    Help dating this bike

The bottom bracket, or hanger cup as they were called at work, is the short tube that the crank and bearings would later be installed. The stamp would be very light. It was not struck with a hammer, it was placed in the jig and slapped with my hand as I would clamp the tubes to be brazed.

    Help dating this bike

Check the bottom bracket. I brazed a lot of those frames together in the Azusa plant in the late 70’s. I stamped the bottom bracket with a letter N The letter stamp was put there so if we screwed up a weld on the frame the inspector would know who to give the frame to to fix it.

    1950s-1960s Taurea rebuild help

Thanks! I put a lot of hours in sanding the bars from 220 - 2000 grit sandpaper as well as polishing, being very careful not to take to much material off. It saved me some money, but more importantly it gave me the control in how they would look after the chrome plating process. I found a...

    1950s-1960s Taurea rebuild help

Thanks for the kind compliments. I did purchase the Head badge up thread. The one for 12 euros. It looks much nicer than in the picture. These are pics of the handle bars I got back from the plater.

    1950s-1960s Taurea rebuild help

Thanks for the replies. Have a lot going on, so I can’t show very much in the way of progress. I did machine a bracket for the front derailleur. The way the frame was built it made it almost impossible to mount a front derailleur without a braze on mount. I did not want to change the frame that...

Yes, you are right about that. I like the one in the picture, it has a wider platform and radiused stays that mount on the sides of the front forks. Thanks.

What types of paint are you using?

From what I have read so far, silver is the primer that is needed for a metallic finish. Good luck with your paint job. Ron

    1950s-1960s Taurea rebuild help

I am making good progress on the frame. Unfortunately the plater, used to much current during the nickel plating process and damaged the frame! I was not very happy. The ground wire cut into the tubes like a grinder with a cutoff wheel in two places. There was excessive nickel buildup around the...

What types of paint are you using?

Your Iver Johnson is beautiful! You did a great job painting it! Going with spray cans, I am limited to the colors that are available from one companies product line. I’m concerned that switching brands to get the colors I need might not work out the way I want it to, and end up trashing my...

What types of paint are you using?

Thanks, to all for the advice. I understand that some paints won’t be compatible with others. I do plan on clear coating the frame and decals. I do own a compressor, and HVLP spray gun. I never had the chance to use it yet. I do plan on practicing before spraying the frame. If I go that route.

What types of paint are you using?

I’m getting ready to paint my wife’s bike frame as soon as I get it back from the plater. I am using 65 to 70 year old decals. I have read a few threads on painting bike frames here on the Cabe. I understand that enamel paints work best with old decals. I would like to use a paint that’s better...

Thanks for all the help everyone! I emailed [email protected] last week, and have not heard anything back yet. I should get the frame back from the sand blaster this week or next. The paint, decals and Chrome are in really bad shape. I’ve always have been one to keep the original paint job...

    1950s-1960s Taurea rebuild help

Thanks for the heads up on the head badge. I should get it in late May. I don’t know how I could have missed that on eBay. I put an alert if anything Taurea came up. 1950s-1960s Taurea rebuild help

I am rebuilding a 1960s Taurea road bike for my wife. The decals and chrome have suffered through the decades, as you can see in the photos. If anyone has photos to share so I can determine what the decals looked like, as well as decal placement, it would be most helpful. If anyone has had...
