I'm thinking of giving this bike as a gift, but thought I should find out more about it first. The head badge says it is a Colson, but I cannot find anything like it on the inter tube. It seems to have been the subject of a frame repair. Any info on background, year of manufacture, value...
I was working on a Sturmey Archer drum brake front hub and discovered a series of numbers on the back of the brake cable arm. The number is 3840149. The hub itself has the numbers 10 79 stamped on it. My working theory is that the 79 is year of manufacture. Could the 10 be the month? Am I...
Obviously used Cyclo Standard derailleur. Disraeli Gears web site seems to indicate this may be from early 30's, but note the number 47 stamped on the arm - not sure what this signifies. I do not have the shift lever that goes with this.
This bottom bracket axle (cottered) currently resides, but I suspect is not native to, a Schwinn Continental from somewhere around 1944-46. Can anyone tell me what these markings signify? I'm particularly interested in the figure on the left. Thanks.

Not really sure what this is. Clearly a campagnolo bottom bracket set, but I've never seen one with the flanges on the axle. What is it? Any info appreciated. Thanks.
Back in the late 60's and early 70's I worked in a Schwinn shop. I collected what I believe is a complete set of Schwinn factory inspector cards The cards used to give the actual names of the inspectors before switching to just firs or second shift. Interesting memorabilia.
Good afternoon,
I'm trying to rebuild an old Schwinn Town and Country tandem from the late 1940's-early 50's (I think. Serial # T 840). The frame has issues, so I don't want to put a ton of money into this project. On the other hand, I'd like to get it to as close to original era parts as...
What have I got here? Serial number is K4112. I know the chainring/crankarm doesn't go with the bike (but how often have you seen an aluminum cottered crank arm?). The 3 speed hub is also not original to the bike.

I'm cleaning, not restoring, an old 1940 The Sterling bike. The rims are badly rusted. I don't want to have them rechromed. What to do? Paint them? Leave therm as they are? If so, how do I protect them from further rust?
Pat Burns
I recently acquired an old bike. The badge says "The Sterling" and indicates it was manufactured in Westfield, Mass. It also says "Built like a watch". The down tube has the model name "Special" painted on it.
What do I have here? How can I find out the year of manufacture? Are there...
