Found New Departure Model W front axle cones and bearing cage

I have a New Departure front wheel and I need the axle, races, and bearing cages for it. I am not sure what size is correct but none of the random parts I have fit right. If someone has one lying around, I'd appreciate it. I would get this off of eBay but I am not sure what to get. Will this...

New Find 15 speed Trident road bike

I will have to get the surface rust off to read the front hub or rims. There is also a Cabe thread on a JC Penny bike that looks exactly like this one. I concluded it might be German because the generator light id s all in German. But now that I think of it, he may not even have got those...

New Find 15 speed Trident road bike

Got my car inspected on Maryland's eastern shore and the mechanic had a lot of bike wheels and BMX bikes lying around. Got to talking and he told me he had an old road bike someone had given him that he did not want. Of course I took it. It is not old or valuable but it is interesting. Check...

Evans Colson Commander. Is it a keeper?

Just got this (for free). Looks like a 1955. Frame and tank is in nice shape. Missing fenders, chain guard, tires and truss rods. Plus, I need a longer seat post to ride it. To complete it could get expensive pretty quick for a bike that would not be worth much. I don't do this to make...

Long quill seat post for Evans Colson

I just got an Evans Colson Commander. The seat post is the quill type and I need a longer post to ride it. Attached is a picture of the current, too short, seat post. Also attached is a picture of the Commander frame.

    1956 Corvette find on Craigslist

Listed on the Washington DC Craigslist for $200. Sold by a woman who was selling it for the original owner. Looks like the rider got a severe ding on the front rim early on and never rode it again. Found a tag under the seat from Persons. Interesting serial number, W12345. Doing some...

What bike did you work on today?

Picked this up over the summer. Cleaned and lubed everything when I got it except the rear hub, a TCW 3 speed with coaster brake. Decided the bike was a little sluggish, so tore down the hub to clean grease and oil. Studied up on you tube and the SA schematics on line first and all went well...

Nice attic find on Craigslist 1960 Jaguar

Bikes like this don’t come up very often and you got to reply within moments of it being posted. I don’t have any notifications set up, and mostly check no and then just to see what’s out there. I was just lucky

Nice attic find on Craigslist 1960 Jaguar

Great idea with the socket. I wished I asked before doing my own fix. The dust covers bend easy. I used a pliers to an acceptable result. Tire is put together. The breeze is selling for 200. There seems to be a lot of them in this area. It no longer posted so I wonder if it sold.

Nice attic find on Craigslist 1960 Jaguar

Happened to be looking at Craigslist in DC when this bike popped up. Seller was selling this 1960 Jaguar and a Breeze as a bundle. I asked for just the Jag, and he gave me an excellent price. He valued the Jag at only $100 more than the Breeze. This looks like it has almost never been...

Need help ID'ing a middleweight Shelby

Wow! Thanks for the shot of the catalog! I'd rather have the tank and truss rods than the nice paint. (In fact, like most of us, I like a little honest rust) How do you manage the quill seat post? I'm a little to tall for the post on the bike. And I'm the kind of guy that if I cant ride it...

Need help ID'ing a middleweight Shelby

A guy gave me this bike recently. Nothing special really. I'd like it a lot more if it came with the truss rods. BIggest problem, however, is that it uses a quill type seat post that is sort of short. I would need a longer seat post if I was going to ride it. I hate to modify it unless I...

Question on Schwinn bottom bracket cups

Well, I did get a Schwinn chain ring and bearings and cups. The cups fit fine although I haven't given the bike a proper shake down cruise since I was working on other parts and then it got cold.

    Murray serial number project.

I just went through all 41 pages of this thread and did not see a single Skymaster. The serial number is MOY 20X17 17211. I picked this (free) on craigslist. Not much on the bike is original, but the frame and tank. Tank is hard to read but says Murray. I’m guessing somewhere between 62...

Interesting find on Craigslist. Who can say no to free?

Picked this up for free on Craigslist. Murray Skymaster. No handlebars or pedals. I happened to have those from a girls bike I stripped down not long ago. Plan on rebuilding hubs, bottom bracket and headset but leaving most of the rust on the bike. I liked the seat I got off the girls bike...

Question on Schwinn bottom bracket cups

This bike is going to be a rider, so the Murray chainring is okay. The wheels are also mismatched and kind of a mess. It would take a lot more than it would be worth to get it original.

Question on Schwinn bottom bracket cups

I am fixing up what I believe is a 1948 BFG Schwinn. The bottom bracket was caked with grease. I usually take everything apart, clean and put it back together, but when I finally got down to the metal cups, I discovered that one of them is all torn up. When I measured the inside shell of the...

Push rod for shimano 3 speed internal hub

I went to the better shops when I took the hub apart because I needed a special “tool” to unscrew the cover. Only one shop had it and unscrewed the hub but said he had not seen a shimano 3 speed in a while. I didn’t think any shops would even know what it was, much less be able to put their...

Push rod for shimano 3 speed internal hub

Working on a bike on a boat dock is a bad idea. I did not see or hear it go in the drink, but I rebuilt the hub and this was to be the last part, and it is nowhere to be found. If I cannot find one, I guess I built me a one speed. This is the rod that goes in the axle and it’s spring loaded...
