I am HIGHLY MOTIVATED to purchase almost anything Davis Sewing, Huffman, or Huffy related, especially original literature or head badges. For a variety of reasons, I'm not in a position to purchase actual bicycles. And I don't have the mechanical talent or instincts to do restorations so...
Hey, I just saw this. Thanks! Never saw that ad before, nor have I met anyone else that had one. They were made in the Azusa plant exclusively I think. I got mine in 1972 or 1973. It was trashed at the end, but wish I hadn't gotten ride of it.
My grandfather HM Huffman, Jr. "Huffy" had a Moulton at his summer cottage in Northern Michigan, and this is what I recall him telling me about it in the mid 1980's.
My grandfather was always very forward thinking and loved innovation (e.g., the Huffy Convertible), and was really taken by the...
Hey, thanks! Sorry to be just replying, I moved over the past month and been kind of distracted. Fortunately, I've already got two of these, but I appreciate the heads up. Let me know if anything similar comes up!
A bit more color on the transition to Huffy.
My grandfather was Horace McKee Huffman, Jr. He hated the name "Horace," and his father, Horace McKee Huffman, Sr., was already known as Horace, friends and family knew hm as "Huff" or "Huffy." Even his mother called him "Huff." In about 1949 he...
Thanks for filling in the history. Huffman kept National as a brand when Huffman Manufacturing started making bikes again mid-30's. They had like five versions of the National badge from what I can tell.
Thanks, Carmine Red no less.
Unfortunately, I don't have room for bikes. And I don't think I've have the heart to strip the badge from where's it's been for over a century.
Kansan and I traded some images and he's got a National of Bay City Michigan badge. These things are virtually identical, and he wasn't aware of the sale to Davis sometime in the teens. That's why we CABE.
I can! A little.
As most of you know, after he wound down Davis Sewing Company, in 1924 my great-grandfather Horace McKee Huffman, Sr., founded Huffman Manufacturing. He started with the oil cans and other service station equipment which the company sold into the 1970's. At that point...
Crazy the forms advertising used to take.
If you're interested, I do have a funny smoking related story involving my great-grandfather, HMH, Sr., that my grandfather HMH, Jr., used to like to tell.
Back during the Depression, HMH, Sr., would often dictate correspondence to his secretary in his...
I can shed a little color on this bike and why it was produced.
The late 1980's and early 1990's was when competition from China really began to bite, and was the beginning of the end of Huffy Corp. I remember going to a shareholder's meeting in Dayton in 1987 (I usually didn't go to these...
