Thanks for the input! I didn’t know that the front wheel is on wrong. It seems that all the B6s that I’ve seen have chrome rims. Any idea of the reason for these being painted?
I found this on Craigslist for $450. What do you think? They said it’s a 1951. Any idea what model? It has painted rims. I’m guessing it’s missing a tank and rear rack. I’d appreciate any info or input! Thanks!
I’m looking for opinions on Schwinn reproductions. I found this one for $200.
Does anyone know if the parts are interchangeable with originals? It has AS bolts in all the right places, I think.
I’m hoping to get a Wasp someday and thought that the parts might be helpful.
Any opinions on...
It is a repop, I think. It has S bolts and is welded at the bottom. It fits just fine. In fact I have that springer fork and the handlebars from the Starlet on my American right now. (I have a 1963 springer fork for the American now.) I wanted to make sure that structurally it wasn't a bad...
I have a 1968 Starlet III that I am going to clean up for my wife. A while back I bought a chrome springer fork for my 1962 Deluxe American and learned the expensive way that the newer forks have a smaller diameter! Is it ok to put this fork on the Starlet or am I asking for trouble? Thanks!!
I found this outside a local thrift store for $75. It's missing something on the front fender and the rear fender. The chrome is rusty, but I've had Schwinns that looked worse and cleaned up pretty good. I was wondering if anyone knew the year of this bike and was wondering if $75 was an...
Ok, thanks for the info. How can I be sure to get the correct fork next time? Do I just look for a fork with AS bolts? Is there anything else to look for? The bottom of the steer tube (red head tube) has welds while the bottom of the steer tube on my 1963 Mark v Jaguar is smooth (black). Is...
I bought a 1963 deluxe American that had a lot of paint loss on the fork. I had seen that a springer fork was an option for that bike, so I thought, no problem, I'll add one. I bought a fork with s bolts and put it on the bike. I was feeling pretty good about myself until I tried to install...
Ha, ha! It's interesting to hear how you all got hooked! A few years ago I was the only bidder on a repop Schwinn at a fundraiser. I got it for $50. It's the Tool Time blue and white cruiser deluxe with a springer fork and tank. I knew nothing about Schwinns, so I started an Internet search...
Thanks for the offer to borrow the tool. Somehow I've ended up with 4 bikes with kickback hubs so I think I should have my own. How many bikes does it take to become a collector?
I'm feeling ready to take apart my first Bendix kickback hub. I've seen a tool for sale on eBay to take it apart but I've also seen the suggestion to make one out of 3/8" water pipe.
What do you think?
Am I crazy to tackle this?
Thanks,
Bart
Hi, I'm looking for an AS chrome springer fork for a 1963 Schwinn American. I live in northern Wisconsin. I seem to remember seeing a few sell on eBay for around $125 or so shipped. This is my first time trying to post something so I hope I got it right. Thank you!
