By the looks of the bend on the middle tube, it looks like it took a really hard hit to the front end. That's what caused the headtube angle to be so far out of whack. Instead of pulling or jacking things back in position, they just brazed the frame cracks and called it a day.
I recently used Bikeflights for the first time... The box sat in a hub for several days due to weather, then once it got to the destination hub they put it on the truck for delivery, but it didnt get delivered, same thing happened for two more days... on the truck, but never delivered. all in...
Oh.. a 41, sweet!
I just plugged the serial number in and it came back saying it was a 2/25/1953
I'm not familiar with Schwinn at all when it comes to dating.
Thanks!
I'll be picking this up next weekend, from the serial number it appears to be built in February 1953.
Any idea what model it is? What's wrong and what's right? Sorry... this is the only pics I have until I go pick it up.
Am I seeing chain adjusters in the rear dropouts? I'm not that familiar...
Btw.. the fireplace wasnt too hard to build, I got my plans from www.backyardflare.com they have many styles of outdoor fireplaces that can be owner built, plans are only $40 and I think right now they are running a half price sale on several designs.
I think I only have $1200-1500 in it total...
Your only seeing part of the patio... 1400 SF total, this spring I will be finishing the firepit area, plus the outdoor grilling area which wont be fancy... just my grill and smoker and I'll be building a rolling island work space. Then comes the landscaping... 3 years start to finish working on...
I'll have to try and dig up some pics, I'm not very good at organizing and storing photos, I know I have taken pics of various projects over the years... but finding them is another story.
Here is a few I found on my phone, outdoor fireplace project, porch rebuild at my sons house, and a...
I can re-create the fork legs, but no way would I attempt to re-make a new crown with steer tube... thats beyond my abilities to just create that part from scratch. Besides... Its kinda the same thing as repairing what I already have if I just replace the one broke leg.
I can fabricate just...
The old repair was a piece of sheetmetal wrapped around the fork legs and soldered... not hot enough to mess with the temper.
Option 3 is not an option to me at all.
This fork (and bike) will be repaired and ridden... wont be a daily rider, but it will be ridden on occasion. I have no doubt it...
I have a broken Pierce cushion fork I will be repairing sometime in the near future.
I have a couple of ideas on how to fix it, but was wondering if anyone here has made the same repair, and what the outcome was?
My fork is broken where the aft most (long) leaf meets the crown, essentially it...
I didn't exactly "find" this last week, but this was a long term project I finished up over the weekend, a pair of vintage Altec 19's
Someone painted the cabinets black, I took these completely apart, stripped and refinished in tung oil, recovered the grills, made new solid oak bases instead of...
Update 2/20/19
I still have it, no deal has been made.
I did find out this is a 1902 bike. It has a New Departure Bell "The Witch" coaster hub, still works too !
Here are a few more pics, and yes the bottom of the gear cover has rusted out.
Interesting! So does this have a model # or name? Will that help date the bike?
Edit... I just found the info on this hub on the Corbin & New Departure hub dating project thread. First made in 1901, any idea when it was phased out?
Edit#2 Looking at the chart showing the different changes over...
Here's more pics of the rear hub, any ideas what it is? The brake arm reads:
Pierce
New Departure
Patented
But... the hub shell bears no resemblance to the model A. It looks more like a model D, but even then it's really not the same.
Yes, the bottom of the gear cover is rusted out... I think there is enough metal left I can re-create the bottom half. Amazingly enough, the gears still turn and the hub actually works!
Finally found the serial, looks like 94090, any help with dating it?
I noticed there is an entry on page one...

The story.... When this bike was advertised for sale, the original seat and sissy bar was laying on the ground in front of the bike, the seller also had a coppertone Stingray for sale, and the buyer for that bike got there before me and the seller GAVE him the seat from the Scrambler! I was sick...
76 Schwinn Scrambler, very nice 2nd year Scrambler survivor. Looks like it was barely ridden, pretty sure its 100% original (even the tires) but someone changed out the seat.
Has a few scuffs, paint chips, etc. But it dont look like it was ever abused.
Asking $350
Shipping extra, or willing...
Locomotion... you are 100% correct!!
Someone "soldered" on this bike, all the spots you mentioned are nothing more than lead. Propane torch and wire brush and it comes right off!
Good eye!
The ONLY thing stopping me, is too many projects, if I do take this on, it might be on the back burner...
If nobody buys it, I'm itching to dig into it. But I'll have plenty of questions first! I just dont want to mess anything up.
And yes... those bars are very strange, I think your right, someone hacked them up.
Officially for sale,
Early 1900's Pierce shaft drive cushioner, this one is a project.
Bad... Missing lots of paint and the nickle plating is pretty much gone, wrong seat, wrong front wheel. Fork has an older repair, will need a proper repair to be rideable. The worst of the rust seems to be...
This one recently followed me home, also has a type 3 badge, I haven't found the serial number yet but will keep looking. Amazingly everything still turns except one pedal, wheels are shot, I think the rear is original, the front must have been replaced at some point. Contemplating what I'm...
The 4th Annual Midwest Bicycle Swapmeet was held Sunday April the 21st, Typical Kansas springtime weather, it was high 60's with a good breeze, tomorrow its supposed to snow.
Very busy day, we pretty much filled the area, another year or two and we will be looking for a new venue. All in all...

Long shot, but... Im looking for the front position crank for my 38 Colson Tandem. Currently it has a generic crank.
There are several Colson Tandems that are local to me, and I noiticed they all have what appears to be a two piece crank in the front position. The left side crank arm appears...
Only a month away, looks like this year is gonna be our biggest yet! I know of guys coming from several states, and we also had a nice little writeup in Popular Mechanics magazine.
Still only $5 to sell. (yes even if you bring a semi-load)
Only have a couple of bikes to sell? put them in...
I bought a rough X-53 from Geech34 here awhile back... too rough to restore, Rat thing is kinda played out in my mind, think Im gonna break out the chopsaw on it just to see what I can come up with
might piss a few people off, but oh well... wouldnt be the first time!! :p
I think you are right... I noticed in the last pic something that looked like script, I moistened it just a bit and indeed it said Mesinger.
I think Im gonna go with Troxel saddles on the tandem, I already have a Men's Troxel on the way, just gotta find a matching Ladie's.
Thanks for the...
Got this on my Colson Tandem here awhile back, any idea what maker? or year? Ive been keeping a lookout for similar saddles but no luck. The wire brace between the two springs seems kind of odd, usually this is a thick metal brace. I also think Im gonna let it go... any idea on value?
thanks!!!
