I did some searching and have not found my answer. I have a friend that picked up an all chrome Spaceliner and wants to put a smaller front chain ring on. My question is are the front chainrings standard cruiser types?
Thanks for any help!
I copied this from an older post of mine , love these hubs !!
"I've rebuilt a few and used Phil Wood grease on everything but the brake shoes ( at first a little too much and it leaks out while riding , also was a little hard to turn so I simply partially disassembled and removed the excess...
I have a speed Bendix 2sp auto that ive rebuilt and this one pin on the planet gear will not stay in. I don't know if it falls out during disassembly but I'm wondering if there is some method for getting it to be tight again?
I'm looking for a Bendix 2 Sp auto drilled for 12g spokes, Yellow or Red band. Hub only or whatever I can find. I have a build going with rims and spokes already sourced. Would preffer not to drill what I have. Thanks for any help, Dean
Id love to see a thread with some of these with a little background ! I recently dove into the RV world and did about a year of research on what I wanted...nothing to do with restored vintage RVs but I can really appreciate a cool old RV !
Thanks for all the info! I purchased both for $200, just wanted my first AS original springer forks to add to my Beach Rat rods........ I fdont feel too bad about not restoring as is !
Marketplace find, Nice s2 rims / "Uniroyal Nobby" tires / AS Sprigner forks Step through serial # P64436 ( 1955 ?) His # M319146 ( 1963?) Also wondering how to tell the diff between the middle wieght and heavy weight frames. Thanks for any help !!
Update, restored this saddle with some 1/2" padding, will prolly add more as there is room for it. I soaked the pan in Evaporust then wire brushed it and painted it black ( like it was originally on this 1967 Violet Hollywood ).
The top bolt just screws off and tightens down but the seat post is still somewhat loose. It will twist side to side and pull out . I can twist the bottom part and the threads twist with it. Thanks for any help
Thanks for the reply WW4P, I'm intrigued by the whole bike. Seat looks kinda cool, and frame looks solid / old. Ive done some initial googling but not coming up with much.
Update, I assembled the rear wheel and touched up a little paint. I think after a little use and road wear they will look perfect ! The spoke holes show a little chipping but over all I love these and cant wait to put them on a cruiser build and rip down the road!!!!
My first restore ever was an easy one , a 1959 Blue Hollywood I picked up locally for $50. I basically just disassembled/ greased/ reassembled . My wife loves it. It came with what I assume is an original basket with a quick release type rack. After digging around I found the basket and rack in...
Update:
I finally got around to attempting to paint the black lines using the stencils I purchased from ebay with so so results. The second wheel came out much better than the first probably from just learning to use the stencil better. In fact the stencils would probably work great if I...
I shot this vid so I'll add it here,It shows the gears shifting correctly but its still does not work in the shell. Edit -Ive reloaded this vid here and it wont work on my screen, but the youtube page works.
So when you say bur on the "threads" do you mean a bur on the inner grooves the Indexing spring paws ( upper ) ride on on the High Speed clutch?
J-dub, I thought about just going with that ! But I still want to understand exactly whats happening here, plus I want to be sure the hub will perform...
I made some discoveries this morning but still have questions. I used the working Yellow Band on my "rider"( 68' Coppertone Typhoon ) for comparisons I'll call that YB#2 and the non working YB#1.
I put all of the parts from the YB#2 in the hub of YB#1 and everything worked good.
Next I put the...
Thanks for the reply RK !
Are you building the sub assemblies then installing them or are you trying to build everything in the shell?
Both
You said you replaced the retarder coupling, did you notice one window is higher then the other?
Yes
Its that way to match the spring AB23A. That coupler...
WW4P, did your defective clutch part still sit flush on the High speed drive ( part with the sprocket / Indexing spring ) when shifted into high?
I will definitely keep you'all posted! Nice looking blue band !!
I’ve always coated all parts with Phil Wood( and high temp on the brakes with no issues but see how too much grease could keep that indexing spring from rotating correctly. I’ve had this hub apart and put back together multiple times now trying to diagnose and most of the “extra” grease is gone...
Yes , I replaced AB-26 with an in tact replacement. I also assembled without the shell and rotated through hi/low and everything appeared to be working correctly. And assembled the ratchet feelings and sounds good.
I've rebuilt a few already. When I received this one it was barley turning and couldnt tell if it was shifting correctly but after the overhaul it is turning nice but just won't shift into high.
This one seems to have all parts in tact except when I opened it up I found 12 7/16" loose ball...
Can anyone tell me if the tank on this bike with a working horn was a Fleet tank or something else? Im going to paint the frame and tank / forks and want to at least know what colors are original to choose from. Its a 63' something! ....
thanks
