Schwinn postwar NOS front brake shoes DRAGGING

Thanks folks; I carefully examined all, & the porkchop seems bent, putting a tremendous preload on the brake system; it may have been returned by a customer as a defective brake unit where they gave a customer an exchange way back in the day, & then threw the returned parts back into a box, &...

Schwinn postwar NOS front brake shoes DRAGGING

I bought an NOS forebrake in the (open) box from the fifties; for my '49 B6, & had it installed nicely on my S2 rim; everything is NOS but for some reason the brake shoes drag just hard enough that the bike is a misery to ride! (The adjustment is about as loose as it can get) The shoes have not...

Schwinn high flange brake shoes SOLD

Keith, please tell me what is meant by "high flange". Thanks, John

    Front drum brake question

I have a complete NOS forebrake assembly on my '49 B6 but the shoes seem a bit too large for the drum & they "drag" fairly hard; I've only ridden the bike a few blocks & it's too hard to pedal. Could give you the lining thickness measurement but that could only lead to possibly more problems(?)

    NOS Torrington 8-? pedals! Mint!

Thanks for such a 'helpful' & gracious comment! I have learned in my 65 years that nothing worthwhile is EVER "easily done". I will however, look into a price modification.

    NOS Torrington 8-? pedals! Mint!

Zeph, I guess I don't understand what you have said; am I leaving something out of the description, or do the photos appear insufficient? Let me know & I'll correct it. Thanks, John

    NOS Torrington 8-? pedals! Mint!

Here is an NOS pair of Torrington pedals, no markings on outer caps, but the inner caps say "Torrington", & "Made in USA". The blocks are 4 inches long, and the threaded ends are 1/2 inch diameter. These did not come to me with a package. Asking $150 shipped to CONUS. Paypal as friends. Thanks!

Sold *Updated* Parting Red 1958 Schwinn Hornet

Danny, I know it's a tiny request, but I need the 2 very large head screws that hold the rack & fender braces to the frame. I'll pay whatever you feel is fair. I cannot find this type of screw anywhere; I need both of them. Thanks!

Was there EVER a "Fireball" paint pattern B6????

Hi Beeler, I'm waiting for the springfork narrow truss rods to arrive, get them chromed, & then I'll start the build up; could take a while but after 25 years of the (mostly redone) pieces stored in bubble wrap, I'm excited to get started soon. NOS seat (B1), NOS forebrake unit (saved/kept the...

Want for tank horn button for Schwinn B6 etc.

Hi, I want a concave postwar cadmium plated horn button that is still fairly bright & not turned rusty or "black", to fit a tank mounted Delta horn. It has the "D" surrounded by a tringle in the center of button. NOS or nice used, for my '49 B6. Thanks!

Was there EVER a "Fireball" paint pattern B6????

Sounds good Shawn, & I do agree; it could possibly even be compared (almost) to putting Chevy side trim onto a Ford. Thank you for this email; I do plan to post photos once it gets some more pieces plated, & assembled. This bike is becoming "notorious"! Folks may actually want to see it! The...

Was there EVER a "Fireball" paint pattern B6????

I was hoping the swamp would not be dredged to bring that back up; but, please read that entire posting from the top, and you will see he retracted his offer in a "huff" because I politely chose not to buy it. It was at that point that things got testy. You have 8 years seniority in this club...

Was there EVER a "Fireball" paint pattern B6????

Thanks for throwing in that uptick at the end of your message; and I do appreciate Facts, even if painful. I have the agonizing choice now, of living with an incorrect paint pattern, or having it repainted correctly, in a pattern that I'm not as fond of....

Was there EVER a "Fireball" paint pattern B6????

I just realized, if you want to pay a lot extra, a car company will craft any type interior you want on a "one off" car, & it is still a factory one-off car, & "correct" within itself! I'm sure if I went to Chicago Schwinn back then, & special ordered this, still in their Schwinn paint patterns...

Was there EVER a "Fireball" paint pattern B6????

Looks like I've "blended" a DX with a B6. The painter owned a bike shop & had 40 years experience with vintage bikes, & never told me this was improper...guess he thought the "customer is always right"...

Help, need the 2 narrower springfork chrome rods, up to 1949+-

Hi Wes, I just paid for a pair that was actually listed on CABE under "parts for sale". After heated back & forth discussion from this "wanted" ad, I have learned it may be safer to avoid conflict if I just check what is already for sale, rather than advertising for a specific part that I'm...

Was there EVER a "Fireball" paint pattern B6????

I bought a '49 cantilever 26" frame (to build a B6) & had the bike painted with the "Comet" or "Fireball" paint pattern, & loaded it up with factory accessories, and with painted cream S2 wheels & red & cream fenders with streamlined headlight. It looks GREAT, BUT, tell me this was possible to...

Help, need the 2 narrower springfork chrome rods, up to 1949+-

Thank you sincerely to the good people of "peaceful groundedness"! I did not join (2 days ago) to create any sort of chaos! I'm fully willing to admit I'm a persnickety old man! I can fearlessly look into the mirror & admit it! I did not come here to disrupt anyone, or claim to be perfect, even...

Help, need the 2 narrower springfork chrome rods, up to 1949+-

Is this how people treat each other, & me, as a self critical, humble, new member, who loves his bike, on this site??? Should the word "SHAME" come into play? Is this a forum of mutual respect, or HOSTILITY? Am I to feel ashamed for not accepting the first offer that comes, for an item. written...

Sold Schwinn post war springer truss rods 26"

Hello, I'll take them if they are undented & smooth enough to be replateable & will plate nicely. These are the 3/8 inch diameter, correct? Let me know, I need them. Thanks! John

Help, need the 2 narrower springfork chrome rods, up to 1949+-

Thank you folks, I'm self critical/objective enough to know that this will REALLY make me look "out there" & impossible to please, but I was hoping for replateable ones for around $50 that I can take to my favorite triple chrome plater in Michigan.because I love his work, & I want to build (what...

Help, need the 2 narrower springfork chrome rods, up to 1949+-

Thanks Mike, but they are the wider ones, & they are REPROS. I'm not joking when I chose my "handle" CABE name, "NO REPROS PLEASE"! And Dave, thank you also but the originality would be gone if i made my own from an alien metal compared to the OEM. All I want is a nice used pair of OEM. Am...

Help, need the 2 narrower springfork chrome rods, up to 1949+-

I have a 26 inch cantilever '49 B6 & it takes the narrower (prewar/postwar up to about 1949) tubular chrome rods that attach to the front axle studs, that work with the spring fork. A straight, undented, replateable pair is all I need to pretty much complete the bike. Let me know if you have a...

    NEED I.D. parts help for a 1949 B6

Hi everyone, I just joined CABE today; I guess I'm just a total originality "snob", restoring a '49 Schwinn cantilever 26 inch B6, and am asking kind members to help with several questions: 1): Does the bike (correctly) use Torrington #10 pedals, or the Schwinn deluxe '50's type pedals? 2)...
