How old does it have to be to qualify as antique? 35 is pretty good for carbon fiber! Although there were a few earlier lugged carbon bikes, and a few concepts/one-offs, the 1987 Kestrel 4000 is (ATMO) the first modern construction mass-production carbon fiber bicycle.
The story behind this...
Honestly don't know much about this one. It came on a Silver King I bought a while ago but was not original. If anyone knows more about this model, feel free to add context. Just looking to clear out the garage as I am moving.
Does have the rear clamp but missing 1/2 of the front clamp. In...
I'm curious what the defining characteristic is with the '72 PX10 vs the P10 or PA10? Once the fancy Nervex lugs were dropped, they all look the same to me.
Thanks for the offer! I think I'd be looking for something a little different. I'm ok re-bonding the lugs but 24" is a bit too big and I'd want the correct fork.
Rarer version of the Yamaha Moto-bike. This is the European J61model that came originally with drum brakes. Features extra braze-ons for cable guides and a different color/graphics set than the standard orange and yellow American versions.
Comes as shown with original crank and bb. Happy to...
I know its a long-shot because they aren't exactly common... But I'd love to put my hands on an Exxon Graftek if anyone knows of one. I recently picked up a Teledyne Titan from the Sell-Trade forum and I thought an Exxon would make a cool partner.
In fact, I've got the first major alum. (Silver...
I picked this frame up on CL a few years ago but realized it had an ugly repair near the BB (see pic). Between that and some other cosmetic issues, I figured it would be a good opportunity to do a custom build to display, rather than try to restore it.
I used Bel Geddes' streamline aluminum...
I'm working on a drillium groupset and I'd love a 70s-early 80s frame to hang it on, preferably built by an American framebuilder. Masi California, Medici, Merz, Romic, Gordon, Eisentraut, Della Santa, etc, one of the real craftsmen.
Ideally 55cm, 53/54/56 considered depending on Geo. Anybody...
this thing is so sick! let me know if you are ever heading to the Bay area or want to ship. I don't head down south much but I'd take it off your hands for sure.
@detroitbike The parts manual lists 2 sizes but I get the impression one is significantly more common. I'd happily take one or two off your hands and just cross my fingers on length!
Looking for the non-drive side indicator pin for a Sturmey Archer 4spd hub. That is the male thread side. If someone has a junker hub for parts, I'd buy that too. Seems like these are significantly more rare than the 3spd parts!
I just picked up a '65 Moulton 4 Speed, the Huffy import. It is mostly there but I'm looking for a front rack. The original white/gray would be preferred.
Bike also has a few roachy parts I'd swap if given the chance. 4spd hub is missing indicator chain, saddle is rough, etc. If you have any...
Ruined? I think that is some amazing folk art! Reminds me some of what Rivendell has been doing adding extra tubes. Somebody could turn that into a very cool rider.
I have a couple offers but I'm always curious. We are both "on training wheels" so I don't think we can DM, but shoot me an email at [email protected] with what you got.
I've actually had great success with acetone to remove rattle can. I'm sure it is highly dependent on the quality of the original paint, but most factory paint is 2-stage while spray paint is single-stage so it comes off easier. I've also done it with paint thinner. It is much more gentle but...
I like stock builds just fine- especially if the original pain is in good enough shape that you can polish it and keep that combo of original patina with shiny chrome. My Firebold is just a frame and it got rattle-canned, so I knew right away it would be a custom build.
I think I'll do 650x48 tires- I like the look of tucking a larger diameter wheel in these old bikes. Other than that, probably Schwinn sweetheart sprocket because they are so pretty and there's no reason to keep it stock.
It wasn't that- it was on the monark repop fork website. I didn't find a newsboy but I have a Firebolt. It'll take 26x1.9 or 650x48 pretty easy, and that seems like enough to me. I'd still prefer a proper newsboy but I I feel like I should use this while I have it
thanks @Bike from the Dead, I just bought a monk fork and mocked it up. It looks pretty dang slick, I gotta say. Even found a photo of someone who did the same thing w/o fenders. I do wish i could tuck a bigger tire, but i think this will work out just fine.
Thanks @Bike Magnet, that's great to hear. I hadn't decided on fenders, but kinda wanted to leave it on the table. I'm actually planning on building this with the classic Monark springer because I thought the double leg design would match the double tube rack, so fork wouldn't be an issue. I...
I'm trying to track down a Newsboy Special with the integrated rack, seems like this was a short lived model. I've found a few Fire Bolts, which are closeup front, but this Newsboy came with balloon-tire clearance and the classic Columbia integrated kickstand. Condition is no issue, just the...
