How did they get these on?

I was able to get them off without cutting them or damaging my rims. I had already ordered the correct Kenda replacement tires, rim strips and tubes.

How did they get these on?

I had bought a nice ladies Collegiate some time ago with a flat rear tire. This morning I decided to replace the inner tube. I have to admit that the tires always looked a bit skinny to me. They were 37-590 tires. My tire levers were no help to me, I had to use two screw drivers. I can't figure...

    1961 Schwinn Collegiate

Thanks for posting this, I just hit the buy-it-now button and will be picking it up soon. My Granddaughter is also a Schwinn collector with a 75 Lil Chik, 1957 Spitfire and now this super nice Collegiate. I'll be cleaning it up and putting new tires & tubes on it.

Schwinn 1950s lightweight fenders - white w/ red stripes

It's just me, but I would slide a polished set of stainless steel fenders on her and just stand back and admire.

1960's Schwinn American De Luxe...got this today also

That sticker on the front fender declaring that the bike is 100% American made is also a plus, most are long gone.

    Dipping back in

W/W tires came in, seat also made it so I took it for a test ride. Very smooth! The search is on for a decent set of fenders. If anyone has a nice set of Spitfire Red & Cream fenders for a 26" middleweight, or a nice set of 26" chrome fenders please LMK.
  7. spitshineschwinn

    Are these not cool?

Who said they weren't coool?? They remind me of the BF Goodrich safety reflectors, and I would mount them low on a classic chrome or stainless fender!

    Dipping back in

Thanks for the offer - I've got several around here to try, most need paint stripped off or re-painted. I really need 26" ww S-7 tires, chrome or Spitfire red ladies fenders if anyone has some.
  9. spitshineschwinn

    Dipping back in

It's actually a 26", but it does look smaller. It came without fenders, so the hunt is on. A rear rack is something else I'm considering.

    Dipping back in

It's been quite some time since I took on a mild clean up and re-furbish on an old Schwinn, and this time a Lady caught my eye! I had been keeping my eye out for something with good bones to play with. My goal, now that I've settled on the candidate, is to trade my 26 yr. old granddaughter out...

    Biggest s7 tires

Somehow I missed this whole thread, thanks for posting it. I'm down to just one Schwinn middleweight and a lightweight wearing S-7s - both currently have the Kenda versions.
  12. spitshineschwinn

    Biggest s7 tires

Only S-7 tires will fit S-7 rims. For 26" S-7 rims the biggest tire is 26" X 2" X 1 3/4" made by Kenda, EBAY is a good source.

Can I vent for a second?

Never had it happen on a bike, but: many years ago I cut an old lady's grass just up the street from me. I can't say why I did it, I was cutting it at a bargain price so it wasn't the money. It was also 2 acres, so it took awhile with my Sears 12 horse. Shortly after I started cutting it I...

    1955 Schwinn Corvette

Nice early Corvette. I don't see any screws holding the rubber blocks on the pedals, so they are probably from a later bike. Not a big deal though. I also wouldn't spend time and money searching for an original seat - they were not good looking or comfortable seats at all. The rear reflector...

Look what rolled into my office this morning. Red Corvette

Very nice early Corvette, most of it will clean up nicely - there are some pits on some of the chrome that are now part of the bike. Patina! Your missing the rear reflector, best to place a wanted ad here rather than buy on Ebay.

1958 Schwinn American mens antique bicycle all Original

It can't be all original if it's missing the rear reflector. The grips are also not correct.

    1969 Fair Lady

What's the matter, everyone too busy to give some love to a nice Fair Lady? Well, I'll bite, especially since I have parted out my share of them and then some! It's how I funded my addiction when I got back into the vintage Schwinn hobby. This is a nice example, and I see no reason why it won't...

The rear reflector is incorrect. It's in really nice shape though - love the patina!

    24" X 2.125" Slik Tire

Thanks for the lead - now I know everything I need to know about Grace Slick's husband Gerald! I did google horse racing buggy and found what I was looking for.

    24" X 2.125" Slik Tire

There are none on Ebay - the closest is a 24" X 1 3/8" Slik for Manta Rays. I have even searched completed sales going back over a year with no luck.

Walmart Stingrays are back.. $125 free ship

I almost agree that these would make a fun and decent rider for a young person, except for the quality issue. You could put a good coat of wax on the entire bike and keep them indoors and you would still fight a losing battle with rust & corrosion.
  27. spitshineschwinn

    Schwinn Speedster

I think they were marketed to 11-12 year olds, and would be hard to ride for an adult. They do lend themselves quite nicely to a poor man's Manta Ray conversion though. As such I have several in my collection, most have been converted to 3 speed bikes.

WHAT YEAR IS MY SCHWINN LIL TIGER

The serial # on your lil tiger will be of no help in determining the year of your bike. However, the Schwinn head badge is date coded to the 313th day of 1979, making it sometime in Nov. of 79. If you feel the need to put fresh grease in the bottom bracket the year date will be on the crank, and...

    Schwinn Speedster

Schwinn made a 5 speed Speedster (and a 5 speed Breeze) for a couple of years in the late seventies. They were 24" wheeled bikes available in only two colors - Red & Blue.

    New purchase: Schwinn Corvette

Yes, you can call it a custom instead of Frankenbike. It has incorrect grips, gooseneck, front rack, Schwinn decal, pedals and the brake calipers look somewhat suspicious to me. I wouldn't be in a hurry to change the seat out, if it's a Mesinger it's much more comfortable than any of the black &...

    Corvette Stainless Steel Rear Fender

Pretty decent rear fender for an early 60's Corvette or Jaguar. Stainless steel, has a couple of small dents where someone was riding on a rear rack, has the tear drop reflector that was painted silver. $35. plus the ride.

    My first vintage Stingray

No reason not to be proud of your purchase, you got a good deal on the pair. The 5 speed can be a lot of fun riding around the neighborhood or taking to car shows and such.

    My first vintage Stingray

If you paid his asking price I would say you overpaid slightly. Hopefully you were able to negotiate down a bit. That having been said, they are nice looking bikes and 69 5 speed Stingrays are not exactly popping up for sale all over the place. The pristine paint & decals suggest a restoration...

    Schwinn Cruisers

Very nice bikes. Unfortunately, not a great deal of collector interest in Schwinn cruisers of this era - especially the girls model. My first classic. 1949 Schwinn B6

Very nice find, and the way most of us wish to find them - mostly original and un-restored! I have the exact same bike in a 1950 model. The fenders on mine were trashed beyond saving, so I opted for chrome replacements w/o the fender light. Mine also had the fore brake, but it was also missing...

What bike did you work on today?

Changed out the rear fender on my 58 Corvette. A lot more work than it seems like. The replacement fender had a few less dings on it, plus it also had a single hole to mount the correct reflector.

    Killer Lady Schwinn in Indy

I missed seeing the tension adjusters, so it is obviously pre war. Also the dog leg crank and early chain guard. Decal on tank appears to read "Majestic".
