Thanks for the call out. Of course, I love that project. Looks just like something I would build. And what a frame! Here are some of my thoughts as I study it. These are merely suggestions for experimentation, of course. Lower the seat and level it out and make the frame look more kicked...
Columbia built. Serial # M93049. Original paint with nice patina throughout. Very cool black w/red trim color combination with reverse paint scheme red forks. Nice headbadge. Tank is straight and solid. Horn is missing. Nice springer forks with steering lock and all correct hardware (no...
Hello all! I have for sale a really nice and original prewar center stand for a 26" bike. It has the correct unique bolts with it. A very straight stand with no rust. A perfect restoration candidate, or use as is on an original bike. $150 shipped within the lower 48. Paypal F&F or add 3%...
Hello all! Can the experts here help me identify this rear wheel? And does anybody have (for sale) a front wheel in 24" or 26" that matches this rear wheel in the same condition? Plus need an NOS 24" Thick Brick or an NOS 26" Quick Brick tire. I will buy a pair of wheels or tires to get...
Hello all. Looking for Felt 24" x 3" Thick Bricks and/or 26" x 2.125" Quick Brick Tires in Antique White. New or Used. What do you have? Thanks in advance! Timothy
I believe that he took the best parts from an Elgin and a donor Monark and made a cool wartime custom. Bearings are still well greased and the chain is like new. I have never seen another chianguard like this one.
Found this Elgin this weekend. Kind of an Elgin-Monark hybrid. Bought from the original owner's son. Original owner was born in 1929 and just passed away. It has sat untouched in the dry basement of the family farm house since the end of WWII. That's right! Untouched for 75 years! I was lucky...
I like it, but it's pretty rough. And it looks like the front wheel isn't original. Plus I am 2500 miles away. How much effort did you put into freeing the stem?
Hello all. I am in search of a 50's Columbia chainring for a 20" project. Non-skip tooth style. Smaller size preferred. Cleaner condition also preferred. Thanks.
I am going to start working on this today. Would this bike have had a tank? Rear rack? What all am I missing here? Too much missing to make original again? Should I just make a rider out of what's there? Or just build a mild custom out of it? What is the best method to "bring back" the...
It has "M-W" before the serial number. The "M" means Murray and the "W" means Western Auto stores. The same Murray-framed Elgins (sold at Sears stores) had "M-S".
More like a 40 year hoarder. His whole house and yard is full. He's just starting to dig through stuff little by little. He is finally starting to let me dig through some stuff too. He doesn't even remember everything he has. And he is still finding and buying more every day. The problem...
Found this yesterday when I was looking through a pile of bikes at my buddies bicycle junkyard. It's an all original prewar curved-seat-tube Western Flyer made by Murray of Ohio. Basically the same as an Elgin. Just needs tubes to be a rider. I really don't know much about the bike. Please...
Hello all. I am considering selling my '64 Sears Spaceliner. The serial number verifies that it is a springer fork and a 2-speed hub equipped bicycle. It is in amazing original condition. Not perfect, but very well preserved. Absolutely no rust. Tires are not original but are older. What...
Found this 20" frame in a pile of bikes yesterday. Kind of unusual with the 3 piece cranks and the jam bolt on the seat post. Looks similar to Murray of Ohio built bikes from the 50's with the tapering top tubes and the clasp-style top
bracket on the seat post tube. There is still...
Thanks, Sean. That was a ratty wingbar. I built it for the RRB build-off. Fun bike. Building a nicer one now. Please edit your reply to remove my address.
Just checked the hub. New Departure Model C. That model was last made in 1933. From what I have researched, the "4" at the beginning of the serial number indicates 1934, and the "G" might indicate the month of production (July, '34). But the '33 hub probably makes it a very early '34...
Thanks for the info, guys. This is my first Colson. Here are some shots of the entire bike. I just had to air up the tires and it was a rider. Fun little bike. Best five bucks I ever spent.
I was fortunate enough to find this little treasure this weekend at a local garage sale (for $5). I have tried to narrow it down but my short time in this hobby has made it difficult for me to ID positively. The serial number is 4G5028 but the headbadge is missing. The grips and the seat...
