  1. Mark Johnston

    Jalopy

    No, they’re powder coated S2s
  2. Mark Johnston

    Jalopy

I’ve been away from bicycles for a while, but the weather is so nice today that I dusted off my old jalopy & took her for a ride. That is all.
  3. Mark Johnston

    Black 26” S-2s

Too much trouble to ship, I’ll just sell it locally.
  4. Mark Johnston

    Black 26” S-2s

    Duro brick pattern.
  5. Mark Johnston

    Black 26” S-2s

    $100, but I don’t want to ship a frame.
  6. Mark Johnston

    Black 26” S-2s

The chrome is ruined on it, someone put it on backwards & ran it.
  7. Mark Johnston

    Black 26” S-2s

They are Schwinn. When I got them they were original ivory with stripes, but the paint was shot.
  8. Mark Johnston

    Black 26” S-2s

I need to sell the wheels from this bike for other projects. Powder coated S-2s, Bendix Red Band 2 speed kickback, pork chop forebrake with cable, lever, and clip. New Duro brick pattern tires also. $450 plus shipping from 85019. Frame and fork are also available.

    Schwinn Hornet Deluxe 1951

Great job! Your bike is what inspired me to build this one.
  10. Mark Johnston

Thoughts on 2-speed 26" Balloon Tire hubs. Help me understand... re ND vs Bendix...

I run a 52 front, Bendix red band kickback with 18 teeth on one of my bikes. Works great, but I ride on relatively flat ground in Phoenix.

    Schwinn ladies tank panels

I bought these on EBay thinking they would fit my son’s girlfriends 1941, but they’re too narrow at the head tube. I assume they’re for postwar frames. $80 shipped to the lower 48.
  12. Mark Johnston

    New to me paint scheme.

Found a set I thought would fit, but they must be for postwar frames. $80 shipped if anyone needs them.
  13. Mark Johnston

    1950 Straightbar build.

Long strange trip, but it’s done now.
  14. Mark Johnston

Best drill bits for the $$?

Chicago Latrobe cobalt drills are by far the best general purpose drills. Machinist for 33 years. Anything from Harbor Freight is junk unless you’re drilling wood.
  15. Mark Johnston

    Expected more for sale

    What are you looking for?
  16. Mark Johnston

    51 panther

    Sorry.:-(
  17. Mark Johnston

    51 panther

Sorry man, totally my fault, I used 1/8” on these two, and misspoke in that post. Unfortunately it will most likely pull the paint.
  18. Mark Johnston

    51 panther

It looks good, but I misspoke above, I used 1/16” wide tape. Sorry for the mistake.
  19. Mark Johnston

    Schwinn ladies fenders

    I’m thinking it was a DX37?
  20. Mark Johnston

    Schwinn ladies fenders

It was originally a BFG bike.
  21. Mark Johnston

    Schwinn ladies fenders

    Yeah, I’d be interested, thanks!
  22. Mark Johnston

    Schwinn ladies fenders

It’s a ‘41, the forks are original to the frame. Thanks!
  23. Mark Johnston

    Schwinn ladies fenders

Looking for a set of fenders for this bike. Does anyone make reproductions? Bicyclebones doesn’t have them.
  24. Mark Johnston

    1941 Autocycle

That looks sweet without the fenders! Nice job!

    Yamaha Moto Bike, the resurrection.

Good info! I’m sure mine need new seals, if I remember right they’re the same as the YZ-50 forks of the same era? Still available?
  26. Mark Johnston

    Yamaha Moto Bike, the resurrection.

If my memory is correct I believe the photo posted by Just Jeff is what you need. If it isn’t the original part, it will certainly do the job.
  27. Mark Johnston

    Yamaha Moto Bike, the resurrection.

Found these with a quick search. Not much help though.
  28. Mark Johnston

    Yamaha Moto Bike, the resurrection.

If I remember correctly you are right. Seems like they were like a washer with a threaded rod offset to clear the dropouts, with a stamped steel cap on the end of the dropouts to tighten against.
  29. Mark Johnston

    Yamaha Moto Bike, the resurrection.

My axle adjusters are missing also. Maybe the manual has photos or drawings to go off of? I see manuals on eBay from time to time.
  30. Mark Johnston

Let’s see those Clay (Brick Red) tires

Prewar Schwinn I put together for my sons girlfriend to ride. Looking for tank panels and another stem for it, then I’ll add BFG frame darts etc.

    Next in line

1948 Hudson. Cup holder added for cruising the swap meets. :)
  32. Mark Johnston

    Next in line

The blade forks need the threads repaired so he gets the springer. It’ll go good with his rat rod cars, I think he’ll be pleased. I’ll try to get photos with some of his cars when I drop it off. Edit: Still looking for a set of crusty tank panels for this bike.
  33. Mark Johnston

    Be mine B9

Didn’t mean to disregard the bike! Looking forward to seeing it when you’re done. I’d never seen that gif before, perfect for many situations! One of my favorite movie scenes. I’ve always wondered if it was a one shot deal, a well trained fly, or if it took many takes. :)
  34. Mark Johnston

    Be mine B9

Jack Elam! Once Upon a Time in The West! Good movie!
  35. Mark Johnston

    Yamaha Moto Bike, the resurrection.

That’s cool, I still have mine also. I believe I got it for Christmas in 1976. It’s been rode hard, thrashed the original wheels before the 70s were even over. :)
  36. Mark Johnston

Fresh find! All original 1950 hornet

Nice! Postwar straightbar Schwinns are my favorites! Still plenty of them around due to a lot of the prewar bikes being scrapped for the war effort.

    My ‘51 resto mod

I guess the deluxe guards have grown on me:) I think fenders, a headlight, and rack are in order now. I have 5 feather style guards in various conditions if anyone needs one.
  38. Mark Johnston

    My ‘51 resto mod

Just finished the paint on this repro guard from Bicyclebones to put on it.
  39. Mark Johnston

What bike did you work on today?

My buddy wanted a rat bike. I clear coated over the crust on the frame & mocked it up with parts I have. He wanted tall bars after I loaned him one of mine with stock bars & his big ole belly didn’t agree with them.:) Just waiting on wheels and a different stem to finish it up for him.
  40. Mark Johnston

    Porkchop spacer?

That’s what I thought. I have several others on bikes, just got one in missing the spacer this time.
  41. Mark Johnston

    Porkchop spacer?

Did it again? Strange. Inside diameter
  42. Mark Johnston

    Porkchop spacer?

Weird, I capitalized ID in my above post, but it shows i.d. even if I try to edit?
  43. Mark Johnston

    Porkchop spacer?

I need one or two of the spacer washers that go between the porkchop and cone nut to set up a hub. Seems to me that any 3/8” ID washers would work fine? Am I missing something?
  44. Mark Johnston

    Next in line

I decided to keep the springer for my next build. Painted the blade forks black, and clear coated the crusty frame today. My friend likes the frame as is. Going to let him decide on chrome or painted wheels. Almost everything is here to complete it, just my lazy ass in the way now.
  45. Mark Johnston

Wheel building class..How much would you pay?

When I was around 12 I laced & trued my first pair of wheels by looking at a completed wheel for reference when lacing them & trial & error to true them. I’ve always eyeballed the dish, even on motorcycle wheels. Had to offset a couple of motorcycle wheels when converting from drum to disc...
