After my mom passed unexpectedly, I sold all but one. For over two years this Elgin sat in it's shipping box, before ending up at my storage unit. I knew there'd come a time when I'd need this bicycle as much as it needs me. That time finally came.
Now, If only I could remember how to mount...
I'm 38. I only found my love for the old bicycles 4-5 years ago. Like many of you, I have several hobbies. Each one being special to me in more than one way. For me, i love these bikes regardless of how the market fluctuates. They have helped me through some of the hardest times of my entire...
I understand where you're coming from. However, i will gladly pay the premium for a part that not only matches in color, but that can also match the bike. I would rather the part pass for an original and look as if it has been with the bicycle for the duration of its life. Until i figure out how...
Love seeing stuff like this. A great bicycle, you, and your son. Thanks for sharing. Look forward to seeing the paint job in the future. Are you going to make a sign for it?
You might see engine blocks painted. Even valve covers. But, it isn't all that often that you actually see heads painted. Like others have mentioned, the heat will pop that stuff off in what I would imagine would be just a few long rides. Just my $.02
You MIGHT be able to get it powder coated a...
Great thread. I'm floored by how good the blunts look on the bikes. Must have spent nearly one hour looking at images after seeing this post.
Jim Roys nips look good. >=]
Unique, even.
I know who scooped that up. Great person, and a true officianado of the cycle truck and its history. I'm sure you'll be seeing photos up in time. He does a GREAT job taking care of them. =]
If it's a 1950's super deluxe, the tanks aren't as hard to find as you may think. Especially if you're not worried about the paint matching. Now, I'm not saying that they grow on trees. But, they are around. Please post a photo that works. :D
The last three weeks have been extremely rough for me. My mother has been in the ICU. Any bit of laughter helps to ease the pain and re focus my brain.
I hope that some of you can appreciate this. While the sign isn't exactly wartime, it sure does draw out a smile or two.
Fenders on 39 for that particular style were longer in the front. 40 looks to be correct. They switched over to match the ones used already on the 39 twinbars. Phone is almost dead or I would show photos of the two.
Nice bike btw. Hope you can get it. Personally, I would be willing to go a bit...

Very nice.
Are those Wald pedals minus the wooden blocks? The stem makes me wonder if it isn't closer to the end of the war. I have a 43 and the razor stem was still used. Like the basket. See it has the attachment for the lid. Whether it actually came with a lid or not I'm not sure...
Couldn't agree more. A rim in that condition is a lost cause. Even if you manage to make it look semi decent, chances are it's not going to be safe to use.
Your fenders are really not that bad. All depending on how far you want to go with the project really. I would definitely use them.
Knowing that some of you have some experience with this, I was hoping to ask for some advice.
Any particular tools that you found most useful?
Lend me your patience?
Much obliged.
I think Musselman made them both pre and post. I have some original literature/advertisement at home. I will have to look to be 110%.
As far as comparing the two, I have never actually sat and looked at the post (Higgins). =[
Yes. If you can hold off until tomorrow, when I get home tonight I can see if I still have that exact hub. If so, you can have it for nearly half that price.
