I first heard of this hub from a page out of the 1958 Huffy Catalog posted by @partsguy:
https://thecabe.com/forum/media/1958-huffy-dealer-catalog-page-1.26835/#xfmg-comment-3878
Then @WillWork4Parts posted the link to this one for sale on EBay. At first the price was high, but I watched it...
I thought this article was interesting. In an interview, a former employee of AMF in Little Rock AR, Beth Cripps (then Stuart) says that they actually started production in 1955 from a plant they bought in East Little Rock, before building the plant on W. 65th St. That's the first I've heard of...
I was looking for information on Komet Super hubs and came across this thread:
https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/1962-26-typhoon-rear-hub.205053/
In the thread there are pictures of two hubs, @Ron posted pictures of one that came on a 1962 Typhoon, and @dirtman has one taken apart but he...
I picked this up the other day. Needs work but ought to clean up nice. And I never have to worry about a little hard, narrow and uncomfortable seat again!
The pictures in this ad are pretty useless, but If I was local to this seller (Texas) I'd have to go check this out.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/145085861286?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&customid=link&campid=5335809022&toolid=20001&mkevt=1
This was listed locally on Craigslist, the bike is pretty basic but I was tempted just because of the paint. But somebody else took the plunge first, so these are the only pictures I have. The seller said it was Huffman-built, as far as he could tell. Does that look right?
I posted about going to pick up this bike here:
https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/when-you-know-youve-got-it-bad.222234/
But this thread is on the bike itself, so this is probably the more appropriate section. I had the handlebars out today to adjust the head set bearings and took some detail...
I saw a Norman-built Western Flyer on Facebook and was immediately drawn to it, but being in North Carolina this presented a pretty good trip, too long to do at the drop of a hat. I asked about the bike but it was sold, so that settled that. But then a few weeks later it popped up again, the...
When @Tim s posted his early Corvette, I was struck by the seat post decal, the early version of the "Art Deco" type which I had never seen on any middleweight before that. So I've been keeping an eye out and this Tiger popped up on EBay a few weeks ago. The serial number was used in 1957, and...
I picked up this 1955 Huffy with a Bendix manual 2 speed, and it has the Bendix anchor clamp for the cable. I've got other bikes with the 2 speed, but this is the first time I've seen the clamp, usually the cable is clamped directly to the chain stay. I had seen the picture and never realized...
A couple of weeks ago I bought a 1940 (D8727, but the "8" is hard to read) New World with a derailleur three speed rear hub. The derailleur itself is a Huret Alvit, so no older than the late '50's, but the rear hub is an English Bayliss-Wiley. I found one piece of advertising on the...
I want to see some Roadmaster Skylarks. The Skylark was Roadmaster's cantilever middleweight with a chromed frame. From the catalogs, it looks like it was introduced in 1962 and was produced through 1966. Besides being cool looking bikes, this may help me figure out the mid-'60's AMF serials...
This is on FBM in Akron OH listed as "Old Firestone Bicycle". Most of the Firestones I've seen were built by Monark, or Huffy after 1957. This one may be a Rollfast (I'm not sure), and it has a two speed.
I've wanted one of these since I saw this one posted on Flickr (I can't link to it, but search on "Jack Hoyt's Raleigh Lancer" to see the pictures).
This one isn't quite as nice, but it will clean up close to it. I believe these were introduced for 1958 and maybe dropped when TI bought...
This was on Facebook last Friday for $400.00 listed as an "antique bicycle", by Saturday night it was gone. If someone on here got it, congratulations! I'm still mopping up tears.
I picked up a 1966 AMF Roadmaster catalog and the first model is one I've never seen. It's essentially a matched pair of Amflite models with attaching bars to make it a side-by-side tandem. Has anyone ever seen one of these in person?
So I'm looking at this Skyrider on FBM, it looks like maybe a 1959, and I notice that it doesn't say "Roadmaster" anywhere on the bike. These are the only two pictures in the listing.
This bike is pretty rough, but it's listed on Facebook in the Hernando FL area and it looks like it could be a white Corvette, and they're asking $100.00.
I've been looking at this old Schwinn lightweight with an odd derailleur bracket. The seller lists it as a Schwinn New World, but I'm thinking maybe an early Continental? I'll post the serial if I get it from the seller.
I've had this bike a while and didn't know if it was worth posting, but after seeing @RustyHornet's post I realized that I'm not the only one with a prize example of shade-tree engineering:
https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/ok-who%E2%80%99s-responsible-for-this.195514/
I can see it now: "You've...
So I saw this Monark-built Firestone on FB, my first impression was the Firestone version of a Monark Bearcat. I messaged the seller several times but never got a reply.
The Bearcat was Monark's take on a three-speed with caliper brakes, but looking at these pictures, these brakes look like they...
This bike was listed for sale a while back by @Notagamerguy, and I had to go to Philadelphia to pick up another bike a couple of weeks ago, so while I was there I stopped by and picked this one up too. He was thinking it might be English, and the lugs at the head look very similar to a late...
I picked up this (1947?) Continental a while back and after I got it I noticed some details that cooled my initial enthusiasm - there are stress cracks in the paint behind the steering head that probably came from a front-end impact, and while mostly original some of the parts have obviously...
This bike has rust and wear, but is pretty complete, and this frame style only shows up for a couple of years. It's similar to the Schwinn cantilever frame at first glance, but probably different enough to avoid patent infringement. It seems to be AMF's Shelby middleweight, or at least I've...
I picked this bike up as part of a package deal, it's a women's bike and there's no head badge but I'm thinking it's a Huffy. The other bike was pre-war, but this has a Musselman hub with a black-out arm, so I'm guessing early post-war. Am I close?
I picked this up last weekend, and I think it's a CWC-built 5 bar or twin bar. The front fork is bent and it's been repainted, but these are outside my area so let's hear from some of the more experienced Cabers. My first question, is the fork original, or was it repainted to match the frame? If...
I bought this off Ebay a few months back and finally went to get it this weekend. The man who had it has a pretty nice collection, but he's cutting back, and this was one of the few middleweights he had. He had a print out of a email from the seller he bought it from that claimed it was new old...
From what I gather, Huffy bought Monark at the end of 1957, about the same time as Schwinn's patent on the Cantilever frame expired, so Monark never built a cantilever frame. This could be a re-badged Huffy, but it doesn't look like the Huffy frames I'm familiar with. What is this...
I saved these pictures a while back, and after reading the "Help Identifying Schwinn Black Phantom" post it occurred to me that some other people might be interested. They're not mine, but I got permission from the owner, and they give a good look at a Centennial Phantom frame without the paint...
You may have heard that physics still hasn't explained how a bumblebee flies. Turns out there's also still some questions on exactly how a bicycle stays upright. This is interesting once you get past the advertisements.
I bought four issues of American Bicyclist and Motorcyclist from 1954, and they are fascinating. There was a big push by the manufacturers to get tariff protection against imports, which had taken a large share of the market in just a few years. According to "Crisis in the American Bike...
This has been on FBM for a while, and every time I see it I wonder what it originally looked like. Anybody got a complete example? or a picture? Or ad?

This is another bike on FBM (out of Ohio). It caught my eye because of the color and because it's a 3 speed, most Bianchi's you see are 10 speeds. Anybody got an idea of the year? '60's maybe?

This bike is posted on FBM out of Florida, and I was struck by the serial number. In the "War Time Schwinn New World Bikes" thread, @Miq and @GTs58 are dating the "I" serials to 1942, but this bike has a built-in kickstand, which I understand to be strictly a post-war feature. And if I...
You see a lot of the diamond-frame J.C. Higgins/Sears Austrian 3 speeds but fewer of this style. The chain guard on this one isn't original, but most of the rest is. A lot of the details are very similar to the diamond frame lightweights, so I'm guessing these were also made by...
I like these '50's AMFs, sometimes against my better judgement. I think 1958 was the last year for either the Pleasure Liner or the Luxury Liner, so this was getting towards the end. 1957 was the last year for the kickstand plate, I've seen it on some of the early cantilever frames, but it...
I picked this up last weekend, and it's well worn, but looks complete except for the replaced chain guard. I believe the paint is original, but other than pin stripes on the forks, there's no decals anywhere. So I was looking for pictures of a better example, and there are pictures of the ads...
