Rivnut,
It does appear in the price sheet for March1,1959 as model K11.
see: https://waterfordbikes.com/SchwinnCat/flschwinn_1951_1960/1959.html
There is an illustration in the 1960 catalog.

Here's the serial number...
So here is the beloved Velvet de Luxe front end.
The other thing that is odd to me is that the lower plate fits a 5/16" rod and the upper would fit a 3/8".
Either could have been changed, or it took a 5/16 rod and the upper plate has bigger holes to allow a little wiggle room.
Thanks for responses.
Just wondering if H.P. Snyder was the only company that used this design to mount truss rods. Is it pretty certain it's a Snyder fork if made this way? Thanks. Pete
Hi,
I've looked at a lot of pictures of VeloSolex but didn't see one with a fuel tank built into frame.
That would be the really unique part I thought.
It was definitely set up to be front friction drive, and it definitely did not start out as a regular bike.
I almost bought it except...
Many moons ago I was at a flea market in Englishtown, NJ.
I came across a bike shaped machine which had two wheels(24"-ish), brakes, pedals, a dedicated front mount for a friction drive gas engine.
The real kicker was the gas tank was in the down tube.(no top tube in frame)
It most resembled a...
I'm not sure what those look like, if you could send me to a picture?
I think they're just run of the mill Normandy hubs-I could be wrong.
If you mean these, then no they are not...
Hi,
I have a Schwinn Super Sport with a date code of LH039xxx.This would be November of 1972 if I read charts right.
The hubs are dated 1-73.
Can I correctly call this a '73 model?
Thanks
Pete
Joe,
I wondered why the Trexlertown swap wasn't the same weekend as the Velodrome's.
It certainly adds to the weekend for those of us that have varied bike interests.

As for the dates of your spring show I looked in past...
Can anybody shed some light on this bike, especially the wheels? Snyder built?
Found in the Lounge forum in the "babes and bicycles" thread, page 750.
Thanks
Pete
I'm not sure holding the swap on private property matters legally.
Doesn't change the reason for cancellation of both swaps at Trexlertown.

See you next year.

Hi,
Anyone have more info on Fiat bicycles from around 1910?
I found this ad. There are some pics found on Google searching for "Cicli Fiat"
I'm assuming a connection to the car company. see:
Thanks for any info.
How about this "1920’s – 1930’s Overland Motorbike"?
http://www.nostalgic.net/bicycle518/picture2254
So then this Overland must be a similar model year?
The truss rods are probably 5/16 solid rods?
Thanks
Pete
Hi,
I’ve been meaning to post about this bike I found years ago, name badge reads “Velvet de Luxe”.
I haven’t found any info on this bike.
Private label nameplate most likely, I've been told.
Whole thing came to me hand painted over original red or dark red paint.
Notable features include...
Harpo,
I'm working on a similar Grand Prix, also blue with Carlton decals and a Carlton nut on seat post binder.
No wheels so don't know if axle nuts had caps on them.
I think if you check here you'll see that Simplex started in '71...
Hi,
Before I start a new thread am I right that your bike was determined to be a Huffman, and the Velvet de Luxe badge added at some later date? Wouldn't want to add to the confusion by comparing to yours.
I've had no luck finding any info on Velvet de Luxe.
Pete
Hi,
I found this thread and had high hopes it was a real Velvet de Luxe, but it looks like it's not.
I'm attaching some pics of mine in case someone wants to take a stab at who might have made it.
It has an undated hub by Eclipse Machine Co. of Elmira, NY. No pic-my phone can't seem to...

Thanks for replies guys.
If it wasn't clear, I'm trying to avoid any Schwinn specific rims and wheels.
Mostly so I have option of using modern lightweight tires.
If I understand correctly S-2 is the same as other brand 26x2.125 wheels and 559mm.
So those would work ok on non-Schwinn bikes...
Hi,
Is there an easy way to separate the regular 26" wheels from the Schwinn specific sizes?
(what I want is the size also known as 559mm, i.e. MTB tire size )
Of course if the tires are still mounted that should help.
Avoid anything with an S-5, or S-6, or S-7?
How about ID-ing bare...
Since you can sell on one day or all three, can you just show up Sat or Sun and setup for one day?
Or were you supposed to register in advance?
(Last year I made a $40 donation to the velodrome because it was pay in advance & rain or shine. Rain S**ks)
Thanks
Pete
I have a women's frame Hawthorne.
Inch pitch drivetrain, with a New Departure model D hub..
It has peaked fenders.
Do the fenders narrow down the year of manufacture?
The serial number is 64SN, found on bottom bracket, which may mean it's a 46.
Thanks Pete
Thanks Adam,
I may have found it is a 62 Flightliner after all.
I re-read this: http://thecabe.com/forum/threads/trying-to-find-how-to-read-this-jc-higgins-serial-number.60495/
In the third post is a scan of a catalog page. the model number 4668N seems to be what I have.
Hi,
I've been looking at the Flightliner info I could find on the CABE and came close to what I have.
I have a chrome Flightliner or similar model but I'm trying to nail down what model it is.
Numbers on left rear dropout are: 502 46682 578471
Has the Bendix 2 speed with red bands...
