Here's the deal: I picked these parts up in a lot buy of bicycles and parts. I know absolutely nothing about them other than there's two complete examples for sale on eBay for $600+.
If I have them priced too high, make an offer. If I have them priced too low, you get a bargain. I have no use...
1953 Schwinn DX frame badged BF Goodrich. Spitfire? Lots of good parts. I bought is to steal the fenders for my prewar DX only to find they're not compatible. I can deliver to Memory Lane or Monroe if paid in full. I can also take PayPal or Venmo. Would consider trade for prewar dark red fenders...
Thank you. I think I'm going to sit tight until after the Memory Lane and Monroe bike swaps - unless just the right thing comes along.
Oh, and apologies for high jacking your sales post - hopefully it kept it near the top of the list.
Some dark red prewar to go on this beast. I'm working on having the front welded but I'd be interested in a matching set - obviously, patina is welcome.
I made the rookie mistake of buying a set of Hornet post-war fenders ... FAIL (photo 2)They look cool and match pretty well ... I'll chalk it...
Picked up this '53 BF Goodrich badged DX this weekend. I was going to rob the fenders for my '40 DX but learned the expensive way that they are not interchangeable.
Learning things the hard way ... That's how I do 😁
Mystery solved ... I thought the serial number was 0344882 making it a 1957, but it is actually C344882 making it a 1963 Typhoon - which makes a lot more sense.
I am always amazed at the amount of knowledge, and the subtle - or not to subtle clues that folks can see that give it away.
Any idea if this was an original color?
Any idea what this may have been originally? Serial number points to 53, 54 or 57, but does that seem right?
We bought this for my daughter at the Ann Arbor swap meet quite a few years ago.
I have no idea if it's a repaint or any backstory other than it's a well-loved, cool little bike.

Hi Mark, was that in the Old Bikes Club or the Elgin club? ... Oh wait, you're in Wisconsin, right? We will be taking a trip there sometime this summer ... just waiting to hear about a cool vintage ride or event and we would take the ferry across. I'll even hand deliver it :)
I know Robin is...
It's not out of the question but I can't imagine too many folks want to spend $150 or more to ship a $250 bike. I'd much rather deliver to one of the May swap meets, either Memory Lane or Monroe. So far there's been zero interest.
These parts came in a haul of bike parts I picked up and I'm wondering if they have any value as parts to someone? It appears the fork is gone and I'm not convinced the handle bars went with this. It is stamped on bottom and decaled on top: The Metalcraft Corp st. Louis USA.
I'm building a rider out of the remains of this 1940 DX pictured. Since it's not going to be a restoration project at this time, I am looking for color matched Chain guard.
I also need (one) crusty truss as pictured - or (two) that match in condition. I am not sure if there is a difference in...
Obviously, there's a lot missing here but there's a great deal that's good, too. A nice set of Torrington bars, a clean stem, fender over fork model, clean straight fenders, nice set of rims, Lightning Dart tires still pliable and hold air, head tube shroud, Lucky 7 seatpost, etc. Can deliver if...
Apologies for replying to an old thread ... Popped up in a search.
I'd prefer the same color as I do not intend to repaint this DX.
No worries either way, I knew it was a long shot.
Thank you. We are definitely planning on Monroe ... I will plan for Wednesday ... seems like Friday could be a better "bargain finding" day for those who don't want to pack up? So, is Monroe mostly the leftover pickings from Memory Lane?
I don't see where it says the hours on the flier. Anybody know?
And, if you could only come for one or two days - would you hit it at the beginning or the end?
First-timer for the Bowling Green event. Thanks
I've seen bikes done like that but I've never attempted it, or paid too much attention to what all is involved. I'm tossing around the idea of selling this one and finding a cleaner example at one of the upcoming swaps in May.
After many hours with WD-40 and steel wool this is where I'm at.
I'm at the point where I'm considering passing this one on to someone who likes'em crusty and concentrating on finding a nicer DX, either at Ann Arbor or Bowling Green in May. Maybe I'm just tired and will change my mind?
You guys know more than I do. I believe this came off a Hawthore Deluxe.
The leather is still soft and supple. I think it is suitable for use, but alas, it is missing parts to the chassis. Actual shipping may vary.
If you need better photos of anything just ask. The photos tell the story.
Yes, I had to grab everything. There's also a 52? Roadmaster, mostly complete, a 24" Stelber, a 24" Hawthorne, and the best of all was a 30s Hawthorne Deluxe 28". My buddy bought the frame, fenders, bars and partial rack from me already.
The 2 24" bikes are pretty rough.
I use the term "barn find" loosely in this instance. This past Wednesday I drove an hour and a half north up to a farm in Manistee, MI. Folks had a bunch of bikes and parts in a "buy it all sale". I noticed the DX, which is heavy on my desired bikes list, in the photos. Most of the bikes look...
Doesn’t necessarily have to be exact nor function. I’m looking for the tank and headlight bezel for the 1962 Murray Fleetline. However, I think the Strato Flite, Comet, and a few others models would suffice.
I have Venmo or PayPal for both of our trading security.
I need help. I've looked through both of the Spaceliner and Murray threads. I am trying to identify the model so that I might find the right tank and bezel. The serial no, I believe puts it at a 1962 from the Murray thread. MOU 70.... 200146
The only remaining logo is on the rack, and the red...
