those. You can see my 77 Sierra in the restoration forum How to Show quality paint start to finish. See if that is what you are looking for.
All cups are not created equal. I have run into loose cups from time to time and being well stocked with used replacements I find some that are tight fitting. If you don't have access to some replacements I would recommend JB weld. Follow the instructions for overnight setting up.
That stem/cable stop looks like a home brewed modification to me. You would think a pro would have at least drilled it on an angle so the cable coming out would be inline with the cable housing. Seen lots of those kind of stems but none with holes drilled in them like that. Neat idea but I think...
There are two potential problems with water slide decals adhering. There is a texture or an excessive orange peel in the surface, whether it be paint or powder coat, this causes the decals to lift or "silver" upon drying. The second being the decals are of poor quality, meaning they are old or...
Oh brother. "A lot less color" what does that even mean?. Different shades of base coat can require anywhere from 2 to 8 coats of color to achieve full coverage of undercoats. Its got nothing to do with the clear coat. Single stage is best used for solid non metallic colors. As far as "looking...
Pre assembly is all that is required. Most major restoration projects are of non functioning whatever's. During the restoration components are assembled to check for fit prior to painting and plating, some times it takes many times to ensure proper fit and function prior to final finishing and...
curious what product you are talking about. I used to buy this but it's discontinued. I even phoned them to see what was up, they said it was due to poor sales. It was the stinkiest stuff and cheapest on the market but was the strongest working I found. I'm guessing the smell was off putting to...
What was the called for tire air pressure for these rims from the factory? just because the tire is rated for high pressure it doesn't mean the rim is. It could also be that the repro tires are junk.
Looks in the neighborhood of Radiant green, very nice. Really like Schwinn green bikes too. Got my eye out for the right tall frame Campus Green bike now or a half pint of nos paint to fix one up on the cheap.

If you spread the material cost over a couple of bikes it's not that bad but these bikes aren't worth much in the first place so that's a drag. I just like mint stuff. I look at it this way, one I can afford it, two in the great scheme of things it's not that much money and I enjoy doing it, at...
About $250 add another $100 if you want to go the optional sealer route. It would cost about zero more $ to do a second bike, about a hundred more if you wanted the second bike a different color. Trouble with the paint material as shown is they come in far greater quantities than required for...
I sold a couple of cherished Caddies to a guy in Australia, I was kind of bummed. I guess I was thinking once there I couldn't buy them back. He paid the extra G I insisted on to make the overseas deal. If I recall I did put no overseas sales in my ads. Sold a T bird to a guy in Poland as well...
It takes a special kind of superior intelligence to appreciate the Positron system and you obviously have it. Nice bike in a cool color.

Looking over the catalog it says the Paramount and Stingray were offered as Diamond Jubilee bikes. The Varsity, ladies Suburban, Fair Lady and Slik chic were available in white but no mention of diamond jubilee.

"1970 was the 75 Year Anniversary "Diamond Jubilee" for Schwinn. This bike was a very limited color run in 1970 and was the ONLY year they did a Schwinn...
interesting!
Object sexuality or objectophilia is a form of sexuality focused on particular inanimate objects. Those individuals with this expressed preference may feel strong feelings of attraction, love, and commitment to certain items or structures of their fixation. For some, sexual or even...
Keep it real!
I thought I was hard to get along with but with all the divorced and single guy's and gal here maybe not so much. One wife 30 plus years. I was born a collector it seems and had the common sense to know when I did get married to keep our money separate and lay the ground rules out...
I hear this a lot but what is it based on? 30, 40, 50 or more year old examples? The thing is you don't and can't know what the original paint looked like when it was new even if you bought it new because there is no way to accurately remember exactly what it looked like before the quickly...
The pin is not a tight fit in most cases and would spin around with use and end up stuck on the worn out area in short order, replace the pin. You can get those pins in hardware stores, they need to be cut to length which would necessitate either grinding or a dremel or similar cut off wheel...
I saw this but since I couldn't find the test I gave it a thumbs down. The skeptic should ask.
How do you "scientifically rust" fasteners and know they are all corroded equally down in the threads of the fasteners? I'm sure most of us have encountered multiple fasteners of the same size on the...
My wife likes the collecting hobbies I have where I don't lose money. The bikes I like are cheap in comparison to my old car addiction, so it barely registers on the nagging meter.
My advice to a young married collector would be. NUMBER 1, keep your money separate assuming you both work. Don't...
We should make a data base for all those who agree with the legal description of the purpose of a deposit. People that do not agree with it should be put on a no sell to list.
Who would have thought that a hundred dollar deposit is expected to hold something almost indefinitely and be...
The deposit money is yours, you fulfilled your end of the bargain period! When I sell something, it's usually to buy something else or pay something off. I don't have the luxury of endless waiting around or begging for the buyer to come through.
Plenty of legal info on this on the web...
I'm usually here when I'm procrastinating on getting started for the day on a project. I limit myself to two hours of time wasting internet activities like this a day. The feeling of self stupidity grows when I'm not contributing something useful in regards to bikes or restoration to balance out...
What was the purpose of the deposit then? I have given deposits back in the past but no more, these people need to be taught a lesson or they'll repeat this time wasting and inconsiderate move on someone else. No pity unless the potential buyer has made a serious effort to follow through and...
I think an affection for a certain brand of penetrating oil is based on the luck of the draw rather than any one brand being better than another. Whatever you were using at the time of success becomes your highly recommended go to source because it worked on the last frozen fastener you...
