What do you recommend for long-term prewar bike storage?
Hang the bikes by the front rim from a hook? Or turn the handlebars and store them side-by-side on the ground?
Space is tightening in my basement (I have a dehumidifier), I also don't want to accidentally damage the forks.
A friend of mine found this in a barn–an August 1948 Ladies Schwinn B307 Hollywood. He's asked me to help him sell it to because he needs the space.
Local pickup only. I'm not interested in disassembling. I think that's part of the bike's untouched beauty. I'm letting the buyer decide and...
A friend of mine actually found this crusty specimen in a barn–an August 1948 Ladies Schwinn B307 Hollywood. He's asked me to help him sell it to because he needs the space.
I'm not a Schwinn guy, so I'm looking for input on a fair selling price. Someone may see it as a great project. Someone...
Barn-fresh ladies Schwinn found by a friend of mine. I’m not a Schwinn guy, so I’m asking for help identifying it.
Pics and serial number posted below.
Picked up this 1929(?) Elgin Cardinal in Ann Arbor. Happy to say it's on the road again, thanks to these killer wheels built and painted by @JimRoy. (@New Mexico Brant yes, I still have the original wheels!)
"Do you reach out to other collectors regulalry or are you just waiting for something to pop up here or on Ebay?" The latter. I haven't developed those networks yet.
"Nice bikes and parts change hands regularly just not out in the open." This is what I'm blind to.
"but rather the state of the...
Just for kicks I'm putting this out there. I'm still fairly new to the hobby ~2 years. My collection is relatively small. What occasionally dampens my enthusiasm with the hobby is the stockpiling and hoarding of quality bikes and parts I've seen. Typically when the supply of something is low...
I just went to look at it. Since it wasn’t as complete as I had hoped, I passed.
I’m not into this bike enough to start tracking down parts and turning it into a project. Too many other bikes I’d rather lose money on [emoji6]

Coming to Ann Arbor... Looking for options for mid-30’s Elgin 28 inch clincher wheelset.
The current bike already has 28" wood clad wheels. My goal is to replace them with 28" non-wood clad wheels to make it rider.
I keep coming back to this bike. It's really clean. Haven't bought a middle weight yet. I keep wondering if the $200 asking is high or not.

Thanks for your reply. I'm so new to these bikes, I'm not sure about the JC Higgins vs. Sears '63 vs. '64 yet. Maybe someone else will chime in who knows for sure.
I found this Flightliner not too far from my house. Original owner says its a 1964 Sears Flightliner, though I believe 1963 was the last year for them.
I'm new to these but it looks really clean. I'm seeing it tomorrow or Thursday. What do you think is a fair price for this one?
Gorgeous. I could stare at this all day. I gave a similar Colson an OA Bath last summer which revealed some bare metal. I'm really tempted to touch up those areas with your solution.
That’s actually interesting...is that true that the rust from rusty bikes spreads to the clean bikes? I just rearranged my basement and put all my bikes close together, clean and rusty.

That leather is all @bobcycles. It was missing when I got it. We talked about what I was going for, and he restored/distressed it at the same time like a master SFX artist. Below are pics. (I also serviced the hubs, added NOS torpedo grips, replaced the broken Torrington deco stem with a...
I recently acquired a ‘35 Elgin Oriole and it came with this rack. Probably an aftermarket, but I can’t say for sure.
Any insight?

I have a matching one if you’re interested. I liked the patina, but it’s easily removable. No brackets and a small tear(?) on the line. See pic. Otherwise it matches if you want a pair.

I need a new chain adjuster screw. I'm checking ebay and brands are specified with the listings. Are they pretty standard, or do they vary from brand to brand? (Maybe in the head style?)
This pair looks good to me, but my need is for a Colson...
