    Show your Davis built bicycles

Patric, I more took it as Excelsior bought bicycle manufacturing equipment from Huffman not Davis. I'd like to know how much the Huffman's were involved with Davis by 1922, it at all. What I gathered from the articles is that Huffman incorporated a company that was thought to be a new bicycle...

    Show your Davis built bicycles

Found this interesting. Crazy to think that the Davis company was doing so well in 1922 but would be liquidated in less than two years. From September 7 1922 of motorcycle and bicycle illustrated.

Ok boys and girls! This isn't making any sense to me at all now. I hope someone can explain this one!! @chitown post an article he found stating Excelsior buys out Huffman manufacturing in August 1922. I just found and article from July 1922 from motorcycle and bicycle illustrated talking about...

Looks as though the plant wasn't sold until 1924. I don't understand why the article @chitown presented states that Excelsior absorbed the Huffman manufacturing company and Not Davis! Was Huffman no longer affiliated with Davis by 1922? When was Huffman manufacturing started?? Anyone know???

    Show your Davis built bicycles

I thought Davis wasn't totally liquidated until 1924? No I do not have any documentation on a Shelby made Davis? But it is widely speculated that Shelby was one of the many companies that purchased part of Davis during its liquidation. So I've always been under the assumption that Davis's...

Not understanding. What wrenches or who's spokes? It looks like, from this article, that this was all taking part around the time that the Davis Sewing machine company was about to be liquidated anyway. The Huffman's were getting into manufacturing bicycle components and industrial machine...

Need late 40's Huffman drive side Crank Cone Nut

I'm needing an inner drive side Huffman crank cone nut like the one pictured below but without the bearing grove worn in it. :grinning: It's out of a 47 Dayton. I'd be interested in a complete Huffman crank assembly if it has good chrome with little to no rust, otherwise I just need the...

And here are things I noticed that are different between the two frames I overlaid the two frames to get a visual comparison. The light grey and maroon frame is my Davis frame. You can see the difference in seat mast angle and seat stay length and angle. You can also see the head tube lengths...

    Show your Davis built bicycles

I need help with identification of a frame that belongs to my friend @Foxclassics. It's a bit rusty but I think it can be salvaged. I believe it to be either a Davis or maybe Shelby built bike after they purchased the Davis remains. Here's the subject at hand. I cleaned off the Bottom...

    The Wright Brothers

From The Wright Brothers.org The Wright Special In addition to the "Van Cleve" and "St. Clair" models, some biographers have written that the Wright brothers also made a bicycle called a "Wright Special." Need help to I.D. crank

Drive pins are part of the crank. They do not appear to come off. A visible forge line can be seen on the center axis of the crank. The crank has been rifle drilled for oiling as well. I'm missing the lock nut for the left side.

    Need help to I.D. crank

Here's the crank in question. It's a one piece crank. The chain ring at a glance looks similar to a D&J or a Halladay but it's my understanding that those were 2 piece crank assemblies and the crank I have doesn't look the same. Any thoughts? Ideas? Just a note: I got this with a Hibbard's...

    The Wright Brothers

I asked this question in general discussion as well but thought I'd have a better chance getting it answered in this part of the forum. Quoted from shoe3 in General Discussion thread on Wright Brothers and WF Meyer. Phil said: "He also was granted use of the Wright Brothers namebadge that was...

    Wright Brothers and W.F.Meyers

I'm familiar with the St. Clair and Van Cleve names but this is the first I've heard mentioned the "Wright Special". Was this some sort of racing bike? Are there any photos of these machines? And did the Wright Brothers build these before WF Meyer purchased the rights to the names or were these...

I Would Like to Know ? Excelsior? EC Simmons ? Peerless ? Colson ?

The two Peerless bikes that I have , a 1908 and a 1914 appear to both be Davis built bikes. It is to my understanding that the 1908 model was the first year for the Sears Peerless name plate as per the 1914 Sears ad. ( see last pic ) I do not have a 1908 catalog but the 1910 and 1914 catalogs...

The bicycle community has lost a great man. He was a wealth of knowledge and a kind hearted soul. He was a true friend to all that knew him. He was one of my best friends. I'll miss you coach. And I'll never forget you. That's the last photo I got from Phil. He texted it to me Wednesday of...

Prayers for Phil Scott - shoe3

This is what I loved most about Phil! He would come over to my place and see one of my projects and before I knew it, he was super excited about it. Often he would be way more excited than I was. Then without me asking or telling me he was doing it he would start try to find the parts that...

    Welding repairs and fabrication

Of the things I commonly fix or repair are things like stripped pedal threads in old cranks. ( Most all have been TOC hard to find cranks. ) I machine an insert slug to size and drill the end of the crank arm out. I use a Bridgeport milling machine to drill the crank arm so keep it as square as...

    Welding repairs and fabrication

Yes. This is a TOC Jenkins frame I just aquired. The tubes in the triangle are a little worse for wear. The down tube had a section of new tubing cobbled in it that was the wrong size and was crudely welded. I believe the bike frame was also used to drive rail road spikes at one time by the...

    Look-a-like pedals?

I have left and right hand thread dies. I just bought a set of French thread Quills I'm going to take apart, machine the axles and cut new L&R 1/2-20 threads in them. I hate the thought of messing up a good original crank. I've also fixed early cranks that had been drilled and tapped to 9/16-18...

What brand hubs were most common on TOC to 1920 bikes?

That looks mint! Very nice! @2jakes It looks very similar to the hub on my Peerless. These old hubs are beautifully designed aren't they? Absolute works of art!

What brand hubs were most common on TOC to 1920 bikes?

I've attached a photo of my Morrow hub on my teen's Peerless. How can I tell if it's the correct hub for this era bike?

What brand hubs were most common on TOC to 1920 bikes?

Can you post some more photos of your Marrow Hub @2jakes ? It looms like the same hub that's on my teen's Peerless. I thought someone had updated the hubs on my bike at some point in its existence.
