Welcome to the CABE! Boy are YOU a fortunate beginner! Many of us will send our address for what you don't want (grocery basket not included in last statement).
I could use one more... @ least have another blue corvette and a green... depends on $$$; Old man hasn't worked for over a year & SS is not large! Bad back, & neuropathy/balance... I can't carry much. BUT, I can still RIDE! Thanks for thinking of me!
On your upper fork neck (inside the head-tube); or, inside your bottom bracket (even pop out bearing outer races) you may find your 'main' original color. Secondary color probably an off-white or crème color. the secondary may show on neck as well as the primary.... just sayin' NICE SCORE for...
Check out your photos of chain guard in post #81; and, Mickeyc's in post #82; and, 1936 Pedaler's post #89. Write these guys and get measures of top length (Your guard is longer over-all???), length @ bottom from front edge to first step-up etc. Also, both of their guards are mounted higher...
Welcome to the CABE! Really nice score for ~60 year old bike. You may find quicker help & answers if you re-post in the "Middleweight" forum... this particular forum is for Balloon tire bikes...
Do You have 0000 steel wool? (DO NOT OVER DO THIS... STOP immediately if it begins to hurt your paint on badge). lightly and maybe a drop or two of wd40... attempt to shine your brass high-lights... This is the period BFG badge for a Chicago Schwinn built bike (your DX); and as Jeff said your...
Show photo of badge area on head tube; should be general outline/impression of badge shape on the original paint; also, mounting hole placement with measure between hole centers.
My baby brother, an August 1953 model, Received that exact tri-cycle for a birthday or Christmas gift ~1955. My 4 oldest boys (1970-1976) inherited it from uncle and rode it to death!
A crack-head would not have stowed the chain just so-so...; the Bloomington near me is a college town; perhaps this was left behind from a previous year...
Nice even small stamp... T and 5 numerals; your frame is a 1938 ( a 1936 would be larger irregular spaced numbers, letter and four numerals). Crank , 1937 most probably original. Nice original paint! OA bath recommended. Someone else can name the model of your straight bar frame....
Appears to be all Schwinn stuff... and if was original to your bike; your bike is a 1937 model. 37 is the year that crank-arm was made. Post photo of frame serial number, please. A 'T' followed by five numerals should be a 1938 model; a look @ the stamp used will also give strength to a correct...
The rear axle stays to seat tube collet being bent @ center around the seat tube look like collets seen on late 30s early 40s Monark skirts; but, the Monark axle stays curve, going down... yours are straight down; and, the drop-out is different. Monark employed that same collet to attach 4 and 5...
LOT of RED PAINT... need to see fork stem; inside BB! This maybe a superb repaint! Having it 35 years; it won't hurt to grease BB bearings and head-tube bearings...
Wish to see a flip side photo of the crank arm for date; and, what is your opinion of the "head-badge" replacement??? (The hand stamped plate on it when acquired; military?) Excellent Score! I'm going to have to work hard to faithfully keep the 10th commandment!

@John G04 Just maybe you've been hit by the curse that follows smokers... This may have been idle for years, indoors, @ a house/garage that had a cigarette/cigar/pipe smoker hanging out. Alfred E. Newman would say: "I know; I are one". I've found that Irish Spring bath soap gets the tar off my...
Looking Good! If frame and fenders follow suite this will really be a great OG score! (I don't agree with the folk who never wash and wax their car 'cause it lowers the value)!
That lamp, and one un-fixable fender brace, are all I lack of being satisfied with this one. It rides GREAT! @John G04 needs to clean his back to OG. He has a winner! (I'm partial to green).
That's where the most bikes of the brands that used that lamp are collected and ridden..... and otherwise, Yeah... I had to use one like that because I am TOOOO POOR to by the headlamp my Shelby originally had. This one was to bare metal; $65.00 plus mailing.
