Update on my JC Higgins
I asked on another forum about what color paint to use on the fenders that I want to put on. Most people said to leave them brown. What are your thoughts?
Why do people abuse bikes like this one? Started the tear down today. Tried to save the grips, but they just crumbed on me. At least it came with 2 almost new tires.
It is probably someone‘s rat bike project. I pulled the wheels off and they are not original unless they used rims made in France. i will clean it up, paint it and ride it
Recently finished overhauling a 1978 Schwinn Twinn. Tried to ride it with the wife and we were just throwing each other’s balance off. One wanted to pedal and the other wanted to stop. It certainly wasn’t a pleasant experience. Is this normal and just have to grow into it?
Bloody hell. The paint stripper just wouldn‘t cut it. Actually had to wire brush the paint off. Cleaned the paint off the rims. Fixed the dropout. Straightened the forks. Painted the frame red. Just need to get some clear coat. Going to cut the fenders shorter and paint them.
I may decide to go...
I never realized how many oddball parts are on these bikes. I am missing a seatpost which is 20.7mm with 5/8 top. Finally found a place to order them that won’t cost me 2x the cost of the part to ship.
I want to replace the rubber on my 1978 Schwinn Twinn tandem. They are 26x1 3/8inch. I bought two new 26 inch tires and they are too small. What am I missing?
It was a basket case that I brought back. It had a rusty mess of cables that I stripped off. It is assembled exactly the way I got it except for the adjustment screw, I thought I needed it.
I bought new chains for this bike but only the back chain fits properly the synchro chain is different. Is this an oddball chain?
Other problem is the shifter bends as I am changing gears. Did I mess this up?
I hate to see bikes rusting in the garden. Found this Tandem and got it going again. Still needs more work and a few parts. I’ve wanted one of these for a couple of years now. Hopefully the wife is interested in riding it with me.

Thank you so much for posting this exploded view. I was having trouble with mine, clunking while pedaling. Took the hub apart and discovered an extra ball bearing that should not have been there. Now it runs smooth.
I was given this Schwinn Cruiser that was left out in the elements for many years. The wheels barely turned steering was stiff. I wanted to do a bike over so I decided to change it from a ladies to a men’s bike. this Bike is so comfortable. I love riding it.
