Happy Independence Day ride, finding things to jump in the new neighborhood next door. This bike has me thinking I need to upgrade one of my pre-war bikes with BMX cranks!
It occurred to me last weekend my newest bike is 80 years old. My youngest child is getting more and more daring, so I decided it was time to return to my roots. Picked up a Subrosa BMX bike. This model has 22” wheels. It’s pure joy to ride. Everything becomes a jump!
Swapped the original bar out for these straight bars, giving me a more modern riding feel. Bonus, I can actually power up hIlls now! Something I could never do before on the ‘36 Shelby. I have to say though, I had images of snapped cranks in my head on a few tough climbs…
Two weeks ago, snow. Today, as Spring should be. First ride on the ‘42 Colson since Uncle Terrance passed. He was it’s second owner as a boy. Bought back then from the neighbor farm.
I've been visiting my wife’s family farm since we were in high school and never thought to look in the rafters of an outbuilding until 8/2020. I brought 5 bikes home that day, my favorite is this 1942 single bar Colson.
Serviced, tires, tubes, rim strips, grips, and some house paint removal...
With the risk of being reported to the Department of Redundancy Department, I think the various Departments all worked well together to create something fun from your pile of parts!
Mid School BMX bikes are coming of age and finding their value compared to Old School BMX, which is astronomical these days. Your Mosh is a nice and clean example, although lower end / entry level. The crank is one give away, as well as the 'Main tubes chrome moly' decal.
High end Mid School...
I swap some of my parts stash around on this $40 Monark frame a few times per year. No ID tag so not sure what year it is?
I’d like to find a tank, but I understand they are a different fitment year to year?
Today’s work included swapping to a prewar motorbike stem, non springer reproduction...
Holiday evening bike ride. First time on the ‘42 Colson since I swapped on the motorbike stem for a better look (original in safe keeping). I don’t think I’m ever going to resto this one.
Ever since @jlively970 posted a thread about his new build using a motorbike stem, I had to get myself one.
I love how it drops the look / stance of the bike from a design perspective. Found a few on that auction site, picked out one with the best patina, and two days later. Here it is.

I followed RL Osborn and Mike Buff when they were part of BMX Action magazine. They both had signature bikes throughout their Freestyle careers.
Like Bob Haro, I would consider them to be originators of the Freestyle subculture (at that time) of BMX.
I believe Fred Blood also rode for...
Barn Find mud flap.
This was on a pre-war Colson I found in a barn in ‘20. I assume it’s an accessory part?
It’s rough, as shown; maybe perfect for a rat ride or?
Asking $25 PayPal shipped. Maybe I’m way off?
Thank you for your interest!
Pre-War Dog leg crank with parts shown.
Sorry I don’t recall what bike these were on?
Chrome is worn, but in good survivor condition.
Arms measure 7”.
Asking $30 Paypal shipped.
Thank you for your interest!
I have 3 Pre-War Torrington handlebars all from the same barn find in ‘20.
Sorry I don’t know what this style is called?
All are in rough survivor condition and measure approximately 22”.
Not sure what to ask, so I’ll say $50
PayPal shipped for all 3, and please, let me know if I am...
I am late to the party on this one! What a stunning build / rescue! I have a similar 'look' 1936 Shelby.
I like the idea of old oily rags, I went the boiled linseed oil route.
The 2.35's and Motorbike stem give it such a cool, heavy and low look.
Killer bike!
I appreciate this thread as I have often wondered what to do with my stash of various old 26" tires.
I dont ride on them anymore, but could not bring myself to toss them out due to 'historical significance!'
Some are nearly twice as old as I am and still went down the road just fine.
