Thank you, Steve, for both the comments on my bicycle and for joining the forum as well. I was familiar with motorpace bicycling, but never figured mine was possibly used for that sport as well. Curious about the additional reinforcements and it makes sense to have more support than not when...
Awesome! Small world. I have many fond memories of that place. I wish I were still in Corpus Christi, as I would be down to create an antique bicycle club. Not too much of that down that way.
Not to get too far off topic here, but Mike, did you ever attend the Presidio-La Bahia event for the Fannin massacre? Your name sounds very familiar as well. I grew up participating in reenactments there with fellow reenacts. Its was a great time and I always make it a point to visit any time I...
On second though, I am incorrect. The Schwinn had fillet brazed top and down tubes at the head tube and TIG welded everywhere else. Also, the extra brace at the head tube/down tube junction is unusual. Possibly a KHS from about the same era (mid to late 80s).
The chainstay U-brakes are cool as...
Thanks, bicycle. That's what my plan is. Too many unknowns and mixed up parts. Plus, the whole thing just doesn't look quite right. I'm always down for a good project, but can put the $$ toward one of my current projects. Perhaps 1/5 of the cost of a Pierce Chain ring and three-piece cranks. LOL
I know the picture is sort of blurry. I am supposed to go look at this bike later today and potentially purchase it for $60. The gentleman on the phone said something about it being a 1947 Schwinn something-rather. I does have the lines, but the dropouts are like nothing I have seen before. Are...
The bottom of the badge looks connected to a sort of banner to me too. I’ve looked all over for a similar badge shape but have come up short. To me, the Fox head badge looks the closest. The fork looks similar to a fork I saw on an earlier Queen City bicycle that was posted here on the CABE. The...
Thanks for the info! I am going to start stripping her down this weekend. Shawn, a rattle can job is what I was thinking too. I think it’ll make a nice rider for someone. Plus, a little practice for the next bike down the road. I’ll post some status photos as I go.
I saved this bike today while looking at another bike. Best I could figure from my research, it is a mid-30s Hawthorne. The headbadge is missing. Can anyone tell me if this is correct, and if there is anything missing from the bike. This will be one a good project and restoration.
Thank you for the great insight, Pierce! You have a drop-dead gorgeous bicycle there! The more I look at this bike, the more it captures my imagination. I only wish it could speak! I will stay away from OA to preserve the paint color, but spot polishing would do more harm than good I believe. In...
Excellent spot! They do look just like this, only grubbier. Much grubbier. I will take a closer look at the house this evening and see if I can spot a mark. Thank you for the information!

Thank you for all of the wonderful insight. I have been researching Pierce bicycles of this era (and many others) and I have become fascinated. Admittedly, I was none-too-aware if the fever-pitch popularity of six day races, road racing, pace-setting, and all the other cool races from that era...
Thank you for the replies. Ultimately, it would be cool to track down which period cyclist used this bike. Judging by the mid-matched parts, I doubt it was anyone of any significance and most likely one of the tens of thousands of amateur riders that competed at that era. If I can’t track it...
Hello fellow enthusiasts. I am reaching out in hopes of some advice. I recently purchased this Pierce Racer off CL locally. Not knowing much about this era of bikes, I spoke with the seller, did a little research and pulled the trigger. I picked up the bike the next day and was able to finally...
Sorry, I wasn’t aware of anything like that. I went and saw it on Thursday after he posted it on CL and also bought it Friday morning. I don’t deal with eBay much these days because I too have had many of these types of thing happen.
Picked up this teens era Piece Racer on Friday. Buffalo made. It’s loaded with cool antique upgrades including a 1920s Bianchi crankset, Brooks saddle (I believe it is a B19), Major Taylor style handlebar stem and bars, and mounts for a frame-mounted pump. Still doing my research on the unusual...
Hello all,
New here to the forum and wanted to share this unusual Pierce Racer I recently picked up off CL locally. Serial Number: 195749. It has a The Pierce Cycle Co. Buffalo, NY badge. It looks to have raced extensively and has lots of period upgrades to it (Bianchi crankset, Brooks B19...
