I thought it was a funny idea. First, that bike theft in the Bay area of CA is so bad that they are doing reports on 60 minutes, and second that they would go to the extreme of loading a bike lock with "skunk juice" to deter it. Maybe we should design a six inch steel spike that is spring...
Hey, Vince, not to go off topic, but where did you pick that sweet old Wareco gas pump? We had two Wareco gas stations around here when I was a kid. Brings back memories of buying ice cold cokes and dew worms on our way to the fishing hole. I thought they were limited to Illinois, but I was young.
You have to wonder how comfortable the ride is going to be. With no visible suspension and airless polymer wheels, won't you feel every bump and pebble?
I am already indebted to a couple of cabers that generously donated to my first bike project. As I acquire more parts and bikes, I will be sure to pay it forward. And I will never be able to repay everyone on the forum for their generous gift of knowledge.
That's why I posted this. We all think it can't happen to us, but there are lots of crazy people out there. I bought a bike up in Rock Island and had the guy meet me at the courthouse. Made me feel safer.
I just ran across this article about some guy getting robbed and shot while going to look at a craigslist moped. Thought it would be a good reminder to my fellow cabers to be careful when you are going to look at stuff listed on craigslist...
Who are you hurting? No one. Does it make you happy to find a cool bike, fix it up and find the correct parts to make it right? If the answer is yes, then keep on keeping on. Let your heirs worry about what to do with them after you are gone. I am new to this hobby, just stripped and rebuilt my...
My wife wants a basket like this for her Collegiate. Anyone have a set they would part with? I would prefer ones that look like these, if possible. Thanks.
Well, it took longer than anticipated, but here she is:
Still waiting for brake pads and a seat cover. Also have to look for a new seat bolt. Special thanks to rustjunkie and juanitesmith13 for help with parts.
It's unfortunate that there are unscrupulous people who try to take advantage of people that just want to restore these old bikes. It seems like the more the prices of good original bikes goes up, the more you see this.
Yeah, I was just wondering about pricing for the Superior. I have seen others that were $500-$600. Right now I am hoping to snag Eric's Voyager. Just a lot of stuff going on right now. Stove took a dump, have to go to Arizona in October for a wedding. Trying to save money for the daughters...
Is $390.00 a reasonable price for a Superior? Do you see anything missing or wrong with the bike?
The only problem is it looks like a 27" frame. I can ride it, but I am on tip-toe when I stop.
I think it is supposed to be one of these.
but that one has the wrong rear brakes, missing the shifter, chain guard, and head badge. And it has been molested by a rattle can. And judging by the picture, I would say the derailer is messed up or the chain has been threaded wrong. Might want to...
That's a sweet looking bike. Let me see how much this stove is going to set me back, and I'll let you know. Madison isn't that much farther than Chicago.
Would like to have it. Unfortunately, the electric stove decided to take a dump this week. If it is still there in a couple weeks, I am going to see if he will take 300.
Apparently, this is what happens to Sunset Orange if you leave it in the sun for 40 years....
It becomes "Sunrise Salmon". It's listed on ebay for $19.95. I'm sure it is a rare color.
Yeah, I was just kidding (mostly). Showed the picture to my wife this morning over coffee. I'm not sure I can really describe the look on her face, but I am fairly certain I got her meaning loud and clear. There will be no bike hoarding in this household.
I can't stop thinking about this hoard. There is approximately 175 bikes in there. If you sold each one for $15, that's $2,625. And there might be a rare gem buried in there somewhere.
I don't have any pictures of me on my one and only Schwinn that I ever owned. It was a 67 fastback 5 speed with a stick shift. I begged my mom to buy it for me for my 11th birthday in 1972. We bought it from a kid in the neighborhood named Donnie Horkstrom. He was older and wanted a 10 speed...
Hello, all. Getting ready to go shopping for a repair stand for these Schwinns piling up in my garage. Wondered if you all could make some recommendations. Or if anyone has some plans for building your own, I would be interested in that, too. I had a dream last night about building one out of...
Well, the wife has certainly weighed in with her opinion. She just got back from 10 days out east to see family, and she was a little disturbed that I had acquired 4 bikes while she was gone. She reminded me, rather forcefully, that our oldest is getting married next fall, and we have to set...
I appreciate the advice, and I'm sure you guys have lots more experience with this sort of thing. Right now, I am like a kid in a candy store, I want everything. I'm sure it will wear off. I just hate seeing these cool bikes rusted are neglected, and I want to save them from the junk pile...
Well, call me stupid. I was all lined up to go see this bike, and I clicked on the map to see if he lived close to the highway. Turns out he lives in Lincoln, Nebraska, not Lincoln, Illinois. I decided that was a little far to drive for a $65 dollar bike.
Call me immature, but I want old Schwinn bicycles. Would I like to have a 73 Paramount? Sure I would. Not gonna happen, tho. If I did stumble across a barn find, I couldn't afford to replace any missing parts. And I can assure you I will never buy one that has already been restored. Same...
