This is a fun one.. i like finding the old rusty ones and spending time bringing them back and riding them with my kids. Always wanted a coppertone Panther and this one was perfect… a lot of work and a fine balance to not over restore and keep the patina.
Hi folks, I'm looking for the front axle for a 1966 Schwinn Panther, does anyone know the best place to source one from? It's 5 and a half inches long but I'm not sure of the diameter or thread pitch to ensure I get the right one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ben
1935 Schwinn B4 bicycle - complete.. project that I’m not going to get to for a while so decided to move on. I don’t see many of these come up and it will look great when built. $400 plus shipping - I’m in North New Jersey for collection.
My Colson rear steer tandem... bit of a work in progress still but I've managed to get some good miles with my daughter over the last few days of warm weather in New Jersey!
Hi there, I’m looking for a pair of these pedals for my 1966 Schwinn Panther. if anyone has a pair in good condition?

Still have a fair amount to do with this but couldn’t help sticking some old tires on it and trying out the rear steering! Works really well... going for the rat rod look..

So this has proved to be a big challenge so far... but I’m preserving and we’ll see how it turns out.
Basically everything has been either heavily rusted, or bent.
In the process of straightening the frame one of the joints has cracked so that needs re-brazing.. the front forks are bent back...
I'm tempted to give it a go with one of the Bernzomatix torches... given the original brazes were brass, should I try and repair with brass brazing or would silver solder be ok?
I'm currently restoring a 1930's Colson rear steer tandem and this one is fighting me all the way.. It's in pretty bad shape and I've been slowly working on it, but the front of the frame was bent from a crash and in the process of straightening one of the braze joints has cracked.
Does anyone...
Yep, every tandem I've owned (all two of them), have had bent front forks from prior accidents... I guess the extra weight and momentum of two people make a big difference here too. My Colson has a slight bend in the front frame too so it must have taken quite a whack.
So this is an old thread but it helped me a lot as I was having exactly the same problem removing the left crank arm on my Colson rear steer tandem.
I managed to eventually find a solution which was to place two pieces of 1’ angle iron each side of the arm (there was just enough space to slot...
That looks like a really interesting project.. I’ve been amazed at what can come back to life after evaporust baths or aluminum foil rubs if you’re patient.
The extra mechanical pieces on those tandems make them really interesting.

Hi folks, I was inspired the other day when I saw photos of a really nice Sky Blue 1967 Schwinn Typhoon.
Does anyone have a 26” Sky Blue 1966-67 Schwinn Typhoon for sale? Any condition considered.
Thanks,
Ben

Ah ok, thanks - how do you think the frame size compares to the middleweight 26" Schwinn frames? I think the bottom bracket is higher on these earlier frames which makes for a more cramped ride.
Hi folks - what do you think about this 1941 Roadmaster - it's for sale ~$650... looks mostly original to my untrained eye... is the price too much? what should I look out for here before I proceed... I'm familiar with 60's Schwinns but this is new territory for me. Thanks!
Hi,
I've got a 1968 Schwinn Twinn and I'm looking for a front axle with the cones and nuts. It has S-7 rims and the axel should be 5/16 diameter.. I believe the originals were 24tpi.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Ben
Thanks!
The only parts I replaced were the chain guard, tires and a front rack.. managed to save every other component!
