Thanks for this input! The head badge dating is another piece of the puzzle. According to that page the head badge is from the 1930's. The serial number with the letter H also suggests the 1930's. The image above from the catalog suggests it is from the early 1950's. Based on that image and the...
Great, thanks for that input, I feel better about this score now. I will carry on, clean it up and see what I find. I have a friend who is a skilled welder and can maybe look at the seat stays for me.
I have added photos of the top tube/seat tube lug. The underside of the lug at the top tube is separating. I have also added a photo of the BB shell and chain stay connection. I am hoping this is a repair and not a write off. I haven't had a lot of experience with frame repair and I am still...
I am definitely hoping this is not a write off. I'll have a better idea once I break it down and clean the frame. I'll post more photos once I have done that. Thanks for your input!
I just picked up this 1968 Raleigh Superbe for my next project. It appears to be completely original except maybe the tires. The frame has a number of rusted areas that appear to be deeper than the surface rust that I usually encounter. Also the lug between the top tube and the seat tube appears...
I am pretty much done with this for now. The information provided by everyone was most helpful and much appreciated! I managed to get the Perry hub back together with the help of the Schwinn manual and based on everyone's input kept the frame original. The rims that were on the bike were not...
Thank you very much for this information! This manual looks like a great resource. I did find the Perry hub in volume 1 with lubrication instructions.
Much appreciated!!
I am working on this 1941 CCM Rambler. The coaster brake hub is a Perry and Co. which I don't believe is original. Now that I have it apart I am not sure what to use for lubrication. Do I use high temperature grease or thin oil or a combination? There is an oil port on the hub. Any help would be...
Thanks for that! Your bike looks great and I wish I had the original pin striped blu rims.
3 for 3 so that's that. Thanks. I'll post some photos when I'm done.
Being relatively new to Vintage bike restoration, I am not sure what to do with this 1941 CCM Rambler. The frame, crank and handlebars are original but not much else. The frame is not showing much rust but only about 50 % of the original color remains. Most of the pin striping is also gone. I am...
Thank you! Yes, I really like the decals. The saddle certainly looks like a Brooks but it has a metal BSA badge on the back. I will have a look for the date underneath.
That is very helpful! Thank you! It looks like the decals are similar in the catalogue as well.
I am hoping someone can help me in determining the age of this BSA 3 Speed. It has a BSA 3 speed hub rather than a Sturmey Archer. The serial number is H51706. The chain ring and one remaining pedal have the BSA letters.
Any information would be much appreciated!
