Thank you for that information. I was wondering why it never sold. What is strange is that the 1976-78 Superiors were quality bikes. Plus the blue color is very nice. But I guess you have to have good knowledgeable salespeople.
John.
Wow, Even though these bikes are 60 years old I have seen several in excellent shape. Either the owners restored them or kept them in very good condition.
Wow nice Superior in such very nice shape. I see you changed the crank, and it seems you modified the rear Derailleur. Purple is nice color. My favorite color for the Superior was Radiant gold .
John.
It is so nice to see members with lightweight bikes. If it is alright, could you post pictures of the Paramount, Superior, and the Super sport when you have time.
John.
Back in the early 1960's my father took me to buy a new bike. When we got to the Schwinn store, and I saw the 10 speed bikes especially the Superior I wanted it. But my father said he would buy me a English 3 speed racer. I did not want it, so we left. When you are a kid, you do not realize the...
I like the Schwinn Paramount's especially the P13-9 models. I realize there are many other great models from Europe, and Japan, but growing up I mostly saw the Schwinn bikes. The 1962-63 Superiors were real nice too. I hope some members post pictures of these bikes. My first kike was Schwinn 3...
What puzzles me is that only about 1 % of the time is there discussions on these beautiful symmetrical bikes. Most discussions are about these old bikes that I have never heard of. Usually from the 1930's to the 1960's. It is if a lot of members are in their 80's and 90's. I wish there were more...
I owned a silver 1974 Schwinn Paramount P-13-9 about 6 years ago I sold it because it was like new and I was afraid of taking it out on New Jersey roads and having a stone hit the paint and ruin the finish. I know that is silly but it was in such nice shape. The original owner took off the...
Alan.
That is good advice, I did not even think of that. Especially if they at the bike store cannot rethread the pedals. I am sure your 1973 Paramount P-13-9 is still in very nice condition. My 74 is opaque blue. What color is yours.
John.
There is nothing wrong with my Campy crank and crank arms, it is the first two threads on each of the Campy pedals I bought after buying my 1974 Schwinn Paramount P-13-9 bike. The bike has the original pedals on it, and they are OK. I just wanted to put these nicer ones on, but discovered the...
I did some research. and checked on Campy parts and found the axles and spindles (a pair) for sale on E-Bay 9/16 inch-20 threads per inch. But I also called a bike shop and they said they can rethread the pedals. Both pedals have only the first two threads stripped a little. Can a bike shop...
A while back I bought a pair of Campagnolo pedals. They were on E-Bay and looked almost new. I bought them and was going to put them on my !974 Schwinn Paramount P-13-9 bike, the ones on the bike were nice but these were nicer. But when I started to screw then on the first two turns were nice...
Nice bike, but a cannot get used to seeing lightweight bikes with up right handlebars. The drop handlebars look so much better. Although they are a lot less comfortable when riding. I guess you cannot win.
Yes I think you are right. My 1962 Continental originally came with a French saddle Ideal #43. It was in bad shape when I bought the bike,so I put an NOS Brooks B-17 on it. The rest of the bike in in very nice shape. It is hard to believe it is 60 years old.
It has so many of the original parts missing. The crank, the rear Derailleur, the handlebars, the saddle (I think it should be a Brooks B-15), and I am not sure about the hubs. The crank should be triple crank. If it were mine, I would restore it back to original.
I can relate to you. For years I posted many things on Craigs List. I would say about 90 to 95 % of the time the buyer is just playing games. They would contact me and ask if item is still available, and I would say yes and then I would never hear from them again. Or they would ask for more...
Wow, thank you for that very detailed message. I probably will take to a bike shop. Both are close to me and one shop has already built up my 27-inch rims and tires. I do have the original 700 C Mavic rims with the original Campy Nuovo record high flange hubs. The original tubular tires were...
I bought a 1973 Schwinn Paramount P-13-9 several months ago. It is in very nice shape (must have not been ridden much) It was all original except for the 5 speed freewheel, it was Japanese. The original should be Regina 14-24 tooth cogs. I bought a new Regina chain which has 116 links, when I...
I bought 2 pairs of new Campagnolo pads fron the Neatherlands but still have not received them. But will try Clarks for the other two bikes.
Thanks John.
All three of my bikes have old rock-hard brake pads. The 1974 Schwinn Paramount has Campy pads and the 1962 Continental and 1978 Superior have pads for Weimann center pull brakes. My question is are the new pads softer, or semi hard when new. Can NOS Campy pads from years ago still be good, if...
I am not 100 % sure, but I think the one i had was different. Do you know if that picture of Mickey Mantle was repeated in the early 1960's. I thought it showed him with a baseball bat.
Thank you for that information, that is what I thought that they were 120mm. I was looking at this new set of rims with Campagnolo high flange hubs. I will have to ask seller if the rear hub is 120 mm and also if it is English thread, not French or Italian thread.
John.
Can 1970 Schwinn Paramounts P-13 bikes take rear Campagnolo hubs with either 120 mm width or 126 mm width or are the drop offs on the seat and chain stays different widths. The one on my bike is 120 mm and would a rear campy hub of 126 mm be too wide.
Thanks John.
As a kid growing up in the late 50's and early 60's (I will turn 72 on November 15th) I had a Mickey Mantle card probably in the early 1960's who knew to keep it in mint condition. If we only had a crystal ball.
I know this is very late responding, but the 5 speed freewheel came off very easily with the tool and me just holding the freewheel in my hand. I only hand tightened it when I first put the freewheel on the Campy hub.
John.
Blue coral autofom. I just applied it and used rag to pick up the residue from the tape. I am pleasantly surprised it worked. I thought it was going to be a lot of work.
John.
I took the second tape off, then I tried something I was not sure would work, but it did. I used Car wax, and it is removing the residue form the bar very well.
John.
Thanks to the two of you for responding. I did misquote the guy, he said Paint thinner not acetone. I will try both WD40 and paint thinner. And also 0000 steel wool. I have all of them already.
John.
I bought a Schwinn Paramount P-13-9 Bike recently. The blue color paint and the chrome are in very nice shape. It has some things to replace like Brooks Professional saddle and the rear Campagnolo Nuovo record derailleur is a little worn. I have NOS Brooks Pro saddle and NOS Campy deRailleur...
Thanks to both of you for responding. There are really no scratches, just some scuff marks, so maybe I will use mothers aluminum & magnesium polish which I already have.
John.
Does any member know how to polish the Campy cranks. this crank is in very nice condition, but has some tiny scuffs. I have seen on you-Tube videos these guys polish up these cranks beautifully, but they do not show how they do it. I used Simichrome polish and vigorously rubbed it in, but no...
The crank is from 1985 and it says English pedal threads. I only have the two piece crank and arms, not any of the bottom bracket parts. The bike would have English threads. So if I buy bottom bracket set with English threads i figure it should work.
John.
I have a very nice Campagnolo super record crank set. I know they usually went on high end bikes ( Like Paramounts with Reynolds 531 tubing.) But could they be used on a nice bike with Chrome moly tubing. Are the threads and measurements the same. What bottom bracket set would I need. Will Campy...
Lonestar.
That is very nice of you. Yes, please have him E-Mail me. My E-Mail is [email protected] That way I will know if it still for sale.
Thanks John.
