This is a long shot I'm sure, but if anyone has an original 1896 Crawford catalogue they would sell, I'm interested. If you don't want to sell, I would settle for a decent photocopy.
At Copake until Saturday afternoon. Early headset design. I'm told the wheel size is 28". Crankset turns - not seized. Coasting pegs. Grips. Will clean up nicely. $500. Can pm me, or text 1-416-890-2348. Overnight in Hillsdale.
Before you jump on me for cleaning the badge instead of leaving the "patina", all of the parts below were caught in a garage fire. The badge was covered in black soot, and the leather on the saddle shrank in the heat. If you want to see the "before pics" go to post #1 in the thread "White Sewing...
Hello Cabers. I used to be on the CABE daily. Then, as they say, "life got in the way" and I fell off the radar. I had decided to move, which required months of non-stop work to get the old house ready for sale. After about 2 months in the new house, thieves burned down my garage. Fortunately...
It always amuses me when someone is selling a bike that they think was made in the past few decades but is really over 120 years old. Ignore the Schwinn sticker! This frame is a mess, but it was cheap. It has 4 badge holes, with the distance between the center of the vertical holes as 2 5/8"...
I bought this Hawthorne Flyer in the Copake auction. I have questions I hope Cabers can help me with:
1. I believe the bike is from the 1920s (or teens?), but what year was it made? It says Dayton on the chainring, has metal clad wood rims, an Atherton brake, and a long-spring Troxel seat that...
I'll be at Copake this year and hope to find a pair of Robert Dean tubular tires, white. Maybe you have a pair you don't need? I'm also looking for a Fauber crankset for a teens mens bike, and wooden track rims in good to excellent condition. I'll have my cell phone on me: 416-890-2348, or you...
This is not my bike and I'm not the one selling it, so that's why I'm not posting it in the for sale section (and don't shoot the messenger!). I just thought you'd find it interesting to see. He says his great grandfather bought it new.
The ad is/was posted on Kijiji, and the bike is located in...
I recently bought this bike, and to my surprise, I cannot find other White Sewing Machine Co. bikes on the CABE or after a Google Search. It must be a rare bike. I hope this thread will become be a central place for posting, discussing and viewing anything tied to WSM Co. of Cleveland Ohio (see...
I have a gorgeous original teens bike and it's only missing one wood grip. Here's a pic of the other one. It's long and skinny 4 3/4" long. Yours doesn't have to be an exact match. One is great but will buy pair if necessary. Bar size is 7/8". Will pay $$.
p.s. If you have wood but leather wrap...
I bought this seat a while back and it was recovered when I got it. It's a good rider, and I have it mounted on a 1952 CCM. Still, I'm curious to know what make it is and the (approximate) year range they were made. It has a distinctive frame with an oval shaped front spring, so I'm sure there...
I'm building a 1939 CCM Flyte and I want to scrounge around my garage, Ebay, or the classifieds here for the Messinger saddle shown in the '39 catalogue. The image is very good but a close up pic or two please would help getting the right one:
I have an opportunity to buy an 1887 New Rapid Ordinary. It's in great shape except for a bent hub. I haven't seen the bike in person so I don't really know what that means.
Am I right in thinking it will be nearly impossible to find a 72 spoke hub of any make? Does anyone here have a hub like...
I discovered that nickel-plated shorty stems from the toc to the '20s are difficult to find. In desperation I gathered up some rusty chrome stems that were lying around my garage and took them to my local plater. From checking old catalogues I had noticed that the stem styles from the teens and...
I picked up this rusty critter ...It was cheap. Three questions:
1. What is it? Wide flat metal rim on rear, with radial spokes could be a good clue. The ratty tire on the back tells me the rear rim is original to the bike. There's a really low badge screw hole, near the bottom of the head tube...
I'm picking up this kerosene lamp on Friday. It's a bicycle lamp because it has the word "bicycle" stamped in the metal, but I've never seen a mount like this before. It looks like it might require some kind of rod instead of a flat mount. Can anyone post a photo of the type of bracket this...
I could use 3 or 4 of these stems for bikes from the toc to the 1920s. Must be nickel plated, or cheap so I can have them replated in nickel. Shipping to Toronto Canada from the US is no big deal, please and thanks!
In older posts, fellow Cabers helped me identify this double top tube bike as being made by Great Western, possibly with a Crown badge (3" vertical badge holes). I also found a Cyrus by Great Western with the same fork crown. It came with a Fauber crank set and the BB has semi-circular cut-outs...
The first picture is the hub brake CCM (Canada Cycle and Motor) was using in 1904, and probably for the next several years until they came out with their "Hercules" which I believe was a version based on the Morrow design. The early Hercules hubs were flawed in that the teeth for the forward...
I bought these from a tool collector who bought them from the widow of a bike shop owner. The tool collector wanted to keep other tools in the lot and pass on the bicycle related tools. He insists they are all bicycle tools, but I checked the patent number on tool "H" (see pic) and found that...
Crank spins nicely. No broken stem in headtube. Chain adjusters are there, and little ring at top of seat tube. Original paint and nice nickel plated fork crown and crankset. Some plating peeling on crank arms.
The vertical badge holes measure exactly 3" from the outside edge of each hole. It...
I worked on this c.1956 BSA for about 3 hours before I came to my senses and sold it on for what I paid for it. I have way too many projects to spend time working on bikes that are not in my main collecting focus. For some reason, the front fender brace was on the rear fender and the rear was on...
I bought some CCM chainrings and cranks at the Copake swap meet. I'd like to contact the vendor who sold them. Nothing bad - I just want to know if there's anything left. If that was you please send me a pm.
My 5 year old fell asleep just as I was parking for the Auto Show, so while he catches some Zzzs, here's my latest find and my oldest bike! I think it's an 1890 Rudge Bicyclette Diamant No.2.
The crankset is loose, and it needs saddle leather, a few spokes, and tire rubber, but with those...
I'm very new to post-1983 (ccm bankruptcy) Canadian bikes and have been trying to get up to speed on who was around then. I've learned there was a trio of Italian-Canadians building bikes in the '80s: Marinoni in Montreal, Miele in Toronto, and Gardin in Mississauga (next door to Toronto). I've...
Rounded track drop bars suitable for 1920s-30s.
Need shipped to Toronto, Canada, by regular mail service (no couriers).
Send photo(s) please.
Thank you.

I was looking at buying a Boneshaker brand reproduction Ordinary, but found this one which has a backbone that follows the curve of the wheel nicely. The backbone is also tapered slightly as the original ones were back in the day. The previous owner thought it was made around 1950. From the hole...
I've done an image search with no luck. I think it could be ID'd fairly easily since it's almost complete. I think the round holes in the chainrings and frame configuration will provide the key, I just need the right viewer of this thread who knows what it is! An approximate year would be a...
I could not find a thread for members to show their "His and Hers" bikes so I thought I'd start one. To qualify as a true His 'n Hers pair I think they should be the same make and model, and either the same year or very close. Perhaps they don't need to be the same colour. You and the...
I picked up a 1964 CCM girls bike. It has a double sided bell with a picture of a lady's face on each side. Does anyone know who they are? I'm thinking they must be celebrities of some sort.
I picked up this nice, like-new condition 1972 Formula 1 this past weekend. Originally I intended to stay away from 1970s ten-speeds, but have become more interested in road bikes after acquiring a few 1930s track and road racers. I understand the derision some people have expressed for bikes...
100 and 110mm refers to the OLD or outer locknut dimension. I could use 32 hole or 36 hole.
The more common frame dropout width back in the day was 110mm. 100mm is narrower than usual.
It should be chrome or nickel plated.

I bought this bike recently. The badge says Model 50 but I believe that number was for a mens bike. Also there appears to be a ghost image of a taller badge. It has the "trophy fork" so that means it's 1898-1899, right? It still has all its ball-end spokes. I thought the hub would be a fixie and...
These came to me with a 1930s track bike in a trade in place of the original varnished wood rims it should have had. They are 36 hole, 1" wide, take 28 x 1 1/2 glue-on race tires, and have a wood core with sheet metal outer cover. There are no markings. A frame builder I know with 60+ years in...
This 1918 CCM Cleveland Ladies' Roadster, model 455 was found several years ago in a barn, covered in bird poop, in Smith Falls, Ontario, Canada. When it came to me, it had been cleaned up and made rideable, but with a more modern CCM steel wheel set, saddle, a replacement fork, chrome stem and...
I just bought this Alex Kay "The OK" track bike, or wanna-be track bike. Alex Kay Cycle Company was located in a tiny building at 320 Queen Street East in Toronto, Canada from 1899 to 1947. The building is now a pizzeria. I would call it mostly a bike shop, but in the Toronto City Directory it...
Found this in the workshop of a bike builder. Must have been for some kind of race or top speed attempt(?) Thought I'd share it here. Maybe someone will recognize it.
These are the only photos I have. It was too difficult to photograph the chainring, but it was a generic design. I'm hoping someone knows this fork crown. Sadly, a previous owner had parts replated in chrome instead of nickel:
Several people including myself have been asking about the years connected to Cleveland model numbers. The H.A. Lozier branch plant in Toronto was a frequent advertiser in the Toronto newspapers. I've just completed an extensive search of these ads and compiled the list below. Although these ads...
It's a brass Miller Monarch acetylene lamp, made in Birmingham. No patent numbers or dates. Lighthouse symbol on red and green side lenses. I've found no info after a thorough 'Net search. It must be 1890s to 1920s but I'd love to know the exact year range it was sold. Failing that, if someone...
Who are these people who apply silver spray paint on nickel plated parts and think they've done a restoration? I spent an entire evening undoing what one such previous owner did to my left-hand drive 1896 Crawford. The handlebars had been sprayed with red oxide primer underneath the silver, so...
I recently acquired this 1896 Comet. It rides very nicely on new Stutzman wood rims with metal inserts, and a first year Eclipse Morrow hub brake in place of the original fixie hub. With a 25 1/2 inch frame getting on and off takes some practice. The funny thing is, this is the medium size...
I bought this Cleveland at a farm auction in Almonte, Ontario Canada. I believe it to have all its original parts. I thought it was black, but a friend who helped clean up the paint insists it's dark green. I'm a little colour blind so it's hard for me to tell. Is it possible black paint might...
