This little deluxe ray was calling out for help and a new home so I bought it home with me. I’m just wanting to know the year? Serial number is: JD58983. Its a nice little bike to ride down to the corner market on a hot day for a coke and snickers bar. Maybe the girls will notice as well. Thanks.
Hello Myron, I need a couple of pairs of them. Heres a couple of pitchers from my 1919 Harley Davidson catalog. Wow, those things were expensive 104 years ago - 50 cents. lol Sorry for the sideways picture.
For all you antique bicycle experts…..just wondering what year this Dayton Davis Yale is? My very untrained guess is 1919-1921. The serial number is 690281. Thank you kindly.
Probably my last Mecum auction. Paid $100 just to be able to bid on the internet. Paid $700 dollar "Buyer Fee." Paid $294 for "Taxes." Paid $135 dollars for "Credit Card Fee," and $605 dollars for shipping. $1,834 dollars just in fees alone. A whole lot of people are getting rich, and it aint me!!
Need a fat wallet or a big checkbook for Mecum auctions.....fees, fees, and more fees (like Copake). And a 8 hour drive to Iowa and back to transport the goodies. I like the Dayton Davis Yale but my paltry little bid will probably last a millisecond or less till the high rollers jump in.
Kool... My wife's family lives near SM Seaside Mall in Cebu and we go there often when visiting. I have also sent several bikes over there to her family members. Riding a bike in traffic there is dangerous lol, and also strenuous up them mountain tops. Going back again this winter hopefully.
I was riding TOSRV - a famous century ride done yearly from Columbus to Portsmouth and back - 200 miles in 2 days. We saw an old guy - 60's or 70's riding a single speed wood frame vintage bike. Talked with some officials and they said he does the whole thing, and takes about 12-13 hours each...
Blue……guess I’m overreacting lol haha. But I’m also red down the political aisle. Colors and politics aside, it is a very nice 60’s Huffy Galaxie bike. Gotta get into the light box and see if I can get the headlights working. Ride on.
Saw this little Huffy gem at a garage sale and just couldn’t walk away from it for only $40 dollars. Unfortunately I do not have children to give it to to ride, nor is there any kids in the neighborhood. I like the Huffy brand (since I’m from Dayton), but we true Buckeyes are not fond of the...
The guy said $25 but I bet he'll take $18-$20. At the moment he had only smaller sizes, not my 3X but said he was going to contact the printer to get more in soon. I asked him about doing the HD chainring (one of my other bikes) and he said bring him in a picture. He told me mostly "Goth Girls"...
Might be my wild imagination, or onset of dementia, but I thought at one time I saw on here someone looking for bicycle chainring replica tee shirts?? I know I’m old and senile but swear I saw the ad Awhile back. Anywho, i was in a antique store today near Dayton, Ohio and saw these DAYTON...
I love Dayton, Ohio! My wife and I were sitting in a Jamaica airport looking out the window waiting for our flight. I told her I see 8 things from where I sit invented in Dayton (1,500 miles away). Looking out the window I saw an airplane (1903), and a car (electric starter 1911). In the waiting...
Saw this 1920 Harley Davidson on Facebook Marketplace from East Moline, Illinois for $5,500 For those that may be interested. A little rough, but its 102 years old. It’ll clean up nice.
Found this interesting picture believed to be from 1893? It shows Wilbur & Orville Wright’s younger sister Katherine Wright with her friends (female) and their women’s bicycles. I can’t tell and see if any of the bicycles are Wright Brothers Van Cleve’s
or St Clair’s?? I believe that...
Not trying to be a historian here….. the Van Cleves were ancestors of the Wright Brothers and were on the boat with the 12 original settlers of the “Thompson Party” from Cincinnati to this new frontier - Dayton (1796). It’s written that Catherine (Benham) Van Cleve was “the first white woman to...
Yes, top line says “VAN CLEVE.” The second line under the Newcom‘s Tavern picture (one of the first business structures established in Dayton 1796) says “WRIGHT CYCLE CO.” The bottom line says “DAYTON, O.”
I don't know who sat on that bike last or how that big hole occurred in the middle of the seat? lol Maybe Orville and Wilbur's sister Katherine Wright rode it last? The Air Force Museum (great walking tour) is at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Good thing the Wright Brothers were thinking...
Only Wright Brothers female bicycle known? Its a Van Cleve at the Air Force Museum (Dayton, Ohio). Sorry, but I failed my photography class in high school lol.
Just an observation and question..... If these athletes are some of the most fit and healthy athletes in the world, why do I see them walking around drinking little cans of Coca-Cola, or Faygo orange which in America we consider some of the most unhealthy drinks - soda pop??? Is it for the...
Saw this nice old Campus Green Schwinn Hollywood at an Estate Sale today in Kettering, Ohio. There was a $95 price tag on it, and I know he would have taken less. Nice bike! I wish the wife would have taken more and better pitchers, sorry.
I stumbled across this tricycle that looks old. Seat is gone and wood handlebar is most likely not original. Any of you experts care to provide any information so I know what it is…..year
, type, make, value etc… thanks!
Nope not for me. I might be interested in a Coppertone 5 speed Fastback like I had as a kid, or a early 60’s Jaguar (like the way they look and ride). I just put it out there in case someone here in the Tampa Bay area might be interested.
Saw this violet Schwinn Stingray in a antique/consignment shop today in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Owner has a $400 dollar price tag on it. Looks pretty original but I’m not a “Schwinn Guy.” Is it a violet 1966?
Did you’s see this Military bike for sale on Craigslist (St. Petersburg area)? 1940’s Dayton Huffman WWII Army bicycle with gobs of olive green military paint on it??
In June auction I was lucky enough to win a bike. We drove to Copake, NY from Ohio to pick it up - nice road trip but long drive. Hoping to buy some stuff/bikes in November if the prices don't get way too jacked up. I ain't doing that drive again this time so lookin to find some delivery.
I gotta go to the eye doctor.....not trying to bust your chops but, did all the pictures appear dark and with a bluish tint or is it just me and my 90 year old eyes?! lol
I delivered the Journal Herald in the mornings and the Dayton Daily News in the afternoons (and Sunday mornings) back in the 1970's. Good times. Nice 6 "MONTH" patch. The 6 year patch was different - white & green or white and blue.
Nice old ride! I’m curious about the Western Toy Company (Chicago, Illinois), and the “Rival” brand. I can’t seem to find much info on it. The only mention I’ve seen is in Donald Adams book “Collecting and Restoring Antique Bicycles. I recently purchased what they said was a Rival ordinary...
Nice!!! I wouldn't mind adding this one to my collection. Would love to see it at Memory Lane Bike Swap in September along with the "Winner" pedal car I believe you are selling also. I need to see these gems up close and personal.
Yes, I agree 100% - put it on the local news broadcast, and also offer a reward if you can. These are VERY unique items, and with the high dollar value, the thieves know they are looking at a felony theft or burglary charge if caught.
Greetings, I’m wanting to find a set of Davis Sewing Machine Ideal pedals for my 1921 Dayton Davis Sewing Machine Roadster. The rubber pedal blocks are probably roached by now after 100 years. I’ll pay good money. Also could use a 4 edge drop stand for the same bike. Thanks!
The thieves know they are hot, valuable, wanted items in a community that is small and everyone knows and looks after each other. Six bikes take up a lot of room to store and keep around. They know now they will be hard to sell. They’ll probably dump them in a river or lake somewhere close just...
I saw lots of pictures of the high wheel (ordinary) bikes that were there, but haven't seen pics of the many pre 1932 “safety” bikes that were there. Would love to see some, post em please.
My mind’s exploding from trying to figure out how the bikes ended up in those positions when you consider most trees grow vertical and it doesn’t appear that either bike has a kickstand or drop stand on them. Were they laying down or propped up against a barn or tractor etc…?? Something so silly...
