I weighed a few of mine and this is the result. All were weighed without batteries installed. There were to many bikes to move to get to the Bluebird.
1950 Black Phantom = 56 lbs
1950 Red Phantom = 57 lbs
1986 Columbia 5 Star = 56 lbs
1958 Western Flyer X53 = 57 lbs
1949 Schwinn B6 = 55 lbs...
I was actually speaking in more general terms. I am no expert and should have said "correct parts." The correct rear reflector on the rear fender, the grips, the pedals, etc. Nothing that breaks the bank or has to be done ASAP. My suggestion on the seat is to ride it and see if you like it. If...
1941 Westfield Custom DeLuxe Motobike - Model F64TX. Serial # F93052 / BB Code: H4 (April 1941)
Has a Comet badge. Wheels are not original to the bike. I have the original pedals but when riding I often take them off and use a new pair to save wear on the originals.
Thank you @Mercian for this list. I have 3 Westfield built pre-war bikes and I will post their info.
First is a girl's 1936 Elgin. Serial # A249298 / BB Code: C11 (Nov 1936). The rear hub is Morrow but I don't see any other script stamped on it other than it's name. I think the chainring is...
I think I may have that same bike now. At least I have one very similar. I have it wrapped up until I can get it repainted. It's missing the guts for the light though. I used goof-off to try and see the serial number and the paint just wiped off. Took more off than I intended. Serial # C63835
I have a '95 as well and I love it. It rides great and looks great. I also have a 1950 Black Phantom that I love to ride. No matter the year they are great bikes. GLWS
Expecting rain tomorrow so I took my weekly ride to Sonic a day early. After making a few adjustment I wanted to give the Patina-Bird a test ride. I may take it out for a much longer ride this weekend.
I was doing some reading on this and came across 2 articles that said Murray began building bikes for Elgin in 1938. One stated that they used existing Elgin designs before developing their own. It is probable that both Westfield and Murray were both both building bikes for Elgin from '38 until...
It looks like a Westfield built Elgin to me. From the Elgins I have seen the mid and late 30s bikes were Westfield built and about 1940 they switched to Murray. Of my own bikes my '36 Elgin is definitely Westfield built and my '40/'41 Elgin is all Murray. Someone with more more knowledge and...
That's a beauty @jchicago. I like the bike so I would be likely to spend to much for it. haha. A repainted one was up for sale for $200 a while back. Some original girl versions were in the $250 range which may be over priced. I would guess $300-400 might be fair but like I said if I like...
After getting the hand brake back together and working properly I took the ‘50 Black Phantom for a ride around the neighborhood. After 69 years it still rides great.
Day 2 in the wild. Went for a ride early this morning and it lasted way longer than I planned. I kept findingtrails to explore. My legs are officially jello now.
