What do you recommend for long-term prewar bike storage?
Hang the bikes by the front rim from a hook? Or turn the handlebars and store them side-by-side on the ground?
Space is tightening in my basement (I have a dehumidifier), I also don't want to accidentally damage the forks.
A friend of mine found this in a barn–an August 1948 Ladies Schwinn B307 Hollywood. He's asked me to help him sell it to because he needs the space.
Local pickup only. I'm not interested in disassembling. I think that's part of the bike's untouched beauty. I'm letting the buyer decide and...
A friend of mine actually found this crusty specimen in a barn–an August 1948 Ladies Schwinn B307 Hollywood. He's asked me to help him sell it to because he needs the space.
I'm not a Schwinn guy, so I'm looking for input on a fair selling price. Someone may see it as a great project. Someone...
Barn-fresh ladies Schwinn found by a friend of mine. I’m not a Schwinn guy, so I’m asking for help identifying it.
Pics and serial number posted below.
Picked up this 1929(?) Elgin Cardinal in Ann Arbor. Happy to say it's on the road again, thanks to these killer wheels built and painted by @JimRoy. (@New Mexico Brant yes, I still have the original wheels!)
Coming to Ann Arbor... Looking for options for mid-30’s Elgin 28 inch clincher wheelset.
The current bike already has 28" wood clad wheels. My goal is to replace them with 28" non-wood clad wheels to make it rider.
I keep coming back to this bike. It's really clean. Haven't bought a middle weight yet. I keep wondering if the $200 asking is high or not.

I found this Flightliner not too far from my house. Original owner says its a 1964 Sears Flightliner, though I believe 1963 was the last year for them.
I'm new to these but it looks really clean. I'm seeing it tomorrow or Thursday. What do you think is a fair price for this one?
I recently acquired a ‘35 Elgin Oriole and it came with this rack. Probably an aftermarket, but I can’t say for sure.
Any insight?

Posted in my local Facebook Marketplace. He's looking to buy.

I need a new chain adjuster screw. I'm checking ebay and brands are specified with the listings. Are they pretty standard, or do they vary from brand to brand? (Maybe in the head style?)
This pair looks good to me, but my need is for a Colson...
I just bought a 35 Elgin Oriole, but the Torrington Deco stem broke during disassembly for shipping.
I need to replace the stem, but would prefer something stronger.
Does anyone have stem recommendations that would be appropriate for a 35 Elgin Oriole? I don't want people pointing at it...
(There could really be a dedicated thread just for identifying bikes)
I just bought this men's Elgin and need help identifying the year.
My best guess is a 1935 Westfield Oriole?
The serial number is N88084.
One distinctive feature is the nicely scripted Elgin logo on the bottom bar.
There's...
Local Facebook listing yesterday for $120. Of course I asked to come by for it today. Seller decides she "put an incorrect price on the bike before" and it's suddenly $1200.
I've completely disassembled my Colson Snap Tank.
I'm wondering if these brake disks are still good, or should they be replaced?
Picture 1 is side one. Picture 2 is side two.
(Too hard to tell?)
I'm headed to Memory Lane next week. Looking for hitch-mount bike rack recommendations–for tank bikes. (Or is it better to just remove them first? ) It would be nice to carry ladies bike too.
I already own a Saris Bones 4 bike carrier (for my old car). Now that I have a hitch, wondering what...
I'm very new to the hobby and I'm learning more every day.
I've been reading references to how this hobby was in the 80s and 90s, and that prices were much higher then.
Could someone give me a little background on this? (I'm sure most of you guys were around for it.) Was it much bigger or...
My car friend has this ladies Schwinn hanging in his garage he actually got from a barn.
I don't know much about Schwinns, but it might be a Phantom? 1950?
He can't seem to locate the serial number. Too much rust maybe.
He's asking if it's worth restoring it. He's not sure if it's worth it. I...
A month ago I bought this 1936(?) Westfield-built Elgin from an older gentleman with a cane. He'd had it for decades and never got around to fixing it up. Here are the before/afters of its rustoration. Everything is the same, with the exception of the drop stand, new grips and tires, and...
My recently acquired Elgin had a nice Delta Torpedo Headlight attached. It was all rusted inside and not working. I was already shopping the Cabe and eBay for a replacement.
I had a pool of Evaporust going, figured it's toast anyway, so in the name of science, why not give it a shot?
I...
I'm starting work on my third Elgin.
I opened the attached the Delta Light and found a surprise inside–its original diagram. It's super rusted inside as you can see.
Thought it would be fun to share.
Great day–just picked up this really nice Ladies Elgin. Seller was cleaning out his mother's house. I believe it's a '39 or '41–can anyone verify? (1939 Girls Deluxe?)
I think my to do list is:
•Wipe down
•Get new tires (are those original rims?)
•Remove the added headlight
•Get the Delta...
Hi I'm fairly new to collecting and definitely new to Schwinns. This will be my third bike.
I'm picking up this bike tomorrow and trying to determine if its a 1941 DX, a 1950-something Hornet, or what?
These catalog images I found are from different years.
Any help is appreciated!
I'm working on my first restoration ('36 Elgin). I've WD40/0000 Steel Wooled the frame, but haven't used polishing compound yet.
I'm looking for guidance on how to approach areas like these where the paint has worn away to the undercoat, and areas where the paint is chipped down to bare metal...
Is anyone familiar with this book? I just found it on Amazon, with a publication date of October 31, 2017. Vintage is a nebulous term, so I'm wondering how far back this book goes.
Vintage Bicycles: How to Find and Restore Old Cycles...
I'm doing my first fix-up/restoration.
My fenders are chrome colored, but a little dented here and there with some spray paint.
Also, my rims are super rusted.
I'm planning to soak the rims in Evaporust.
I also see new rims and fenders for sale all the time.
My question on the fenders (and...
