This head badge was used on an imported British lightweight 3 speed bicycle made in Birmingham, England. It was made by Tube Investments/British Cycle Corporation that owned Norman, Hercules, and Phillips among others. They eventually bought out Raleigh around 1960.
This started out so promising and shipping becomes a killer. That tread looks so much better than what I’ve been looking at from Kenda for my Schwinn S6 rims. Are shipping prices up for the holidays perhaps?
Great finds. That "brown" Raleigh paint with a little dish soap and a little rubbing compound to remove the top layer of oxidation will be amazing in the sunlight.
One year only, 1961 Raleigh Sports and Superbe were available in green or black frame with those white darts. It would have come with normal North Road type bars.

I don't have any experience taking a Brampton hub apart, but I have taken apart two of the Hercules hubs, both B Type, and 1 functions just like my SA AW hubs and one, will not. OK, it does function, but it is certainly not as smooth as my SAs. Nothing appears rough or out of spec, but it just...
The way I understand it, these pretty much mirror the Hercules A Type and B Type hubs. As stated, A Type 9 would have been 1949 and B Type 3 would have been 1953. Similarly, you had the Hercumatic and Brampton 3 speed triggers.

Fantastic decals on that beauty! And the mint green pinstripes! And the RIN (Raleigh Industry Nottingham) chainwheel! Nice find! Much better than the later model Robin Hoods which were more budget oriented.
That headbadge and decals put it in the 50s and it would have been produced by BCC, the bicycle division under TI. If it was originally a 3 speed it would have had a Hercules B Type hub which was an SA clone. The headbadge looks pretty good. Enjoy the frame.
Yeah, I’ve never seen that emblem. Wonder if Fleetwing maybe had an imported 3 speed in the 50s? Of course it could have been and privately branded hardware store also.
As stated earlier, this guard came on some English made bicycles for the American market in the fifties. More specifically made by Hercules which was under the BCC (British Cycling Corporation owned by Tube Investments). Here are pics of the same guard on my Shelby Traveler with an add pic.
Sorry, it is a mid fifties. The hub had mud in the oil port and the original trigger shifter was toast. I rebuilt the hub and had a quadrant shifter laying around and my son insisted on using it instead of using a more modern trigger. Even though we zig-zagged the cable, I think it still...
