You have a nice well used 69 Apple Krate. It has the earliest version of 3 available shift levers that year. The 5 speed shifters don't have detents when shifting between gears, friction only, yours is fine. The 3 speed versions did have the detents. Bike looks original, paint, parts, etc...
All of the Persons Solo Polo seats I have on and off bikes, probably 2 dozen now, and those I've ever had fit inside the square back Persons struts used on 63-64 Stingrays. That is both the originals for Stingrays with the white pan sticker and the Persons pan stamped version used by other...
yep, that's what I said, agree
The paper pan stickers and the Persons tags/rivets are readily available. The very early 63 Stingray used a "dog ear" Persons tag for a short run, then the more common rectangular tag for the duration
You have good seats there to restore for sure
Mike, Persons supplied this same seat to many bike brands. The solo polo seats used by Schwinn for the Stingrays had a white paper sticker/decal on the pan and all were drilled with Persons tags riveted on the rear. The seats used by other brands didn't have the sticker but had Persons stamped...
That is the original seat from this bike, it's 55 years old. They all age differently but you can tell it's the original glitter material and it's taken on a bit of gold tint to it. It's not the repro stuff most people have now that is much brighter and sparkly yellow. I have a Lemon Peeler for...
I've had original Stingray spokes turn black in Evaporust and just last week in Rust 911. They clean right up with wool or a brass brush. I've also seen original spokes that don't turn black in Evaporust so they must have been different materials at some points in time. This is a common finding...
Looking great Damon! Unfortunately, the boys forks have a steerer tube that is too short for the Mini, you'll need a girls fork or another Mini fork
From your pic, your fork doesn't look that bad to me, if it were mine, I'd have the fork darts rescreened or just reapply them with a quality...
Got me curious
Checked my stash and found this Slik - assume since the guts are salmon color it’s an early tire, 12/64, not 74?
It’s not an oval, black or yellow, and is not stamped Slik on the sidewall just Sting-Ray. There are no mold lines either indicating an earlier tire
Let me know if...
Glad to see it, I told you he does awesome work and was able to preserve the Schwinn cross script on the caps, a bonus! They look great on your mini.
He's polishing a box full of parts for me now
Like I said earlier, the SD was a unique 64 1/2 mid year model year release and later appeared in the full year 65 catalog, it came with the Yellow Oval from the start. The August Reporter articles introduced this tire with "plans" to add it to other models later on
Cool to see an early non...
Blackwall Sliks came out for the 65 model year following the 64 Knobby. The 65 models J33, Standard Stingray and J36 version of SD all list #3066 blackwall rear tire and I believe they are Yellow Oval. These bikes were mid year models, first available 4Q64
I've never seen or heard of an...
Up for grabs is a KE October 69 original Schwinn Stingray Lemon Peeler 5 Speed Krate
Well preserved original bike including paint, screens, decals, cables, seat, fenders, and front tire. New correct color line Gripper Slik rear tire just installed
Bike has been cleaned, polished, and waxed...
@damon strub PM me, on the FB Stingray pages, we have a well known expert that will polish your original pedals to perfection for under $50 shipped. I will share some of mine he's done over a dozen pairs for me
I’ve wrapped several Ram bars always using a single roll. You don’t need two. Keep in mind you don’t start until half way up the bars very little needed
Out of curiousity I went to the Mecum site and someone also paid over $9K for a disc Cotton Picker at the same FL auction
I may have to seriously think about putting some of my top bikes in these auctions for that kind of coin. A winner for a seller even after the sellers premium and expense to...
Grey Ghost was one year only 71, so any month and G would be 2nd digit for year. The disc Ghost would have L or M as first digit for November or December as transition models to 72 or H
Great news and your wheels look great
Sometimes Evapo is very rough on cad or zinc plating, for example, not the best outcomes on the early Stingray pedals before the chrome bow pedals came out. I've also had it turn spokes black, but you can brass brush it off. Evapo is best with chrome plated...
My understanding is no crimp carried over from 63 into early 64, followed by large crimp, then later in the year, they changed to small crimp as it was stronger, this finished out the 64 year and the small crimp were available over the counter.
I have bought original bikes and have seen...
