Schwinn offered this one year only, 1978. The Stingray "Scrambler" was on its way out. This was similar but smaller forks, cranks and bmx saddle. I've always wondered if this model is the junior sting ray frame?
Anyway, the Scrambler name moved to the BMX line.
Wow, love it. I have a similar frame, it has a BF goodrich badge and I believe it is a 1936. need to pull it out and do some comparisons to this one. Paint is amazing btw!
first gen predator. Basically, a Scrambler diamond frame from late 79 & 80 w/ a bit larger gusset & different Brake Bridge. Head badge on bike isn't original to the bike imo.
Horionzblue nailed it with his post #7
No reason to call me out as "pointing out the obvious". Just thought I'd mention it, not sure it's obvious to everyone?
20" king sting, yes that is custom for sure, kind of anomaly really.
Anyhoo, the person who is receiving the bike is 35 years old, that's why I asked if SLM was suggesting a...
No offense to your buddy's predator/Sting but the King Sting was only offered as a 26". The Sting was the 20" model. I wondered if SLM's reply was referring to a 26" bike?
It's all good. If not, just embrace the complete history of Schwinn 20" Bicycles fellow Cabers, I agree to a point that tampering with a complete could be deemed as sacrilege but many kids (even some of yourselves) did it in the early 70's. In Southern California those "completes" the kid's...
Pretty sure it's a 1983 mini thrasher. You can find it in the 1983 Schwinn catalog. Frame made overseas. Some of the parts like stem, cranks, headset and BB might be leftovers from Scrambler era. As far as value, not as much as a U.S. made scrambler/predator '82 or older.
Newbie but very experienced BMX collector from Illinois here to help...
Silver one is about 1983-84 Schwinn Thrasher Mag. Frame manufactured in China or Taiwan, most likely by Giant. I believe these were still assembled in the USA. Bars, stem, chaingurad, BB & cranks all appear to be leftovers...
They are pretty sweet tires, only issue is the fastback wheels are skinny 1 3/8" I think, S-5 or S-6 rim type.
Any story to share on the old bike shop you picked these up at?
Newbie here but I am pretty sharp with the BMX market and prices, especially Schwinn BMX. I can give you a value but not sure if it is against the rules to post values openly in a thread? I will say the last pair of these I saw sell was a year or so back and they sold after sitting for sale a...
^^thanks sir, believe it or not I did realize how old the post was. I have been searching for a this frame in this color/year/condition for about 6 years. Mine was stolen as a kid so I am asking whenever there's one that looks this nice with original paint, even if it's a slim chance. Do I...
