Another thing that i find interesting about the date stamping and the production date confusion....
From what I have read about Colt Firearms productions, is that when Colt productions ran a batch of parts/frames that carried a serial number. The stamped parts were all tossed into a bin, and...
This hub has a lube port built into it. Anyone know what type lube SA recommends to use with it?
Just acquired this bike, and it appears to be a very low mileage original.
The bike operates magnificantelly to be 62 years old. The old hub shifts fine as is, but I just want to keep it operating...
It's been sold. I bought it.
But for future reference, these are made for a 24" wheel but they will also work with a 26". That's how I use it. It's pretty tight, but a fender can also be used with these.
FWIW...I cut this down to use on a boys frame. I had to get a die and handle and cut new...
Old fashioned round bicycle bell works best for me, as well as saying "passing left". Many wave or say "thank you" as I pass.
Park rules say to slow for walkers, which I do. I also speak to every one I pass. Both directions..."Good Morning"!!
I ride the trail at the same time daily, as do...
It will work. I would leave a bit of a hump where you grind off each tooth like a regular skip tooth cog is made for chain support between the teeth. The thickness of the cog metal is the main difference between the two chain types.

My interest is in....Bendix 36 SPOKE, Blue Band Overdrive, Hub Shell Only.... Part #AB-401
I recently came across an extremely nice condition Blue Band Overdrive kick back hub that was advertised as a 36 spoke hub on Ebay.
When it arrived, it actually was a 28 spoke hub. Most of the holes...

Well, I'm over sensitive right now.
Earlier this year a dog crashed me and I was ailing somewhat for a couple of months.
I was on a park trail behind my house, as I do every morning. It was in the spring, and before sunrise. A woman had the practice of bringing her two doberman size dogs into...
When I was a kid I had an old Cushman Step Through Scooter. Every time I'd ride through the little town this danged dog would take off after me and yap at my foot. One day I noticed a car parked alongside of the street. (This was the days when cars had REAL bumpers) I started kicking at the dog...
On the trails, when approaching from the rear. I ALWAYS Slowdown, ring my BELL, and announce my presence....such as "Passing Left"...
I have a horn, but only use it when waaay back from walker. (When Passing from behind) The horn can startle walkers if used too close. The bell is a less...
...if YOUR dog doesn't like bicycles?
So tired of riding on the street or trail where it's A-OK for bicycles to roll, and some dog walkers animal strains ferociously at their leash to get at me!
AND ITS MY FAULT!!!
And The dog's owner yells Insults at me!!!
Grrrrrr!!!!
GET THAT %$#@& DOG SOME...
Finally a sunny afternoon in North Texas, so I'm out Test Ridin' my Patriotic Silver King Custom...'36 vintage.
Sturmey Archer 3 speed coaster rear hub, Sturmey Archer front drum.
I have 2 of those, each with key, and the same key works both. It's possible that it might work that one also.
The key is just simple plain flat metal. If someone wants this lock, I would be happy to send them a tracing of the key. If it didn't work exactly as is, at least it would be a start.
This is not that! This is a brand new fee on top of that 3%. Around 5% I suspect.I've been doing what you are saying for years, this is BRAND NEW!!! It just started. It is a brand new BOA CC money grab!!!
This has just started for me. Paypal warned me, but I went on to completion in spite of the warning.
I have been purchasing here using Paypal, and as most folks want, I send the money as F&F.
What I have been doing is just to use my 'Bank of America Visa' CC to make the purchase. Not my PP...
I think I’ll try that myself. That was my problem with the Bendix too. I wanted to keep my proper chainring on the bike. The bike is a mid “40s 26inch Western Flyer.
I’m not quite sure what chainring was used on 1/2 inch Western Flyers in later years. Right now I have a 52 tooth Monarch...
Thanks,
Yeah, I've had them both apart, and they both have direct-drive for the high gear. and 3 planetary gears around the "Sun' gear which IS the direct drive gear. These planet gears when actuated by the position of the main (sun) gear spin the wheel at a slower rate. Both ND and Bendix work...
Thanks Chad!
I'm going to have to let that sink in for a while because, at first look, it isn't making sense to me.
That would make it appear that the 2-speed somehow creates an overdrive in high, and I can't see how at this point???
In actuality, High gear is a direct drive from cog to...
It appears to me, here in North Central Texas at least, that the most common ratios on 1-inch chain gearing is 26 teeth on the front and 10 on the back.
With New Departure 2 speed hubs, all I have seen come with a 12 tooth cog. I don't recall seeing anything smaller. So then compared to a...
I created a Claim via PayPal first, not knowing how it worked since I've never been in a case where I have had to do that before. Now I know how it works...
I can't get a refund from both PayPal and my CC. If it was even possible, it wouldn't be right!!!
If I had known how PP worked I would...
Yeah! I pay by credit card only with PayPal. I have it linked to a bank account that has less than $100 in it but I never pay for anything out of that.
If I don't get my credit, then I'll go to the bank, but since I have initiated a refund using Pay Pal I figure I wouldn't be able to do it from...
In October I found a 'sponsored' item for sale on facebook that perfectly fit my needs as a bicycle helmet. It was advertised as a folding bicycle helmet with a baseball cap style bill, and it showed a photo of such an item. The photo showed a structured helmet with a long bill and had proper...
Just got her up and running and on the trail. My '36 Silver King....seen here with the mighty Sabertooth Tiger.
She's All Dressed Up for traipsing the trails near my home.
The red stuff on the frame isn't painted, it's reflective tape to keep the cars aware! ( I was hit by a car once cause...
I am in need of a New Departure, clamp-on Shifter, and also the Roller Pully for the wire, for an ND 2 Speed Hub,
Reasonably clean rider condition would work just fine for me as the bike would be a rider.
Thanks much for your consideration.
Paul
I'll bet I sold a few of those in 1968. I used to be a Dime Store Manager in Mississippi! And at Christmas time I sold a lot of Murray and AMF wheel toys.
But I'll Guarantee this, NONE of the kids in Mississippi looked anything like that!
Around 1950 I seem to remember buying some kind of converter to change my regular coaster brake into a 2 or 3 speed unit. In my mind it was a Bendix hub that I had, but that is memory from nearly 70 years ago...
Whatever it was, I installed it myself, and it was not an entire hub replacement...
Chromium Steel balls should be fine. I have ordered a few of various sized from amazon, and have used them often.
This should be a good assortment to have from Amazon...
