It’s a modern Shimano Nexus. I like having the high and low gear and not sure why, but the 1.0 ratio second gear seems slightly less efficient than the single speeds I usually ride with the same front and rear gearing.
Took the ‘60 Jaguar out for a long test ride after setting it up with a three speed hub. It worked well and I have a few rides coming up where it may come in handy!
Out this morning on the ‘60 Jaguar Mark IV. Rides pretty well with the ‘81 drivetrain but may still make some changes to the seat and bars.
Beautiful morning with just some light breezes and plenty of sunshine made for a great ride!
Long ride on my ‘68 Schwinn today.
Built this one up a couple of years ago with an ‘82 Sidewinder fork, SE bars, Shimano CB e-110 rear hub, HD wheels and spokes with a Brooks B67 saddle-it’s currently my favorite rider.
It also sports a well-worn badge given to me by @ian a few years back.
Great...
Ian was the first person that I traded parts with on the Cabe. I will miss our occasional pm’s, just checking in on each other and sharing updates on life. My deepest condolences to his family.
Agreed that Ian was certainly one of the good guys and will be missed. Godspeed, Ian.
Hi @koolbikes, I took the pics posted and the black bike belongs to my friend and neighbor. It’s fake and was likely a Spitfire but now sports the Klunker decal (and the wrong seat tube decal) on fresh powder coat. Not sure how the five speed fork got there. He’ll be bringing it by for a rear...
Rode the ‘68 Schwinn in the CicLAvia event today along with my nephew on the ‘56 Hornet. Huge turnout in Hollywood with thousands of riders, skaters, joggers and walkers.
Rode some miles on the Strand and through El Segundo Sunday morning on the ‘80 Cruiser.
The beach path was super crowded in spots. Great weather and the Super Bowl brought out the masses!
Got some miles in on the ‘56 Hornet this morning.
As others have pointed out, the pics are the beauty of this thread,
but the riders and their machines are the beasts!
Some pics from the day.
Great sweet potato pie at the 27th Street Bakery, beautiful rose garden at Exposition Park, the classic architecture of the Swim Stadium, the museums and so much more to see in this historically significant section of LA. I really enjoy the CycLAvia events as it gets you...
Rode the ‘68 Schwinn today at the South Los Angeles CycLAvia. The usual thousands of riders were out on a beautiful fall day. Ran into Rene @63caddy and his wife riding their classics, and a few other familiars faces as well. Rolled 28 miles today.
Took a 14 mile crosstown ride on the ‘80 Cruiser to the lumberyard and then switched bikes to the ‘68 for some time at the Inglewood Pumptrack.
It opened about eight weeks ago and is the first one built for and open to the public in LA county.
I’ve been here quite a few times in the last couple...
What a beautiful day to ride the South Bay Strand with some fellow CABErs - from the southernmost point in Torrance north past LAX and back to a great lunch at Captain Kidd’s in Redondo Beach.
Big thanks to @mrg @tripple3 @Jimmy V @Cory and @cyclingday for making the trip up my way. Awesome day...
Took the first ride on a ‘61 Jaguar that I built up recently to be part of the riding stable. I bought the frame, guard and fork only - no other original parts came with it. Went with 80’s HD S2’s and 46/18 gearing. Really rides nice with the higher pressure, low rolling resistance tires.
This brick memorial is the site of The Beach Boys childhood home in Hawthorne, Ca.
The house was demolished in the eighties to make way for the 105 freeway.
It certainly was a nice day for the CycLAvia ride. Huge turnout and after a few hours of riding and touring the entire route, I spotted Marty @cyclingday and Dave, so rode a few more miles with them before lunch. Really cool to ride the downtown streets without the vehicles. Great day in the...
Took a ride on the ‘68 Schwinn beyond SpaceEx, past the new Clippers Intuit Dome, then over to SoFi Stadium, home of the Rams. Really nice morning for a long ride!
Here are pics of Evel’s first Sky Cycle, taken in Las Vegas months after the famous ‘67 crash landing at Caesar’s. Not many pics of this bike on the internet that I could see, and I believe this to be towards the beginning of his Grand Canyon jump self promotions and Sky Cycles II and III that...
Rode the ‘81 Cruiser 5 with my wife, son and DIL in a City of Carson sponsored ride today.
Started out by riding through the Olympic Velodrome which was pretty cool to see.
After that, a nice 12 mile ride through the streets (was laid out and advertised to be a 9 mile ride, but turned out a...
Was out riding the ‘56 Hornet this weekend and was struck by the size of this.
Not a tree, but a very tall flower.
Looks like it came straight out of @cyclingday ’s tropical backyard oasis!
Dan has two different fonts of the block letter Schwinn - examples of both types below.
I found the thinner of the two to be closer to original, at least for the ‘78 and ‘79 Spitfires.
