After driving 1300 miles back to my homeland (after visiting socal), and a couple days of rest, I am back at it. More shorter rides, but ridden more aggressively.
As long as I ride most days I'll get the miles going. Great weather!
Thanks to my new friends tripple3 & cyclingday!
It was a pleasure riding with you guys and bs'ing the day away.
Mark, killer one speed pedaling power and thanks Marty for your well rounded knowledge.
Great jawing with fearless also. Pass the word.
The lunch was excellent. Ahhh... the beach...
Knocking out rides on my Vette. It rolls real nice. I'll be in socal with it in the Oceanside area the end of May for a week.
Hope to catch up with someone for a ride...
Close! NCW (North Central Washington) ie Wenatchee in my case.
Same 'ole Columbia River ride for me today, not boring at all, but my pics all look the same...
I use the Map My Ride app, so I can log my fitness. My rides are 10-20 miles now on my Schwinn.
My goal is to up my average mph each...
Much as the repetitive coast pictures, I have repetitive Columbia River pics. Its our neighborhoods.
I can do laps in various configurations, usually to get a tailwind on the last part of the ride. :D
Got over a hundred miles on my fresh rebuilt Vette.
Good riding is everywhere!
Love the...
Booking around on my '57 Vette. A great spring in between windstorms. Around 50-55 degrees. Chilly but I pedal into a warm sweat.
My 42/20 gearing is sweet on the SA 3 spd hub - maybe a little too easy to top out in 3rd. I may bump up to a 19t in the rear shortly as my leg strength comes up...
Pedaled my loop today. Enjoying being out and about after being sick for almost two months this winter oof.
Got my first shot yesterday too! We are ready to co-mingle! LOL Zippity Doo...
It takes three days, for my brand new layback post to bend (on my second now) on my Corvette. I weigh 160 pounds, so its not because I'm a fatazz. A 13/16" post doesn't hold up. I've just been riding smooth paths as my pictures show.
So today I went to 'fill' my seatpost. I ran into a fat...
Beautiful bike Schwinny. You mentioned weight... you ride in the rain? Cross wet gutters much?
I say save the weight of the fenders. It will look classic with fenders... it will look fast without. It looks fast now.
The sparkle grips fit the bike... maybe dark grey (anthracite?) if you want to...
My Sturmey Archer cable and actuation chain finally came. Bike looks good, powdercoat so so.
I will be out pedaling tomorrow yay. I hope the side pulls are not too weak.
So close!
I let my local builder put my bike back together. Mucho powdercoat overspray on threaded areas. I don't have the taps to chase that stuff.
Waiting for a new SA 3spd cable & fitting for the hub. Got one of my two dual pivot brakes to go on in the weeks ahead - excited about that!
I have...
Nice SKPC! My Amp was rode hard, the PNW is wet & muddy. Came in 2nd in a Mtn bike race on it years ago lol. I maintaned it and its still together. Brilliant bike of the day. I hear you on the fake horst link on the seat stays lol - don't know if that cured chatter or not...
I will have to pick...
Decals are on. I suspect their locations have wandered a bit.
I had problems with the top tube decals. Very delicate to say the least (not at all like my radio control decals).
I gently wiped the moisture out of the decals and they tore. I did slide them back together.
The next morning they...
In reply to ozzie, I broke out and rode my Shogun Team Issue Prarrie Breakers today. Both in riding condition, although the camo one has been pilfered quite a bit of the good parts it once had (thanks to the ex wife lol).
The red/white/black '88 is virtually mint. Its not my original one as I...
Right on ozzie. I have two Shoguns in the basement (owned three in total). Both bought new by me. Both Team Issue Prairie Breakers. An '88 and a 91-ish (can't remember). Shogun marketed for a while, the disappeared. GT helped kill them IMO (with the triple triangle thing).
I had the Tioga Farmer...
Getting closer to a 2021 1957 Corvette! Not a 10/10 powdercoat, but miles better than the rusted frame look.
The patina will be new! ...Decals to come.
The 1964 Cadillac is one of the best years ever. Classy, no gigantic fins... timeless. My grandparents had a 4 door '64 from new as I was a kid.
Old school luxury!
Here is the state of my '57 Schwinn Corvette. Getting powdercoated this week. Building in the bmx cruiser klunker style.
My bike...
My frame is ready for powdercoat. I bring the parts in next week. Should have a fairly quick turn around I hope.
Been sick and hardly have enough breath to pedal, but my bike may be ready as quick as I am.
The old 'Vette has come a long way in several months.
I won't do a build thread on my Three Bar as its a new bike, but here are many of the parts going on it...
Waiting for wheels to be built, headset bearings & bottom bracket come in. Not everything is in stock.
...I'll post a completed bike in time.
But first comes my 57 Vette!
Right on Gents & thanks. JTT is built to order and I was on a relatively quick waiting list (one month apprx).
Johnny has been a good business man IME.
We have similar tastes ozzie - I have drums & 3 spd going on my bike too. Give me some time and I'll get er done lol.
I did not get bars with...
I have been away for quite some time on my bike project. Going through C, plus the associated treatment and add in pneumonia at the same time, argh. Its good to be getting back in action.
My bike is stripped and at the sandblaster. Then using a different powdercoater for the PC. My bike may be...
Thanks ozzie.
Interesting thought ozzie. I will mull that over. I two finger brake on everything from bicycles to motorcycles.
Even if it is a full length lever I may never use three fingers.
The reason I ended up with these levers is I wanted all silver - lever and mount. They are hard to find...
Personalizing my bike a bit. Pretty much in its road going fashion now. Or neighborhood hooligan fashion.
Ames grips. A fine copy of the great tacky Ourys. Grew up with them. 2nd lay back post slid in - lets see how long this one lasts...
Tool bag... Tube, co2's cartridges (16 gram), tyre levers...
Oh the possibilities! Great build coming up IMO sworley. I am doing similar.
For me, a stripped down 26" cantilever bike is the Sting Ray for us aging thrashers.
Be glad to see what you do.
I still have my bought new '93 Mongoose Amplifier. Bought it as a frameset. Rode it for years. Yup pretty flexy, but at 24.5 pounds I learned smooth riding and sprints. Fast bike. Don't stand and stomp, the front & rear wheels will be out of parallel lol. Sit & spin...
The Horst link is timeless...
I received my Helix & Crupi frame savers/chain tensioner. The Helix is available and classic in its design - simple.
Cleaner than a big washer for frame protection...
One of these will be going on my JTT bike.
Just an fyi for a nice detail part.
Interesting GTs. I like it. My opinion is on an angled back seat tube, with a long extended seat post it is just asking to bend. Cantilevered. Especially in the spindly 13/16" diameter. Even more so on a lay back post.
I fit close to proper leg extension on bicycles, not the slammed low seat...
My bike is finally ready for here. '57 Corvette minus the glass. Fresh wheels (back to 26" from 700c), '57 SA 3 spd hub, Mailard high flange front hub.
More progress today. As in about finished. I can swap out a couple of parts anytime (tires, bars, seatpost, chain guard, gearing), but this is it. Final grips are not yet on.
Simple. Underdone in my mind, but I wanted a large Sting-Ray like bike, yet with gears, for jammin it like in my old...
Finally!
My 26" wheels are on. Now the bike has the proper balance. 700c is just wrong on a cantilever frame IMO.
New chain & 20t rear sprocket (from 18t).
Working on bolting up longer reach brakes & cables. Got two replacement seatposts, one straight & one laid back.
I went lay back post first...
Ok, I ordered the Crupi chain tensioner/dropout saver and the Helix dropout saver. Helix site looks sketchy but I ordered off of it.
I'll post up when I receive...
Dropout savers look to be a nice piece for bmx or klunker bikes. What I have googled up on them all seems to be 5 year old info.
I have run into Crupi chain tensioner/dropout savers and the HelixBMX brand (?) dropout savers.
Anything else out there? Something thats gone away? Is Helix legit...
Right on @birdzgarage. I, like you, like all bikes.
Many of these old bikes are super cool. But so is a Horst link Mtn bike. Or a Lefty fork bike. Or a skip tooth klunker. Or a Paramount.
All good in my book. Two klunkers coming up in my future, although not much old on them.
Cheers
