Sky Blue is gorgeous!
Provide a clear pic of that license plate. Those are cool.
More photos of Both sides please.
Is the seat Original?
Also is that a Blue Band Overdrive?
Thanks for sharing one of the coolest Stingrays built (short frame Super Deluxe).
Hi John,
Have any shirts with that Red ‘64 Super Deluxe?
Im thinking about getting a t-shirt for my wife, but she demands 100% cotton.
What selection would I choose (ash, heather, etc. ?) that has the least fake polyester.
This is the shirt I have in mind because I have this bike and it’s her...
The other side of the above ‘63 Stingrays.
The RH side (chain guard) is the most important side of a bicycle, but the other side LH needs to be viewed also to determine overall condition.
I wish others would post up close photos of the other side when showing their bikes.
I looked at your other thread over on Schwinn Bicycles and there are some good suggestions on cleaning.
Beware there are two areas to be very careful with, the white screens on the chain guard and fork darts.
These will rub off with and kind of cleaner wax.
The top tube Schwinn decal will be...
Geez, here HE goes again. I appreciate your dedication to the bicycle hobby, but leave the horse alone.
All it takes is for one person to ask how to date a bike (month / year etc.) and the thread takes off.
Speaking only about the early Schwinn Stingrays here.
Do you really think all those...
Exactly.
Thanks for posting Coyote as I have had that literature for decades.
Schwinn did not randomly reach into a barrel for a rear dropout when welding up a Stingray frame.
There was a purpose when building these Schwinn Quality bikes.
As shown above they were assembled in groups, therefore...
Jahmeer,
Congratulations on a beautiful Survivor Fastback.
Thanks for taking up close photos instead of the 20 footers you typically see on this site.
Paint looks amazing.
I love that dealer sticker.
Hi Tom,
I believe you posted this 1+5 Lime caliper fork before.
The indentation at the bottom looks different from all the others I’ve seen on the 2 speed Overdrive Blue Bands that only came on the Stingrays as a New option for the ‘65 model year.
It‘s obviously a different stamp.
Maybe it’s...
Not many Super Deluxe Stingrays exist that are still in their complete Original form.
August 1964 would be the earliest S/D based on this Schwinn Reporter article.
I have about 18 Original Super Deluxe bikes in my files ranging from Aug. ‘64 through Nov. 1966.
Below is an H4 Sky Blue S/D.
When talking “Cap” bow pedals there are two styles used on the Stingray.
Large Cap = 64-65.
Small Cap = 66-67.
Bow pedals without a cap were used on the Krate bikes, 68-70.
For anyone needing a more accurate information pertaining to when the first Black Rear SLIK appeared.
Black Rear SLIK tire came out for the “1964“ model year, not ‘65.
As shown in an article on the front cover of the August 1964 Schwinn Reporter, this Black Slik was being installed on many 1964...
I’m needing a LH Bow Pedal that was used on the 64-65 Super Deluxe Stingray.
This pedal was also used on the middle weight Schwinn‘s as well.
Hoping to purchase a LH in similar condition as the sample I show.
Please message me if you can help.
Thank you.
Nuts and Washers for securing the strut to the rear axle.
There is a proper “factory” method of installation.
The thick washer has a serrated side that goes against the frame first, then the strut, next the thin flat washer and finally the nut with its molded shoulder against the washer.
Stimsonite reflectors for J38 Standard (small) and J39 Deluxe (large).
Notice the factory packaging shows the square end bracket, but the enclosed bracket is the rounded version.
63-64 Reflector Brackets.
The majority of 1963 brackets had square ends at least into L3 Nov. 63.
Somewhere in early 1964 these brackets now had rounded ends with a very small nub on the point.
If you ever try installing the early square end brackets you’ll know they are very sharp consequently...
1963 - 64 Square Back Strut related hardware.
Q bolts
Reflector brackets
Reflectors
Axle nuts, washers
Most early Stingray enthusiasts know the following information, but some are still learning.
The bolts (2) that secure the Stingray seat to the chrome strut are marked with a Q in the center...
Not only is that “high quality“ Schwinn chrome looking good but it looks to have its Original dated front Superior tire dated 10 1 = Oct. 71.
The rear tire should be a RWL Slik.
Opinions vary.
I’ve been strictly into the Schwinn Stingrays for almost 30 years. Buying, selling, collecting and heavy research.
Stingray Seat Struts - Factory installed in the following order.
The non-crimp square back strut was used for all of 1963 and into E4 (May 64).
The much stronger...
Unpacking a 1964 NOS Persons Leopard Polo Seat with Strut.
The packaging of these seats was unique with the heavy folded cardboard inside at each end to limit the movement of contents.
This accessory seat which sold over the counter came with a Persons seat strut using a different shorter...
Great vintage photos!
Is there a reason why the photos are stretched?
Thanks for sharing.
Hey ….. Polo seats are meant for one rider, not two ….. LOL 😂
Note on the above ‘67 Tufted Saddle.
A very knowledgeable Stingray collector just advised me (Thank you Joe) that it needs to be mentioned this ‘67 seat is the Deluxe model with the ribbing.
We don’t want to confuse anyone.
Thanks, Happy New Year.
More 65-67 Stingray seat information.
Here is a very nice factory Original 1967 Stingray tufted “Silver Glow” saddle with one small nick at the back.
It has the correct tag, rivets and bottom pan with the reflector tab.
This seat is basically a one year seat and is typically called the...
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all the Bicycle hobbyist on this wonderful CABE site.
As always a shout out to the Figatner family as their late Great husband and father Bill “Minty Boxy” Figatner was a one of a kind personality that absolutely loved the Stingray bicycles.
On Dec. 29...
Good morning Schwinntramp,
Let’s get back to bicycles.
How bout you post some photos of the LEFT SIDE of your new ‘64 Lime toy since we have all seen numerous of the RH Side.
While your at it a few clear photos of the top tube, fork and serial code would be nice.
Thank you!
