Most likely built by Ti in the old Norman factory where they were making export bikes with stock from all the companies consolidated. That is where the American style bikes that came into the US via dept. Stores were built.
(According to a senior poster on an English bike group that told me...
This thread is EXACTLY one year old, cool.
No, they are all gone.
Found they were another strange Schwinn size.
As you probably know. Mid size Schwinn bike.
Two have come through the shop in the past year.
So it looks like there are regionally conventional ways, aesthetic ways and personal need ways but no steadfast "this is the way."
Then there is the question of how much length on the sheathing, over the bars, under the bars, tight loops, big loops...
I remember a time when the cycling...
When I saw the price, read the description and then no shipping, I had an urge to launder my ascot collection.
With the name dropping and flowery used car salesman description, I'm tempted.
But what will he sell for next months rent?
This might do better on Poshmark...
I route them according to which side of the caliper the pull is on. Or for the rears, if there are cable stops, which side they are on. In loo of that I defer front to my left hand.
But primary consideration for me is to keep the cables off the paint and as out of the way as possible. I...
This is a 2013 Brooks Glenbrook Limited Edition Saddlebag.
It is in near perfect condition. Only the straps and buckles are slightly broken in. It still smells new, like the old Wilson's Leather shops in the Malls used to smell.
The Glenbrook started in the 50s and was made from fiber backed...
Good. Thanks. I was thinking it was late forties or so, but if they went thru the 50s I'll use this one for the 50s set. I've got a 30s long arm thumb shifter so now I'll just need a good 40s thumb or quadrant.
The long arm has a hairpin spring that isn't captured by the pawl pin. I've lost one...
I figured here is where I'd find a date / timeline on Sturmey Archer Shifters. I am putting together a couple alternate 3 speed wheelsets to swap on to different English bikes I have for when a 3 speed is needed. Such as the upcoming Lake Pepin 3 speed tour in May. I'm putting together three...
Yeah it can do damage.
I might also recommend practicing on a couple things first. I forget that I've ruined a few things learning everything I know about stuff.
Cars
Bikes
Tools
Relationships... Etc....
👍😄
It works on any kind of metal.
When I was a kid I collected beer cans and that was an approved way to remove small dents, or even to re- shape a crunched one.
The water only expands a relatively small amount so larger dents take a couple cycles..
You can also over do it and split something with...
A tip on removing any dents from a metal air pump cylinder.... If you cork the ends, it can be filled with water and put in the freezer. The dents, and even creases will come out just as they went in. Any extra expansion of the water will just push a cork out of one end.
I've used the frozen...
I've recently been conversing on eBay with a seller and it seems crazy, kina like this but a little different. His eBay ID is one thing but it is a different ID when messaging with him. He also talks/writes like a newbie money grubber with little bike knowledge yet that's all he's selling.
GOOD...
A lot replaced on it but considering the chain wheel and bonderized decal, late 50s to about 63' The Komet hub does not belong nor the American McCauley chain guard.
OG Hercules frames were used until the switch to Nottingham. They had tens of thousands in storage. Yours is a Hercules frame...
Last time for these. I've got a bunch of stuff to donate going to the co-op and if nobody wants these within a week or so, these will go also.
Velo Orange Enterprise Rims 36h, very little if any wear
Compass / Rene Herse 28x700 folding tires w/tubes. Sidewalls could use cleaned but great...
Very nice.
I have a couple old English bikes and have done extensive research on them. I've found that the English bike industry had a very interesting evolution that affected the entire worlds bicycle evolution and production.
The V-CC in England has a massive library being updated monthly...
Now that I put on my reading glasses....
Yeah, also with chrome fenders, should be a deluxe on the guard. Seat tube decals. Dropouts are too clean...
Funny how the pics show better than the once over. I really have to wear my reading glasses.
I see other things now too.
Damn.
Ok.
Project...
I can just say the chips on the frame show brown primer and the og chrome is barely speckled.
I looked real close at the guard... But I'll take another look.
They'll part it out in a week.
It does need a Schwinn gear decal doesn't it...
🤔
Nope, not a repaint.
That guard is a silk screen. The parts he replaced were because they all got scuffed in a wipeout. He got the seat and tires from us last month.
Have I mentioned that I love to volunteer at the co-op? If your here much, you've heard it.
All kinds of cool bikes are donated. Old, late model, road, vintage... etc.
Case in point.
This 63 American 2 speed came in yesterday.
The guy replaced the handlebars, grips, pedals, seat and tires to try...
Always check the date of the post in the middle left under the posters name in the left corner. This thread is 2 years old.
You can tap on their name and a text box will appear with an option to send them a private message (pm).
Cool bikes huh?
👍
Garbage pedals with shiny end caps. The side plates have shiny rust crust. 🤮
I've run across at least ten pair of those at the coop in 9.0 condition (which includes having tread on the rubbers) in the past few years and have been happy to sell them here for under a hunny. Not even really so...
Ok, zombie thread update....😄
That bike came in as a frame attached to a tricycle rear end. It was almost scrapped till I noticed it was a sting frame. The wheels were there but it had an extra and stingray type handlebars.
As pictured in the first post is how I put it back together as a bike...

Great old bike.

and
Phillips didn't sell entire bikes until after WW2. Before then they sold bike parts to the industry and the public (including frames). Being the main...
This is a Sturmey Archer Headlamp from the 1950s. Single bulb design, two position switch.
Single bulb with 2 position switch means it originally was attached to a dynamo AND battery box. The switch would switch between the two sources of power.
3-1/4" Diameter lens
Comes with the female...
Hmm.
No, I didn't run across anything like that.
I did drop down the Reynolds hole looking for types and reasonings. They were primarily aircraft frame tubing and stopped bicycle 531 tubing first used in 36' from 39' to 45' though.
Finally, maybe a bit early for this thread, here are copies of a brochure from the first Armstrong bicycle company.
As I remember, it went under before 1910. The second company was started in 1922 and supposedly has no relation to the first. As many did back then, they also made other things...
According to Graces Guide and the V-CC Library, There were three separate Armstrong companies involved in Bicycles and parts. All three are from different time frames and none seem to have any relation to one another.
Here are some copies of paperwork concerning the Armstrong Gear Company. A...
I'm always looking for info on my old Armstrong.
The V-CC Library has a bit, yet nothing pertaining to my bike. The earliest they have is the 36' catalog and mine is a bit earlier.
I recently found a pile of Armstrong ephemera on eBay UK and snapped it up. Thought I'd post it here cuz I know...
"under load" are you sitting or off the seat?
I had this kind of noise in a bike a year or two back and it was the seat. Sounded like it was coming from the BB and I disassembled everything and even changed a few things. The shifting weight back and forth of my butt had worn down a spring mount...
Very cool.
We have an Orbea dealer here in Des Moines. Been open about a year now. They're trying a twist on a bike shop, having a coffee shop up front. Name is "spoke and chain."
Talk about spendy bikes. I hope they can make a go of it but I'm not sure there is a huge market for very expensive...
