  1. Cranky Chain Cycles

    Monark Roadster dating

Leon, Thanks so much. Hopefully our paths cross at some point, meeting the 'King of the Classics' is on my bucket list. Do you still have the 1936 Dayton Safety Streamline?

    Monark Roadster dating

Searches using the model and serial number have come up empty. I figure it's a late 50s model, possibly '57. Other threads suggest confusion about the serial numbers. So far the only missing or incorrect items are the torch, reflector, tires and the Schwinn grips. Where's a good place to find...

    ‘64 Jaguar Sweetheart Chainring

I picked this up yesterday. Is this an original chainring? Other than that it seems everything else is original.

Paint it or leave it: '56 Corvette

A Jaguar that's been in my repair stand for some time. I had planned on working on the Corvette this Winter but most of my off time has been spent getting myself in shape (long hours on Zwift) for the gravel racing season. Time to shed some pounds and get my gravel bike prepped.

    1968 AMF Roadmaster Jet Pilot

  7. Cranky Chain Cycles

Sold Unrestored Chicago Schwinns––Jaguar, Corvette, two Fleets, Tiger

Prices reduced! These four middleweights, all unrestored, need a new home. My original plan was to overhaul or restore them, but priorities have changed. Prices are negotiable. Fleets sold as a pair. Corvette NFS. Local pickup only. 1959 Jaguar Mark IV. 3-speed. $600 –– Available 1956...

Restored His & Hers Columbia Bikes

The red Jet Rider, a 1960 tank bike, is the perfect example of a high-end restoration. No corners were cut. Everything works. The blue 1954 Campus Queen was also fully restored. Some bikes are like timeless pieces of art. Some will say this without any substance, whereas I've entered the Jet...

    Gus Salmon decals

atencioee I appreciate your input. Bicycle Bones has a good selection but none were an exact match. It’s very frustrating because I was getting conflicting information from another mechanic, my father-in-law, I’m working with versus what Gus was telling me. My FIL is very old school and was...

    Gus Salmon decals

This is the only place. I tried to place an order last Tuesday, 5 days ago. No need to exaggerate. Not seeds of hate, just looking for your reasoning of why you didn't want to do business. I was ready to give you credit card info because I liked your product and seemed highly regarded. Yes, I...

    Gus Salmon decals

Wish I could say the same. He’s the first vendor I’ve dealt with that was unprofessional. Going back to Crawfords who did the decals for the Columbia. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Gus Salmon decals

Has anyone else had a bad experience with Gus Salmon? According to him all he wants to do is work with a 'very selected group of paint shops and friends'. I've been customizing bikes for three years and needed custom decals for a Le Tour I'm restoring. At first he was helpful. He answered my...

    $16,500—for a Stingray?!

Too bad I don’t care for muscle bikes. I had one when I was a kid and hated that i couldn’t jump or corner like the bmx bikes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    $16,500—for a Stingray?!

Damn. What am I missing? I know Stingrays are valuable but $16,500? What’s a realistic price for a ‘65? https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheSchwinnForum/permalink/3219128408162854/?sale_post_id=3219128408162854 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Atom Bte SGDG freewheel removal tool

Can someone shed some light on the Atom Bte SGDG freewheel removal tool? It took a stop at my LBS to have the freewheel removed on my Le Tour so I could clean it and overhaul the hub. Are there multiple variations? Different spline counts? All I come up with when I search are ads. None of the...

    Is Sekine worth fixing up?

Even though I could probably get it for under $50 it doesn’t bode well that I’m trying to talk myself into it. However, I sold a $20 Hercules for $225 so obscurity doesn’t matter too much. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  28. Cranky Chain Cycles

    Is Sekine worth fixing up?

The owner of this Sekine seems motivated to sell. However, I don’t know if I can overhaul and flip it. If it were a Schwinn I would have bought it weeks ago. I’ve heard good things about them but I don’t know if I can convince buyers that a Canadian-made Japanese early 70s import is worth...

    AMF Roadmaster Jet Pilot

No idea. I picked it up from a LBS yesterday. I parted out three different rims to make something work with the fork and tires. This evolved into a Rat Rod project so i wasn’t concerned about period correct, just needed it running. The headlight is the only remaining item to workout. The guts...

    Paramount/Voyageur parts?

I've done a lot of research on this bike. Initially I thought the red bar tape was OEM. Turns out its Italian from Red Ribbon. Probably aftermarket. Some bikes online have red, some black. Schwinn catalog doesn't elaborate. Any idea what OEM color tape was? Finding a NOS 6-speed chain is damn...

    Paramount/Voyageur parts?

At first I was determined to find NOS Schwinn. I’ll be content with any leather tape that matches. I have red cork tape but it feels too cheap for this project. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  37. Cranky Chain Cycles

    Paramount/Voyageur parts?

The ‘82 Voyageur 11.8 I picked up recently is in need of red bar tape and derailleur cable housing. I called the local Schwinn shop and Waterford, neither has any. eBay only has translucent tape. From what I’ve read this model originally had a gold freewheel and chain. Looking closer, what i...

’88 Schwinn World Sport, before & after overhaul

Overhauled World Sport. It went from a sickly looking commuter to a wicked fast ride. It was stripped to the frame, cleaned, polished, the works. Then the customizing began. JC Higgins 10-speed

    Degreaser for Ultrasonic

I'm using 50/5O SG and tap water. It takes a good hour of cooking and scrubbing to get the desired results. Love it. I deep clean everything now. I see people advertising their bikes as 'restored' online and see the crappy job they did cleaning and polishing it. To most people restore means to...

    Sears spaceliner?

Are you leaving it as-is or cleaning it up? If you go the oxy route, hit me up, I restored a girls one 2 years ago. The clearcoat is a bitch to remove to clean the chrome.

ISO Schwinn cable housing in bulk

ISO cable housing, for brakes and derailleurs in vintage gray. Who makes housing in bulk? Has anyone tried Jagwire in Ice Gray, and if so how close is the color to NOS gray? I'd like to start with 10m or so. No one carries it locally.
  45. Cranky Chain Cycles

    Degreaser for Ultrasonic

Use Simple Green. It's disposable. I made the mistake of taking my used degreaser and mineral spirits to auto parts store to recycle and was told to go pound sand. They only accept oil. SG works as well as the commercial degreaser and I can flush it down the drain.
