Restored 20 years ago Bluebird OC CL

Like the Aerocycle only so many were made and just a few exist which make them rare and valuable. I prefer Sears "Zepellin" which made the bluebird.

To get top money, you need top product This holds true in Baseball, Comics and other hobbies. The better condition the better results. Here you have a valuable bicycle. To offer such price in this condition is not reasonsble. Do as Balloonatic suggested.

What is the best kind of paint to use for a patina match finish?

Take the bike to auto paint shop they will give you the color code for that paint.

Thank you for your information. Not seeing it in person, I was asking about the left side fender with the dark that looks like a dent. Thank you for your patience and information.

    Sold 1100$ 51 phantom

Is the head badge missing? Is there a dent on the left front fender on the rear? Since I cannot see it in person, I need to ask. I believe both can be easily corrected. I just need to know. Thank you.

It's a beauty as is! When you mentioned "crash rails", is that the "Schwinn tabs" that go on the side of the saddle? Do you have the Schwinn key or is it broken on the lock stem? Thank you. I love the '51 solid Phantom red color!

New EBay problem to watch out for!

Are you saying that if you set the "Buy-It-Now" option with an amount that you feel is right like $400, Ebay can change the amount to another figure which you never agreed to? If that's the case.....that's totally wrong and I would report them to Better Business Bureau.

    95 Schwinn Phantom repop

I bought the Black & Red Phantom version. But yours is so nice. I love the green. I bought mine when the Schwinn local shop was closing.Mine was the display model, but for $650...it was a very good deal. I been checking on the history for the repop phantoms. Found out a few were put together in...

    PM Sent!

Since I cannot see the item in person, I'm going to ask questions. Some sellers use ads from the web to illustrate their item. That don't cut it with me. But, I can understand one can go overboard with too many tire- kicking questions. If the seller places his ad with the actual item and...

    1932 Schwinn on ebay. lol

I once took to task a "seller" who put a high price tag on his item with no intention of selling it. The look on his face was funny when I met the price. He replied, "Damn. I didn't think nobody would buy it at that price. I told him it was false advertising and his credibilty in my opinion had...

    1951 phantom ??

I used as described by Shawn, "acetone very carefully" on a Schwinn phantom which had been house spray painted blue. The sprayed blue came off to reveal a red phantom. The original red was faded in parts. I bought it at a low price and also because it was a complete bike with original parts. I...

Is It Wrong to have tassels on a Dude's bike ?

I'd probably take it down and ride it all the time. But I agree, this is an excellent display and photo.

Can someone get me started on the ID of this bike?

Columbia "Newsboy" seems to be the consensus. This Columbia Newsboy with the front lobster trap....looks very much like the pic you posted. Differences are the saddle and pedals. Somebody with knowledge about Columbia bikes might be able to tell you about the location of the stamped number on...

Can someone get me started on the ID of this bike?

Unless someone can tell from one picture. I would begin with the head badge for starters. Are there any words on the chain guard or rear brakes?

1936 Elgin Bluebird Project for sale $5500

Great! When I was on my project which took time and finally finished it. I realized that the joy/fun for me was in the search for parts, putting it together and meeting people who helped me along the way. I sold it long time ago. As much as I loved the looks... it was not a comfortable bike to...

Huffy RADIOBIKE on eBay! Low starting bids!

That sounds like an oymoron ! Just kidding....;) Would the size of the tire classify it as a middleweight? I'm a little under the weather and enjoying the Cabe and this topic in bed!

Huffy RADIOBIKE on eBay! Low starting bids!

Looking at posts from about 2010 or so, can't say exactly what years, but the going price for a top Radiobike was $3K. Way less if parts were missing. These were comments made at the time and may not have reflected a real monetary figure. But as you pointed out, much depends on what someone is...

Huffy RADIOBIKE on eBay! Low starting bids!

In your opinion, would a Radiobike that has missing parts but nevertheless the correct parts have been located and applied, still have a good value if it was to be sold? Thanks.

Huffy RADIOBIKE on eBay! Low starting bids!

I saw a scene in "Back to Future 2" where for a few seconds I could see a red Radiobike inside the garage with Doc Brown. The following scene he rides a bicycle which I have never seen or heard before. I was wondering if the Radiobikes are "Middleweight"? Thanks.

    started on my he/she transformation

Years ago at Pate's Auto swap near Ft. Worth, I saw a bicycle very similar to yours. I had thoughts of adding a top tube & tank. But did not have the knowledge/skill for welding. Being a girls frame, the vendor was asking a very low price. I could kick myself for not buying it. The beautiful...

    Green Phantom Refresh

One of the things that stands out for me are the rivet fender braces which was used on Schwinns. As opposed to the nut and screw fender brace mounts. Could these fenders/braces also have been aftermarket items from that time?

    Green Phantom Refresh

My 'Schwinn phantoms: '52, '53, '54 and '55, fender braces are rivet-mounted. This is the first I've seen nut & screw fender mounts like what you have on a phantom that looks original. I have a '95 Schwinn phantom limited edition with similar nut & screw fender brace mounts. I always thought nut...

    Western Flyer Special Edition Reproduction

Columbia Manufacturing Inc. made bicycles for Western Auto. In the 1980s through 1991, Columbia made reproduction-style Columbia and Western Flyer models, similar to many and identical to none of the classic bicycle "styles" of the classic period (1930-1950) with runs of 5000 and 10000...

    Western Flyer Special Edition Reproduction

If not mistaken, I recall it was in the 80s. This WF repo was my first purchase when I got the bug for old balloon bikes. There were negative comments about this bike, but I didn't care. It was a fun bike for me.

    Sold Diamond chain $32

If the chain includes the Master Link...can I add more of the same chain so that it will fit my bike. I have some of this style of chain, but not enough. I have never done this before but I'm thinking it might be possible. If my question is out of topic, sorry... please delete it.

Red Phantom aka "old crusty" will be my new rider

I believe both of you explained it very well. I've seen the word, “Opalescent” in Schwinn ads to describe a specific color scheme. I just don't have the specific ad on hand right now.

I didn’t used vice-grips...but if you do... Vice grips on the wrench tool only! Now you have more leverage. But apply it in short amounts of pressure. You don't want to disfigure the slots on the nut. It may take time...use lube oil. Eventually it will loosen. Good Luck

Red Phantom aka "old crusty" will be my new rider

I believe the Red phantom came in two "types" of reds. My 1955 Red phantom is a shimmering color. It is faded but I can tell it was not a solid red. Same with the '54 Western Flyer Deluxe X-53. The red is mettalic or opalescent red. On the other hand, I have a '52 Green Phantom and the hue is...

What's up with bicycle tubes? Eventually, they all seem to go flat!

I had a pair of pre-war red tires from Coker. Several years later they disintegrated. I've also had a pair from Memory Lane. They are still working fine. Both were made overseas.

What's up with bicycle tubes? Eventually, they all seem to go flat!

Wallymarts are inexpensive but will not last for long. About the only good thing is that I can return them with no hassle. I have had good luck with GoodYear Tube’s.

Red Phantom aka "old crusty" will be my new rider

I got the idea at the local Market Square where a guy set up a small table and would carve name initials on brass rings in no time.

After close to 100 years without being touch by a human. This gal was not going to make it easy for me. A couple of drops of lube oil and patience. Using an old bike wrench which fitted into the two slots and slight force I managed to loosen the nut so that I was then able to remove it by hand.
