    Pick this up yesterday

The thing about these old Schwinns, at least in my experience, is that they get more positive attention and start more conversations than any new bike I've seen lately. Maybe we should steal the old Honda slogan and change it to, "You meet the nicest people on a Schwinn."

    1960 Coppertone Continental

If it were mine, I'd clean it up and ride it as often as possible. It's not something you see every day. Enjoy!!!

    1982 Forest Green Super LeTour

Very pretty! And harpon, I hate wheel reflectors too, so I run with reflective sidewall tires. ;-)

    My New '76 Continental :-)

Here's an update: After about 200 miles of riding with the new handlebar, I decided it still wasn't quite "right," so I ordered a Wald 803 bar like the one I put on my friend's Columbia that I recently restored. (You can see that one here.) And, now that I'm commuting, I had to put a couple...

Not Sure How "vintage" This Is, But I'm Enjoying It

Thanks, hashbrown! I've had a lot of fun fixing this one up because I knew it would be appreciated by the owner. And, as I suspected, when I brought it into work this evening and surprised her with the final product, she was thrilled! I think this one will be enjoyed for a good many more years.

Not Sure How "vintage" This Is, But I'm Enjoying It

A friend of mine asked me to restore this small-frame (I've not yet measured it, but I'd guess it's about a 16"?) 1982 Columbia "The Streak" for her. It may seem like an odd choice to fix up, but her father bought it for her before he passed away some years ago, so it has sentimental value. I...

What bike did you ride today?

Another day at the ranch ... my ride of choice this time around is my "new" '76 Continental.

What bike did you ride today?

I'm at work and it isn't raining, so that means I've got my '70 Schwinn Racer out. I love that I have a job (security on a small college campus) where I can spend the day riding!

    My New '76 Continental :-)

Thanks! I had fun getting it together, and I'm having even more fun now that it's more comfortable to ride. :-) I used the full-length housing for now because I had it on hand, and also because I haven't had time to do it differently yet. I was itchin' to get it on the road and make sure...

    My New '76 Continental :-)

It's not yet fully cleaned-up, but I did at least get it roadworthy - new brake pads and cables, tires and tubes, plus the usual lube and tune. I also followed through on the tourist conversion ... I think it turned out pretty well considering the parts cost under $20 (plus shipping). The seat...

    Schwinn Serial Number Stamping

Here's the SN from my new '76 Continental ... I thought it was a little odd that the CM isn't lined up with the numbers. They sure nailed that "3" in there good, though.

    My New '76 Continental :-)

I liked this guy right away - as I did the guy who I bought my Racer from. I promised to send pics once I get it dolled up and start riding it to work. :)

    My New '76 Continental :-)

Thanks! I really lucked into this one. It just happened that my wife and I were heading to Louisville on Tuesday and this bike was on CL. The seller was really nice and it made him happy to send it to a good home. I'm going to enjoy it!

    My New '76 Continental :-)

    That's about what I'd figured - I wasn't sure if it was June 14 or 15. Thanks!!!

    My New '76 Continental :-)

Serial # is CM559963, badge # is 1666 ... does that make it a beast?

    My New '76 Continental :-)

I was warned ... and sure enough, it's true: Schwinns do multiply. Meet my "new" '76 Continental. I've not yet begun to clean it up, but it appears to be all there, and everything works. In talking to the seller, I learned that he bought it four years ago and rode it to and from his home to...

    Nos Varsity

I can tell you the November '72 Super Sport I restored last fall had one, just on the drive side, and it would've been there from new, as the bike had all of 35 miles on it when I had it here.

    New "everyday" Wheels And Tires

Having had "Greenie," my '70 Racer, for several months now, it occurred to me that I had better invest in some different wheels and tires for everyday use if I didn't want to damage the precious original wheels (it could happen -- I'm the first to admit I'm a huge klutz). And, after finding a...

    1961 Coppertone Continental Tourist

Very sharp! I'd love to find one of those someday ... what a beauty. :)

    My 1970 Racer

Thanks! I really have enjoyed this one. I have three bikes that I use on a regular basis - this Racer, a Magna Rip Curl (the bike that got me back on a bike, four years ago) and an Electra Cruiser 1 that I bought last year. The Racer gets the most attention when I take it to work!

How about some STICKY'S for our new forum

    Good thinking! I'd like that.

    Nothing special...

    This is fantastic!

    My 1970 Racer

Here's an updated pic of my '70 Racer. This is with the new rack and speedometer that I got for Christmas, as well as a replacement saddle -- yes, I went modern, but I have had such good results out of the air cushion model on my year-round cruiser, I figured, "why not?" I just love this bike...

    Nice late 1950's Schwinn Racer

Very nice bike! I have a Campus Green '70 and love it.

    New project...62 Typhoon

    Sharp! I like it!!!

    Next project

I have a feeling this is gonna be sweet when it's done! :-)

A couple of early '70s Lightweights I've been toying with

Thanks! Everything paint-wise on both bikes is original - Kool Lemon on the '72, Campus Green on the '70. Both had been put away in good storage for a number of years before they landed at my house. Fortunately that kept damage down to a minimum - both have a few scratches and a ding here and...

A couple of early '70s Lightweights I've been toying with

Thanks, everyone! The new owner of the Super Sport is really happy with it. And I'm happy with my Racer, too! I've got a few things to play with on it, but that's fine - I wanted a good winter project and this will certainly fit that bill.

A couple of early '70s Lightweights I've been toying with

I've long wanted a Schwinn of my own to enjoy, but in between raising kids and working like a dog 6 days a week, the money and time never seemed to come together. That changed recently, when I began working on bikes for friends. It was in the course of starting this sideline that this...
